Amidst the disorder caused by the appearance of Quirks and the shift from a modern, technology-driven civilization to one dominated by superhuman abilities, an unusual phenomenon was occurring in Japan. After facing the aftermath of a destructive civil war and a nuclear apocalypse that annihilated out the previous post-modern, post-industrial global order, a cluster of neo-traditionalists aligned with the surviving samurai and noble clans to gain power over the Japanese government, thus, renewing the shogunate's feudal rule that was terminated by Meiji's restoration.
The Sosaki clan, a well-resourced and influential group of samurai in Japan who have links to the country's elite, promptly assumed the role of Shoguns while the House of Yamoto was been relegated to a symbolic role as leaders of the nation. The re-establishment of the shogunate brought back the societal strata and accompanying norms of that time, as well as the resurgence of the samurai class.
Despite the Shogunate's efforts to isolate Japan and focus on reconstruction and preservation of cultural identity, the government still succeeded in regaining control of the Sahlakin and Kuril Islands, Taiwan, and the Korean peninsula. These territories were then incorporated as provinces of the feudal state. To mollify the Korean and Taiwanese populace and forestall a popular uprising against Japan's control, the Korean People's Republic, founded by Lyuh Woon-hyung in 1945, and the Zheng dynasty-ruled Kingdom of Tungning in Taiwan were reinstated as local governing bodies. However, the true authority remained in the hands of Japan's governors in these areas. [1]
The Japanese undertook measures to eradicate KMT supporters and individuals with pro-Chinese affiliations from Taiwan.
The Japanese successfully regained control of their previous WWII protectorates, known as the Empire of Manchukou in Manchuria and the Mengjiang United Autonomous Government in a portion of Inner Mongolia. They accomplished this by expelling resurgent Chinese warlords who had occupied the regions. The Japanese also joined forces with the Manchus and Mongolians to assist in stabilizing and rebuilding those countries.
Having strengthened its military capabilities to tackle internal conflicts and external dangers, Japan promptly intervened in the tumultuous areas of the erstwhile Chinese territories, aiming to establish a stable regime that could maintain peace and prevent any further strife. The Chinese warlords, preoccupied with their internal conflicts, proved to be inadequate against the samurai and the Japanese Army, resulting in China succumbing to Japan's supremacy.
The government of East Turkestan was reinstated by the Japanese shogunate as a restored Ottoman Empire, and simultaneously, Tibet was freed from Chinese occupation and given back its independence under the theocracy of the llamas. China itself established a federation consisting of its main provinces led by the re-established Reorganized Government of China regime under the supervision of the Japanese, and the descendants of the House of Zhu, the former ruling family of the Ming dynasty, were reinstated as the imperial family of China under Japanese supervision.
Japan assisted local royalist and pro-democracy movements in restoring the governments of Myanmar's State of Burma and Vietnam's Empire of Dai Viet during their campaigns against Chinese warlords.
Following China and Indochina's submission to Japan's friendly governments and protectorates, Japan reverted to its traditional political and economic isolation from the rest of the world. Instead, the focus shifted to safeguarding Japan's territorial integrity and consolidating its control over the Sahlakin Islands, the Kurils, and Taiwan. However, this process brought forth several challenges. Despite the return of Japanese rule and administration to the Korean peninsula and Taiwan, some individuals in Korea and Taiwan still remembered the legacy of the DPRK, ROK, and the Nationalist Party of the Republic of China and were eager to reclaim it.
In Korea and Taiwan, there were movements that longed for the old regimes that were in power before Quirks emerged and Japan regained control of these regions. These movements, known as the Neo-Juche and Illmism Revival movements in Korea and the Revived National Revolutionary Army in Taiwan, caused constant trouble for the local governments. The neo-Juche rebels even managed to take over the entire city of Pyongyang for a brief period before being defeated by a joint effort from the Korean People's Army, People's Social Security Forces, and a few battalions of JSDF and samurai stationed nearby. [2]
Initially, the Japanese feudal government ignored the rebels and anti-Japanese movements in Taiwan and Korea, instead choosing to focus on remodeling and restructuring the political and social structure of the shogunate to better fit the superhuman society that had emerged as a result of the presence of Quirks. But when the Korean rebels made the tragic mistake of making a member of the Sosaki clan a victim of a terror bombing in Seoul, and the terror group-criminal gang that claimed to be the KMT got the wrong target during an attempted political assassination, the sleeping giant of Japanese law enforcement and domestic intelligence awoke with blazing fury, and the Korean and Taiwanese neo-Chinese Republican rebel groups and anti-Japanese movements were consumed like waste paper by its scalding flames, eventually fading into obscurity and political and social oblivion along with the Quirk supremacist Meta Liberation Army on the Japanese Home Islands thanks to the relentless efforts of the Japanese authorities.
