A fun, potent chapter.
With focus and effort, Rowan used pure power to levitate a series of rocks. Wordless power radiated from his body, sapping his life force until he was forced to drop them. "I feel like a jedi." He laughed, pleased with his efforts. "How'd I do?"
Agnes, the spirit now attached to him by magic, smiled. "Not terrible for a newbie, given a few months or even a year and you'll be a real terror. Telekinesis is a hard skill to master, especially without a spell. It is a manifestation of pure focus. Not many can do it successfully so soon."
He beamed with pride. "I do try."
"Yes, you do... I wonder, have you done anything with your prophetic powers?" That got him to freeze. "Oh, so you are unaware? Not shocking really, most sorcerers develop at least he power to view the past and present through divination, but I can sense in you the means to see and interpret the future. If you harnessed that power, you should be able to read through the veil, into the either and detect knowledge hidden to many. It is where the Oracle's, Nereus, the Gray Sisters and all Prophets and Seers get their visions from. It is an interesting power, I never excelled at it much but I can teach you if you'd like."
"Please do but can you explain it better?'
She sighed. "Prophetic powers work by seeing into the veil, into the Either. The collection of past thoughts, future ambitions and the stream of time. It allows people to see the branches and tributaries of time, gaining past, future and present knowledge. Divining tools helps focus the sight, as do stronger beings like Oracles, the Fates and so on... same with Nereus and the Gray Sisters. Witches can do this on a smaller scale depending on how gifted they are or if they have the innate gift. Spirits as beings of energy, are less tied to one frame of time and can see the future more clearly. Does that help?
He nodded. "Much better, thank you." He looked down at his hands. " I saw Percy's dream, that is how I went onto his quest... I was so ... is that tied?"
"I imagine so, that would make sense. Your powers are weak now, a mere spark, but with proper training it will blossom into a great wildfire but be careful to never reveal things you ought to not reveal less the gods punish you for it."
"What determines such gifts, bar Fate?"
She smiled. "Chance really, some people just have inclinations, and magic grows those qualities. Your mind is open and you can see possibilities naturally, so that blossomed into Sight. Now, let us work on that, it takes little power to see into the future." The training, as she would have it be, was mostly grabbing objects and reading their auras, digging into them with his power until he saw something. To his amazement, that happened almost instantly. Tiny flashes of things popped into his minds eye, things he couldn't clearly see. "See, I told you it would work. You are a gifted child."
That made him frown. "No gifted, no one gave me my powers. I earned them."
"A great point! Now, If I were you I would report your gifts to Mr. D, Less you be punished for revealing what is not proper. You are not protected by Oracular spirits or a god, you are rather exposed."
"""
Chiron looked at him, wide eyed. "You have sight? That is rare to find, even among Witches. Very helpful."
"I have only manifested past sight so far, and once seeing Percy's dreams... I am working on future sight and tapping into the either, but it will take me some time. Agnes told me to be safe, to tell Mr. D so that I am not smited for revealing things that I am not allowed to."
Mr. D snorted, putting his pinochle cards down. "A wise move, most of your kind are too arrogant to ever bother with that, thinking themselves above the laws of Olympus."
'I am above your petty laws... but not in terms of power, so I am a good boy for now.' Putting on a false humble look, he nodded. "I am not a fool, I know better."
"Good boy. I will report your gifts to Olympus later but for now be careful for what you say and see less you sight go too far."
Nodding, he turned to Chiron. "Anything you wish to add?"
"Just be careful, my daughter paid the price for abusing her powers of sight... I do not wish to see it happen to another." And that ended the conversation entirely on a very, very sad note...
"""
"I need a seeing mirror." Rowan started at Charlie, excited. "I have the power of sight and a seeing mirror can help me to focus my mystical skills. Wanna help me?"
His friend beamed. "Sounds fun, where do we start?"
"Agnes has some ideas, but we might need some sacred silver, it is the best conduit for magical sight. It can't be too big, like hand mirror size, compact mirror. Something I can take with me easily..."
"Will do, we don't have much silver so it would have to be small as it is. I am happy for you, no one can deny your powers now."
Rowan would have answered, but the potent pull of a god's power washed through him and he all but collapsed. Charlie helped him to a bench, the other demigods looking at him in bored concern.
"Who is calling me?" He focused his thoughts and before he knew it, his mind was torn from his body, flying away at speeds so fast he could not see where he was going until he landed by a gazebo, white and flowery, with the most stunning woman looking at him. She was stall and statuesque, with soft blue eyes and curly blonde hair.
"Hello, Rowan, I have a task for you to complete." She said, her voice as lovely as her face.
"Um... who are you, sorry to be rude but I am not sure what to call you?"
She laughed. "My name is Persephone."
"Oh... sorry, My lady." he bowed to her. "How may I be of service?"
"Well, that is the hard part isn't it... gods this will take a while, but you must first swear an oath of silence." Her tone was sharp, cold and unyielding. "Only when the secret is revealed can you reveal your part in this. I and Hades will protect you when it comes out."
"Only if I am and the world am in no danger."
"Minimal for you, and not all for the world."
Rowan sighed. "Fine, I agree..." The world thundered and he knew he had signed a pact of power.
She smiled again, and he felt lighter. "I need you to save two very important souls, my Husband's children and no he did not break the oath. They were born before, and hidden away to keep them safe but it is time they are to be brought out. Do this, and you will be rewarded."
He knew there was a huge catch... "I already agreed... but where are they?"
"At the Lotus Hotel and Casino of course, you were right to be wary of it before. Those within are lost to time, but it is time for you to find and save them and perhaps train them to ensure their survival..."
"Yes, ma'am. When do I leave?"
"Wait until your Seeing Mirror is crafted, then go. It might come in handy, who knows... now go, and remember your oath of silence. You cannot tell them their own heritage, but you can train them in their powers... there is a spell in your grimoire to ensure they are hidden from view, it is a costly, hard to cast spell... be very careful! Oh and you can tell Agnes, she would find out anyway. She is bound by Hades and I to not reveal anything anyway."
And like that he was back with Charlie, groaning. "Don't ask... astral projection is so hard as a mortal... ugh... I have a quest to get to when we are done."
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a joy to write.
