Caught Up

Chapter 30

One of these days the sky's going to break

Everything will escape.

You and I were made for this.

I was made to taste you're kiss.

We were meant to never fall away.

"Brooke answer me! Where are you!" Lucas exclaimed.

But instead of hearing her voice. He was hit with silence.

The house was an empty shell. He took himself back downstairs.

To shower and change into clean clothes. He went into the kitchen

And only managed to take a few bites before feeling his stomach turn. He stared down at his shaking hands. His mind racing with thoughts. His mouth dry.

Lucas grabbed his cellphone and called Brooke. He called her until his feelings ached with no reply.

"God damn it!" Lucas yelled. Slamming his cellphone on the counter.

She wouldn't do this. Leave him. She loved him too much right?

Lucas was sure of that. Her love and loyalty to him. Never wavered.

He had years of evidence to prove that. Lucas cleaned up after himself and left the kitchen.

She had to of left something behind. When he soon made it upstairs

And stepped foot into the bedroom they once shared.

He felt his heart sink. At the sight of an evelope with his name on it.

Beside it. Brooke's wedding ring. He sat down on the bed.

He stared around slowly. She had changed nothing.

Snapshots of them in happier times on the walls.

Lucas took a deep breath and opened the envelope.

He unfolded the paper. Her perfume of lavender and fruit flavored scent filled his nose.

He could picture her seated. Writing this.

Dear Lucas,

Writing this letter to you. Is one of the hardest situations.

I've ever found myself in. For 6 months now. I've isolated myself from the people closest to me in an attempt to shield you and to prevent the outside world to judging and adding their thoughts to our marriage.

You asked me recently why i don't just leave Bridget with you.?

That answer is simple. I never know what verison of you. I'm waking up too on a daily basis.

It breaks my heart and terrifies me to see you self destruct like this.

Bridget deserves parents who will give her the world.

Love peace of mind. A stable place to grow up in.

I'm unsure if you can and are willing to do that.

Since according to you. You have no alcohol problem.

I'm doing what's right and needed. What you aren't capable of.

My terms are exactly this. You get sober. Agree to marriage counseling. And going to therapy. Otherwise this seperation will turn into a divorce.

And you will never see Bridget in this condition.

Brooke.

Lucas felt his hands crushing the paper. He carefully put it back into the envelope and left the room with it.

He went back downstairs. To see his mother quickly leaving the home. He walked over to end table. And saw his car keys and house keys.

Lucas stared at himself in the nearby mirror.

He bawled up his first and punched the mirror.

He buried his face in his hands and felt himself unraveling at every seam. His sobs filled the entryway.