The emerging system of Quirk classing, as well as the growing concept of Pro Heroes, was also remodeled, to help bridge the social gaps between the classes and also to prevent Quirkist movements from regaining popularity in Japan. The privilege of being a Hero became a title, that only those persons with a license from the Ability Registering Commission could possess, whether Quirkless or Quirked, and the samurai class was expanded to include those who had the uniform, demeanor, and acted in the role of heroes, but did not have the official license required to confirm their status. [3]
This move effectively stranged the Meta Liberation Army as well as other anti-government movements through the Japanese shogunate dead in their tracks, as the main support base for these groups was effectively cut off by this move. In the shadows, Hiashi Midoriya, the Quirk-stealing villain known by his alias All for One, still lurked as the de-facto leader of the Japanese criminal underworld, but with the Meta Liberation Army effectively neutered and the Hero system effectively a tool in the hands of the feudal government, which despite dismissing his existence as a mere myth was more effective at pursuing his proxies than the MLA and its Quirk supremacy would ever be, the white-haired man decided to quit the villain lifestyle and also end his career as a criminal overlord, and try his hand at being a normal civilian for once. [4]
The plan to abandon his criminal ways started off as a joke and a contingency plan, but after he had been ambushed by a specialized squad of SAT [Special Assault Team] designed specifically to deal with supervillains as well as a battalion of Special Operation Group [SFG] operatives sent to take him out after successfully killing his rival Nana Shimura, barely managing to escape, Hiashi decided that a change, of course, was definitely needed. After recovering from the grueling battle and healing his body with the help of his loyal servant, the mad scientist Dr. Kyudai Garaki, Hiashi left an altered corpse of one of his failed experiments that had been modified to look just like his criminal persona near one of his old hideouts and then moved away from the world of crime under his real appearance, quickly using his money from crime to settle down as a legitimate businessman and philanthropist.
It was during his time of consolidating his income that Hiashi met his life partner and perhaps his one true wife, the short, slightly plump but also stunningly beautiful Inko Shimura. Despite her connections to his by-now long-deceased rival, Hiashi quickly fell in love with the dark green-haired woman and worked extra hard to be as honest and dutiful as possible, so that his one true love would never have to bear the pain of learning about his dark past. The two were soon married in a beautiful ceremony in the Himonya Catholic Church located at the heart of Tokyo, with even the likes of All Might and Grand Torino attending to show their respect to the Shimura family.
Though Hiashi did notice the emaciated blonde man staring at both him [Hiashi] and his beautiful wife suspiciously when the name Midoriya was mentioned as if he was trying to remember something. Gods, he [Hiashi] hated his past as a criminal sometimes!
The honeymoon was a beautiful affair, Hiashi's remaining minions from his time as All for One protecting the couple from reprisal attacks from MLA remnants and Quirk supremacists looking to bring back the 'good old days' of uncontrolled Quirk usage.
As if the Gods themselves had decided to reward Hiashi for his abandonment of crime, the couple was blessed with one son, a bundle of joy named Izuku, who inherited his mother's green hair and eyes, as well as her kindness towards everyone she met, and his dad's analytical and tactical mind.
As Izuku grew Hiashi worried that he would inherit the powerful but also very seductive and dangerous All for One quirk, but the doting dad let out a sigh of relief when Izuku's Quirk test revealed him to have a potent form of pyrokinesis instead. [5] This caught the ire of Izuku's best friend Katsuki, and the relationship between them soured as Izuku wanted to use his power to help people while Katsuki wanted to be the very best, no matter what it took or who got in his way. [6]
The years flitted by, and Izuku grew from a somewhat shy and naive boy to a confident and determined young man. He was elated as he arrived at the prestigious UA High, and finally enlisted as a student pursuing his dream of becoming a Pro Hero like his hero, the legendary #1 of Japan, All Might. Little did he know that his life was about to become a whirlwind of political intrigue, romantic tension, and heroic adventure.
As Izuku soon discovered, his classmate Kyoka Jiro was a member of a faction of the Japanese nobility seeking to overthrow the Sosaki shogunate that had been ruling over Japan since the start of the Age of Quirks and reopen Japan to the rest of the world. This faction was known as the Heirs of Toyotomi, named after the great unifier of Japan who had failed in his efforts to wage war against the Ming dynasty.
Kyoka was not the only noble in training whose family supported the impending rebellion; she was aided by her loyal bodyguard, the popular and bubbly blue-haired idol in training Nejire Hado, the wealthy heiress and Yamamoto Nadeshiko Momo Yaoyorozu, and the introverted Tsuyu Asui.
