Hi TheMadGrowler here. New story idea I had. Probably just a "simple" story, but only time will tell if it stays simple. I was bored and decided to write and see where it goes. This is my first story, so please be kind to me in the comments. Feel free to tell me (politely) if you think I should change, elongate, or even shorten certain bits. I highly encourage you to comment, as it makes my writing better.
Theodore's eyes were wide as he stared at the parchment in his hand. He had written a letter to Professor McGonagall asking for an interview with regards to the position of Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher. As he had hoped, the reply from the headmistress was swift: "I regret that I cannot offer you any further information at this stage."
He had been so sure it would work out, but now he felt like tearing up the parchment and going back to the drawing board. It wasn't even that he didn't think he could do the job. Theodore knew how to deal with dangerous magical creatures. His uncle had trained him well during his childhood, but there was more than that. He'd grown up around wizards all his life. They were his family; they were who he was meant to be.
As if reading his thoughts, Theodore's father said, "You know your uncle wants you to succeed him as Headmaster. You have the talent to do both jobs – teach and rule."
"But not enough experience," Theodore muttered, running one hand down his face.
His father chuckled. "Experience is gained by doing, son. We live in a world where magic still exists and we need people like us to keep things under control. Your uncle will help you."
"What makes you say that?" Theodore asked suspiciously.
"Because he told me so himself."
At that moment, Theodore heard voices coming from inside the house. He saw his mother open the door to their kitchen and beckon him over.
"Come see what I've made for lunch," she called.
His stomach growled loudly as he followed her into the kitchen and sat on a stool next to the table. He watched his mother slice bread and butter a pan of sausages before placing them in front of him.
"Your Uncle Alric has agreed to give you an interview for the post," he said, lifting two sausage slices off the plate.
A smile spread across Theodore's lips. His mother smiled back and then reached out to touch his hair. She always did that when he was nervous or upset about something.
"Don't worry," she whispered, patting his cheek gently. "We're behind you."
"Thank you," Theodore murmured, taking another bite of his food. Then he looked up. "Can he really make time for me? When does he want it?"
"Well…" She hesitated.
"Tell him I'll meet with him tomorrow morning. After my last lesson with Professor Lupin."
"Yes, dear," she replied. "I'll tell him right away."
Professor Dumbledore stood atop a tall ladder, his hand poised above a large orb painted with the symbol of the Order of the Phoenix, ready to light it. Below him, Lord Voldemort's army stretched out far beyond the walls of Hogwarts castle.
They were preparing for battle.
This war had begun long before Harry Potter ever came to Hogwarts. In fact, it began long before wizarding kind itself. For nearly nine hundred years, powerful dark wizards had risen to power only to fall again, leaving devastation in their wake. Every generation, the innocent were caught up in the fighting between good and evil.
Harry didn't understand why his parents had died, or why he was destined to fight in this terrible war. All he knew was that he needed to do his part. He owed it to them, to everyone else who lost someone important because of the Death Eaters' brutality.
Lord Voldemort would never win. Not while Harry Potter lived.
So Harry stepped forward, his wand pointed towards the sky. He stopped for just a second, remembering his mother and father, and then he made the vow. One day, he would defeat Lord Voldemort and put an end to the war forever.
DONE. How was that? Like I said before, I just wrote and saw where it took me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me your thought on this in the comments.
Not sure when I will update, or even if I will just start another story if this one doesn't do too well. Bye for now!
