The relentless wind whipped against Hiccup's face with a ferocity he had never before experienced. They had been flying through the storm for what felt like an eternity, with towering waves and deafening thunder behind them. The sound was so loud that he could barely hear himself think, let alone communicate with Toothless.
Despite his own struggles, Hiccup knew that Toothless was struggling even more. The dragon was exhausted and visibly alarmed by the intensity of the storm. As the wind grew even stronger, Hiccup felt Toothless' massive wings struggling to stay aloft. It was clear that they needed to find some sort of shelter, or they would surely perish.
Desperately scanning the horizon, Hiccup strained to see any sign of land amidst the vast ocean and unrelenting tempest. But there was nothing but darkness and tumultuous waves stretching out in every direction.
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Hiccup closed his eyes for a moment and centered his thoughts. He knew that he needed to remain focused if they were going to survive this ordeal. Leaning forward, he whispered words of encouragement to Toothless, hoping to soothe the frightened dragon and steel his own resolve for the journey ahead.
The reality of the situation hit Hiccup like a punch to the gut. The day had been a disaster, completely opposite of what he had hoped for. His plan to change people's minds about dragons, to show them that these creatures were not mindless killers, had failed miserably.
For generations, they had fortified their village with walls, trained armies, and developed weapons to protect themselves against these fearsome beasts. The belief that dragons were out to destroy the village and kill anyone in their path was deeply ingrained in the Vikings bodies.
But Hiccup had always known the truth. He had spent countless hours observing and studying the dragons, learning their behavior and individual personalities. He had even developed a method for calming them down, by using grass to put them into a trance-like state.
Toothless, in contrast to the other dragons, was an exceptional creature. He possessed an unwavering loyalty to Hiccup, a deep sense of compassion, and an uncanny wit that never failed to amuse his companion. Over time, Hiccup had taken it upon himself to train Toothless in various skills, such as flying upside down and performing barrel rolls, which showcased the dragon's remarkable aptitude for learning. Through their shared experiences and trials, the bond between Hiccup and Toothless grew stronger, defying the preconceived notions that dragons were nothing more than mindless beasts.
At first, he had wanted to run away from the situation, but Astrid held him back and yet encouraged him to make the decision for himself. In hindsight, he realized that granting him such freedom of choice was a mistake. He spent the entire night pondering over his options, considering every possible course of action. Killing the dragon was out of the question for him, no matter the cost.

When Hiccup attempted to subdue the Monstrous Nightmare by discarding all of his weapons and signaling to everyone that he was not one of them, the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Despite coming close to taming the creature, he was disrupted by his father's forceful pounding on the iron bars surrounding the arena with his hammer. This not only disoriented himself but also threw the dragon completely off course. As a result, the Monstrous Nightmare began attacking Hiccup, who had to flee for his life while panic swept through the arena.
The commotion did not go unnoticed. Toothless managed to break free from the valley, where he normally would have needed his flying gear to do so, driven by his unwavering desire to stand by his rider's side. Using his claws to gain traction, he scaled his way out of his dwelling and raced towards Berk.
It proved to be a significant misstep.
As Toothless burst through the arena to help Hiccup by chasing away the Monstrous Nightmare, all of the Vikings charged inside in a frantic attempt to capture the elusive dragon. Prior to this, no one had ever seen a Night Fury before, and now, suddenly, this mysterious black creature was before them, a creature that could disable the catapults with just one shot.
Hiccup desperately tried to persuade Toothless to flee, using every ounce of his powers, but the stubborn dragon refused to budge from his side. And thus, the inevitable tragedy played out - Toothless was captured, leaving Hiccup to face the wrath of his father. The elder Viking was more than furious - he was absolutely livid. Hiccup could hear his father's words echo in his mind, like a broken record: "You have devoted yourself to these creatures. You are not a true Viking. You are not even my son!"
These haunting words reverberated incessantly through his mind. Fortunately, Hiccup had kept his visit to the cove a secret, but he had also concealed the root cause of the dragons' attacks. Despite that, Toothless was marked for execution, and the one to carry out the sentence was none other than Hiccup's own father, Stoick.
Hiccup couldn't let that atrocity come to fruition. So what if he was no longer considered Stoick's son? He could live with that. Resolved to break free from Berk's stifling grip, Hiccup made a momentous decision to flee.
Under the cover of darkness, he crept into the arena and liberated Toothless.
As Hiccup soared into the sky, he was met with a sudden barrage of projectiles. The sound of loaded catapults and the whistle of incoming shots filled his ears. When he swiveled around to identify his attacker, his breath hitched in his throat. It was his father who manned the weapon, reloading and firing with a menacing look in his eyes. The realization that his own flesh and blood was attempting to harm him solely because of his differing beliefs hit Hiccup like a ton of bricks, crushing any hope he had for departing Berk with fond memories. Even Astrid, who had shared a romantic flight with him the night before, stood motionless and watched as Hiccup fled the village. Seething with anger, he turned his back on the place he had once called home and took off on Toothless.
The last words Hiccup heard were his father's piercing cry: "You are banished, Hiccup! If you ever set foot on Berk again, you will know what it means to face Ragnarok!"
From that moment on, Hiccup never heard from his father again.

Now they were far out at sea and even Toothless was slowly starting to weaken as the fierce winds almost took control of their flight.
Hiccup tried his best to assist his friend with his prosthetic leg. He had long since lost track of their course after battling the storm for what felt like an eternity. Their only hope was to soon escape it all.
Hiccup was already showing the first signs of a cold, with his green clothing completely soaked through and the cold wind making him feel like he was submerged in icy water. He shivered violently as they were hit by another strong gust, struggling to avoid being thrown into the churning sea by the downdrafts. "Buddy, I'm trying!," he yelled, but his efforts seemed futile against the raging storm. The progress they had made after the last gust had been undone, leaving them at the mercy of the elements. The Night Fury hummed nervously, sensing the danger that lurked just beneath the surface of the sea. They had never been this close to it before, and the next gust could spell their untimely demise straight to Valhalla.
"Oh Toothless, look! There's something over there - a light!" Hiccup exclaimed, his voice barely audible over the howling winds. Suddenly, a glimmer of hope ignited within him. The light, though faint, was distinct and visible on the distant horizon.
Toothless summoned every ounce of strength left in him, pushing forward against the unrelenting winds with determination. Hiccup adjusted his prosthetic leg, positioning himself for the final push towards the light. It was their only chance to survive this storm, and they weren't going to let it slip away.
Hiccup yearned for more adventures with Toothless. He dreamt of exploring new lands and encountering like-minded tribes who shared their beliefs about dragon companionship. Perhaps they might even encounter more Night Furies like Toothless - a thought that filled Hiccup with both wonder and excitement.
The point on the horizon drew nearer and nearer, with several outlines becoming visible in the rain. They appeared to be ships, with a large vessel leading the way that boasted three hulls and heavily armed with large, decorated sails adorning the masts.
A warship.
Hiccup and Toothless were too fatigued to care where they would land. "Come on, Toothless, let's... Careful!" Suddenly, a powerful gust of wind caught them off guard, causing him to lose control of Toothless. The Night Fury struggled to keep them airborne, and Hiccup could no longer distinguish which way was up or down.
Then, without warning, they were thrown to the ground with a hard impact. To Hiccup's relief, they had not crashed into the water, but rather landed on the deck of the large ship. He frantically searched for Toothless and finally found him lying beside him, seemingly unharmed.
Though still in shock, they had survived the ordeal.
