Hello guys.
Decided on writing a Cal Kestis/Merrin story one of the very few, if not only pairing I actually like from the Disney universe.
I loathe Rey Palpatine/Kylo, because Rey would be better off with Poe or Finn.
So glad Jedi Survivor has put Cal/Merrin together, one of the main reasons I bought the game. Even the actress who plays Merrin ships them.
Never really got into Rebels, Mandalorian, or all the other stuff. Even Clone Wars I saw spottily, but never truly embraced. Mind you I understand the importance of Clone Wars fixing the prequels, but different topic.
This takes place shortly after Jedi Fallen Order but pre-Survivor game. The Battle Scars novel is immaterial.
Inside the Mantis
Cere Junda stops near a wall looking down the hall to see Cal Kestis and Merrin at the workbench. Cal has field stripped his lightsaber for showing the Nightsister individual parts and curious wonder from the Dathomirian on how the device works.
Even Cal has peace alongside a smile when talking to their ally, even growing friend. Surprised at how Kestis usually carries the weight of everything on his shoulders, despite being just a teenager, is for a few moments doesn't seem as heavy.
How Merrin despite surviving for years as the last Dathomirian, isolated on the planet managed to not just stay sane but not lose herself into a monster. Is impressive on its own yet has massive weight and trauma. Yet that seems to ease up some around Kestis, Cere notices. Beyond just the budding friendship Cere notes being an attraction between the teenagers who despite everything are just that.
Despite Cal being a Jedi, well Cere notes bitterly all the rules of not being attached ended up getting them an obliterated order. Never mind how various Jedi were not all Grand Master Yoda, or Mace Windu.
After all Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi had various wives on his home planet and the reason given was due to his species' low birth rate for being exempt. Rumors of Obi-Wan and just how close he really was involving Duchess Satine Kryze, Junda recalls. Besides Cal would hardly be the first Jedi to fall for a Dathomirian given Asajj Ventress with Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, Cere notes.
If it wasn't for her attachments to Cal, Greez, BD-1, her old master, or even Merrin Junda knows resisting the Dark Side to end Vader wouldn't have been possible.
Pushing those thoughts aside Cere watches Cal handing Merrin the green kryber crystal which the Nightsister delicately examines in her hand, and listens to the Jedi explanation. Only Cere's mouth slides open into a quiet gasp upon going over how it is green.
Initially, Cal used a blue blade yet following Ilum had a green blade. Never truly thought much of that change being perhaps Cal had reached a different point in his path. Maybe the Jedi's path is linked to the Nightsister given the use of magick being a similar shade, could the two be linked? Was it whatever connection the Jedi and Merrin supposedly have subtly influencing Cal's actions? Only time can answer.
Letting out a soft smile Cerre knows if Cal and Merrin can find some joy in these dark times then that's good. Hopefully, this will not end like they did, Cere muses. Since Cal and Merrin are lost in their own little world, with glancing down to see BD-1 who shuts off a recording light Cere decides enough time has been spent observing.
Turning around Cere with BD-1 following decides to go see what Greez is cooking in the kitchen.
Hope you all enjoyed this one shot and let me know what you think in the comments.
Yeah, I pulled Ki-Adi-Mundi's wives' situation from Legends canon.
Regarding Cal's lightsaber being green and inspiration for this fic? When playing Jedi Survivor, which I'm still in my first gameplay, I switched Cal's lightsaber from blue to green given Cal's feelings involving Merrin.
In canon reality, unlike players merely needing a workbench, would have been following Cal's trip to IIum when gaining a new crystal in Fallen Order.
Until next time.
