Max stirred in his bed and slowly opened his eyes. Sitting up he nearly forgot where the hell he was until he looked around the room. Remembering what day it is and where they're going today Max had a huge grin on his face as he tossed the covers off of him.
He turned to his right and looked at the clock to see that it was 6:30am, and since he doesn't hear anyone in the living room both adults are probably still asleep. Perfect. Max crept out of his room and sneaked into Ryan and Gwen's. He snickered to himself as he saw the adults still asleep.
Thinking about how they reacted the last time he interrupted their sleep Max decided to give them a break and not jump on the bed. This time he climbed up and sat on top of Ryan. He put his hands on Ryan's cheeks and began moving his hands up and down, left and right, in all manner of directions that made Ryan's face look hilarious that Max couldn't help but laugh. Ryan groaned before opening and eye to see Max sitting on top of him snickering to himself.
"Max?" Ryan yawned. "You know there are other ways to wake people up besides sitting on them."
"Yeah, but this way's more fun!" Ryan rolled his eyes at his response.
"Come on dad, get up!" Max said excitedly as he bounced on him. Ryan sighed as he sat up catching Max to stop him from bouncing on him.
"Alright, alright. You little slave driver." Ryan complied as he got up with Max in his arms and left his room. Ryan looked at the clock and seeing that it was 6:45, at least the kid didn't do it at the dead of dawn.
"Go get dressed and I'll get her majesty up," Ryan said putting Max down. "Now get." With that he gave Max a pop on his bottom. Max yelped and quickly ran to his room. Ryan went back to his room and was able to get Gwen up without much trouble.
Once the couple got themselves showered and dressed they came out to see that Max already dressed in his 'Best Day Ever' Disneyland shirt with a pair of cargo shorts. You could easily see that the boy was exuberant with excitement.
"Come on! Let's go!" Max said hopping in place.
"Hold on tiger," Ryan tried to calm the boy. "The Park doesn't open in another two hours. Let's get breakfast first." Max was about to argue until he and the other two heard his stomach growl effectively stoping any potential protests.
The family of three went down to the restaurant and it was packed! Max figured that it would be a while before they could be seated but it seemed like they were being expected since they didn't have to wait at all for a table. The moment they sat down the waitress came and took their orders and in no time at all their food arrived.
Max was too engrossed in his food to notice that a certain someone was approaching them. Gwen and Ryan smirked as the person came closer, but Max was still oblivious even when the person was right next to him.
"Hey kid, turn around." Gwen called out. Max rose an eyebrow at her thinking this was a trick to mess with him, but when he did the adults laughed at his shocked expression.
"Goofy!" Max squealed as he jumped out of his seat and gave his favorite Character a hug. Of course Ryan made sure to take plenty of pictures on this first of many encounters.
After breakfast they headed out and rode in a bus that would take them straight to the park. When they got there Max was jumping up and down with excitement. As they got closer to the gate they were greeted with a young woman.
"Hello there and welcome to Disneyland! I heard that we was having a special guest today, do you know where I can find Max?" Max shyly lifted his hand up. The woman beamed down at Max which took him off guard for a moment.
"Hi there bud, we're so happy to have you here with us today! My name is Stacy and it's my pleasure to make sure that today is the best day ever!" Though Gwen knew that her over exuberant attitude is part of the job she couldn't help but be reminded of David and rolled her eyes.
Ryan knowing exactly what she was thinking busted out laughing which earned him an elbow to the ribs. Max on the other hand was too excited to notice the adults as they started following Stacy.
They skipped the line and went to a private entrance for VIP's. Once inside Gwen took a hold of Max's hand lest they loose the kid in the crowd. The day was filled with Stacy giving them the VIP tour around the park and Max was loving every second of it. He rode on all the rides he wanted and his favorite was definitely space mountain!
They took a break to eat in the New Orleans section and then headed to the newest attraction area, Star Wars. Max was on cloud 9 when they entered there! Ryan even got him a red lightsaber! As the day lingered on the last part that they were going to see was the fireworks which they had the perfect seats to view them.
Max was sitting on Ryan's shoulders so he could see everything. Once the show started Max was amazed by the fireworks displayed. He never had seen fireworks this close up before and was simply memorized. As he looked down and seeing Gwen and Ryan together it made him think about how much his life has changed and it was all thanks to Gwen.
Even if she's not the most motherly type she does her best and to be honest Max likes Gwen the way she is and it also made him realize that he calls Ryan dad, but stills call Gwen by her name. Maybe it's time to fix that, however he was nervous that she wouldn't like it. Once the show was over, Max was walking while holding both adult's hands as they made their way back to their hotel.
On the ride back Max could feel himself being tired out and was leaning on Ryan. Ryan smiled at Max and pulled the boy closer and picked the tired boy up when they reached their hotel. Inside the room Ryan could see that the kid was on the borderline of passing out.
"Hey bud, you want help to get ready for bed or you good on your own?" Max cracked open an eye. Though his pride is telling him that he didn't need help like a fucking toddler, however, the side that craved attention from years of neglect and abuse won the fight as he looked at Gwen. Max nervously held his hand out to Gwen indicating that he wanted her to put him to bed.
Both adults were throughly shocked, especially Gwen who never thought that Max would do that. Ryan smiles as he held out Max for Gwen to take and she did so for the first time. Being in Gwen's arms was definitely different than Ryan's and Max could tell that she was nervous about it herself but he simply made himself comfortable.
"Goodnight lil man." Ryan said softly ruffling Max's hair.
"Night dad." Max mumbled out. Gwen gave a smile as she went to Max's room and went to find the kid's pajamas. Then for the first time she help Max undress which she was surprised that He was letting her. Once she was done she grabbed the onesie and unzipped it while weaving Max through it and zipped it back up.
Finished with her task she carefully tucked Max in the bed and before she could say Goodnight the most unexpected thing happened. Max wrapped his arms tightly around her neck.
"Thank you." Max whispered. Gwen was throughly shocked. This is the first time she has heard Max say that to her. She soon noticed that he was slightly shaking and could feel Max's eyes starting to tear up.
"Thank you for everything. For taking in a little shit like me. I don't deserve it, but-"
"Imma stop you right there kid," Gwen interrupted softly while rubbing the boy's back. "You do deserve it Max. You deserve to have people that cares for you. So never say you don't deserve it, you lil shit." She said with a grin and felt Max relax and chuckled.
"Thanks mom. I love you." At that Gwen froze. Did Max just call her mom? But her frozen state only lasted for a moment as she was soon filled with an emotion that she never thought she would feel. Unconditional love.
"I love you too Max." Hearing Gwen say that meant more to Max than he realized. He gave her another squeeze before letting go.
"Goodnight son." Gwen said softly as she gave him a kiss on the forehead.