While still grappling with this shocking revelation, Izuku learned of an even more surprising connection between himself and the shogunate: Shino Sosaki/Mandalay, one of his oldest and dearest friends, was not only the eldest daughter of the Sosaki shogunate but also had deep feelings for him. Kyoka too had fallen in love with Izuku, sparking a fiery rivalry between the two girls.
Despite the turmoil that threatened to engulf his life, Izuku devoted himself wholly to his studies at UA. His relentless drive and dedication caught the attention of both Eraserhead and Hawks, who saw great potential in the green-haired student. And yet, All Might, the Symbol of Peace, remained suspicious of Izuku—an unsettling feeling he couldn't shake brought on by Izuku's resemblance to his old nemesis, All for One.
All Might still remember Inko's wedding and the unease he had felt at hearing the name Midoriya and looking at his mentor's grandniece's husband. The man had seemed okay enough, a reputable businessman with a fire-breathing quirk, but there was something else about him, an aura of a predator that put Yagi on guard.
It also didn't help that Izuku had the same last name and attitude as All for One, which caused All Might to watch and observe Izuku from the shadows for now. [7]
While Izuku persevered at school, his father Hiashi secretly led another life: one that culminated in a daring rescue of the young girl Eri from the clutches of the Yakuza. Discovering that Eri was one of his many daughters from his true profession as the notorious villain All for One, Hiashi brought her home, passing her off to his wife Inko and a skeptical Izuku as a street child he had adopted. Eri quickly won the hearts of her new family; Inko showered her with maternal love, and even Izuku found himself growing more and more attached to his newfound sister.
Eri on the other hand, slowly began to heal from the abuse she had suffered at the hands of Overhaul and the so-called Eight Precepts of Death, Inko's love and Hiashi's fatherly guidance allowing the silver-haired girl to once again become a normal child. As time passed, Eri began to view Inko as her mother thanks to the love and care the latter showed her, and also develops a small crush on Izuku that later blossoms into a deep, romantic love for her beloved older brother.[8]
Izuku remained blissfully unaware of Eri's true feelings for him and continued working hard to achieve his dream of finally becoming a pro hero, which earned the ire of his former childhood friend turned bully, the hot-headed spiky-haired blonde Katsuki Bakugo.
Unbeknownst to the Midoriyas, the Meta Liberation Army had been quietly plotting their return to power, only to have their plans foiled by the Sosaki shogunate's network of spies and informants spread all over Japan and its overseas provinces in Korea and Taiwan. [9] As the MLA licked their wounds and prepared to strike again, the lovestruck girls in Izuku's life struggled with their feelings for him. Kyoka and Shino grudgingly agreed to share the object of their mutual affection, but their decision only fueled the jealousy of Izuku's other admirers, including Nejire, Shoko Todoroki, Mei Hatsume, Ochako Uraraka, and Tsuyu.
One weekend, Eri happened to find the girls attempting to locate Izuku, panicking that he might be in some kind of danger or locked away somewhere. After a heated discussion, they reached an uneasy agreement: Eri would join their secretive harem, so long as she kept their love for Izuku a secret until they graduated from UA.
At long last, the Meta Liberation Army made its move, only to have their headquarters destroyed in a mysterious explosion. The police soon apprehended the shattered organization, executing Re-Destro and other high-ranking members for treason. And so the Sosaki shogunate persevered, narrowly avoiding disaster once more.
Sometime after the fall of the MLA, Izuku is granted the honor of giving a speech at UA's sports festival, an event that he unwittingly shared with Eri. Unable to contain her joy, Eri burst into cheers, shouting "Onii-chan!" from the stands. All Might watch this display with narrowed, suspicious eyes, beginning to suspect the truth of Izuku and Eri's lineage.
As the festivities continued, a mysterious figure in the audience chuckled to himself—it was Koichi Haimawari, the Crawler, responsible for demolishing the MLA's headquarters. He watched Eri and Izuku with a knowing grin, predicting a future filled with love and family for the two. With one final look at the siblings, Koichi returned to watching the ceremony, content with the knowledge that the villainous specter that once loomed over the world had been banished once more.
Thus concludes this tale of love, adventure, and intrigue—a story that will be long remembered by all who witnessed it.
[1] In case you're wondering what these governments Japan set up as the local administration of the Korean peninsula and Taiwan, let me give a brief explanation. The Korean People's Republic was a short-lived attempt at granting Korea autonomy and self-governance within the Japanese state with the eventual goal of independence in the last days of WW1, and drew inspiration from the Soviets [Worker's councils] which the USSR was named for. The KPR was in the final stages of consolidation when the Soviets invaded the country on 24 August 1945, took over the People's Committees and established the Democratic People's Republic of Korea [DPRK], now known as North Korea.
America invaded the South in September 1945, suppressed the government of the PRK and set up the United States Army Military Government of Korea, which became the Republic of Korea [ROK], today known as South Korea.
Lyuh Woon-hyung, a key player in the fight for Korean independence and a major influence on the KPR's government, would have become the next leader of the KPR if not for its invasion and take-over by the Soviets and his subsequent assassination by Han-ji-Guen, a member of the fascist anti-Japanese White Clothes Society cult on July 19, 1947. With Lyuh's murder and the suppression of the KPR, Korea remained divided into American and Soviet puppet states which continues to this day.
The Kingdom of Tungning was a government in exile for the Ming dynasty during the last days of the Chinese empires located on Taiwan, founded by the half-Japanese pirate Koxinga. After the defeat of the Ming dynasty by the Jurchen tribes from Manchuria and the establishment of the Great Qing Empire that would rule over not only China from the Jurchen homeland of Manchuria but eventually Mongolia, East Turkestan, Tibet, Transamur and Tuva until its collapse via the Xinhai Revolution in 1912, the Kingdom of Tungning would become an independent nation with Koxinga's descendants reigning as the Zheng dynasty.
The Kingdom of Tungning was conquered by the Qing Empire in 1683, with Zheng Keshuang, the Prince of Yangping and last ruler of the nation, being taken to Beijing and given the title of Duke Hanjun. Taiwan would remain a mostly autonomous state until the Qing Empire transferred the island to Japan via the Treaty of Shimoseki in 1893.
[2] Juche is the governing ideology of the Kim family and the DPRK and in simple terms, means 'self-sufficiency and nationalism'. Illmism is an ultra-nationalist ideology in Korea that considers the Korean state to be the heir of the Chinese dynasties and thus a 'pure race' that should not be 'contaminated' by foreign influences. The latter was suppressed by Japan during the annexation and rule of the Korean People's Republic due to it being an offshoot of the ideology of the Yi dynasty that ruled Korea before the Japanese annexation and the Yi family's idolization of China's government structure, bureaucracy, and even philosophy to the point of thinking it [the Yi dynasty] was the true heir to the Chinese dynastic system after the Manchus ended it in 1644, but came to full force with the dictatorship of Syghman Rhee, the first president of South Korea.
Since the Soviets placed their own people into the KPR government before taking it over and creating the DPRK, it is safe to say that the basic structures of the DPRK government and become the Korean governing ideology would remain after the unification of Korea as the restored People's Republic under Japanese rule, as these were created by Lyuh Woon-hyung and the People's Committees before the Soviet invasion and American occupation of the Korean peninsula. But the communist influence created by the takeover by the USSR, Juche ideology, the Kim family and their loyalists, and any pro-Russian influence in both the Korean government and Korean People's Army would be systematically purged by the Japanese, along with Korean nationalists, Yi dynasty and yangban [Korean noble class] remnants and disloyal elements of the government and the former ROKAF [Republic of Korea Armed Forces], which itself would be integrated in the Korean People's Army after the reunification.
The restructured KPA itself acts as the local militia and self-defense force of the Korean peninsula within the Japanese state and conducts joint drills with the JSDF despite being considered a sub-division of the JSDF. The People's Social Security Forces is the name of the official law enforcement agency of the DPRK, and as I explained before, the resurrected KPA is just the North Korean government ruling over the whole Korean peninsula as a Japanese prefecture, with the Kims, Juche, and Russian and communist influence purged from the DPRK's government and military.
[3] The MLA and Hero Commission won't be ruling Japan from the shadows while puppet politicians and the top 5 Heroes are presented as the leaders of the nation this time around.
[4] With the Meta Liberation Army effectively suppressed and the Sosaki shogunate in charge of Japan instead of the in-efficient and Quirk supremacist Hero Commission, there is really no purpose for Hiashi to continue being a villain at this point.
[5] Yes, Izuku finally has a Quirk of his own in his fic.
[6]With his father's influence in his life, Izuku is more in touch with reality and not a blind savior trying to play Shirou Emiya. He still cares for those he loves and still wants to help those around him, but is more realistic in pursuing his goal.
[7] All Might might be a muscle-head and someone who is stubbornly single-minded, but he is not stupid. He would have been studying the life of Hiashi when the latter was All for One and have been tracking him through all his various disguises as the years went by, to get an edge on his mortal enemy.
[8] The loving affection of a normal family + the kindness that Inko and Hiashi show would help Eri to recover and regain some her lost innocence that was taken when she became the slave of Overhaul.
[9] Due to the shogunate's interest in knowing about everything that happens in Japan
