As I gazed out the car window, my eyes fixated on the blur of green and brown outside. The trees and telephone poles flew past me, the landscape rapidly changing. The car was taking me away from my hometown, Faraway, a small and cosy place that had been my home for as long as I could remember. I was leaving behind my old life, my old friends, and my old memories. All of it seemed to be slipping away like sand through my fingers. It was a strange mix of excitement and apprehension that coursed through my veins. What would the future hold for me? I couldn't help but wonder.
Fortunately for me I don't have to because my mom had already figured it all out. "-and the apartment is only a few blocks from the school, so you won't even need to take the bus. Oh I just remembered! Sorry but because summer break is coming to an end in a few weeks, I've decided to enrol you in the local highschool, Winslow I think it was called."
I grunted, making my disappointment known. School. It had been so long since I last attended, and the thought of going back made my stomach churn. All the new people, talking and chatting, how would I, a mute cyclops, make any friends? Thinking about it, I suppose I would be in 11th grade by now. Highschool, if the movies I've seen are correct then it's the most important time of your life, I better not mess it up.
My mom seemed to sense my unease and gave me a reassuring smile. "I know it's been a while, but being around kids your own age will do wonders for you, and before you know it, you'll have a bunch of new friends to hang out with." I knew her words were meant to comfort me, but all I could think was she wanted to run away from all the reminders of Mari, that included the backyard, the house, my friends, and everything else in Faraway.
As I stared out the car window, my mind wandered to thoughts of my old friends. Basil, Aubrey, Kell, Hero. I didn't want to forget them, but at the same time, I kind of understood what mom was getting to. Maybe it was for the best to get away from it all and start fresh. It's not like my opinion mattered, I knew how much my mom had sacrificed for us to move away and start a new life, and I couldn't disappoint her after all this.
My mom broke the silence, interrupting my thoughts. "Sunny, I know you refused before, but with this move, I think it's time you reconsidered your decision."
Reconsidered what decision? My heart filled with dread.
She continued, "The city we're moving to has a decently sized wards team compared to the one in the country and with how much you have improved the last year and I, I hope that you are more open to the idea now. It would be a great way for you to have some freedom to use your powers. and don't forget that you would be surrounded by people who have been through similar things, that's a plus!"
No! No! No! Not the wards, and I seriously doubted that, how many people killed their sister, framed it as a suicide, then lied to and abandoned their friends causing their friend group to fall apart. There is no way they would let me join the wards if they knew what I did!
But still the thought still spurred on my imagination, me, as the stoic hero Tulip, running around, fighting crime, all without a shred of fear.
And I would have my trusty cat sidekick Mewo, and along with my friends we would save the day, no matter the odds, and one day while me and my hero friends were having a picnic in the park the ground shook like there was an earthquake.
"What was that!" Yelped the peaceful Gardener.
"That sounds like it came from the city!" The reckless Unstoppable said standing up and pointing.
"Of course it came from the city, doofus, what Gardner was asking was what it was!" Lady Gladiolus cried. The heroine who breaks skulls with her bat just as easily as she breaks hearts with her words.
"How am I supposed to know?"
"Stop bickering you two, we can find out what it is by going to the city and checking it out. Come on, let's follow Tulip, we don't have time to dilly dally." Said SuperHero. He was the oldest, who mentored the group as they learned how to fight crime.
As we reached the city, chaos greeted us. Buildings were in ruins, cars were flipped over, and people were screaming and running in every direction. Suddenly, we heard a loud roar, and our eyes were drawn to a towering figure in the centre of the destruction.
"Pluto? But he's the solar system's greatest defender, why is he attacking Urbenburg?" SuperHero said, confusion in his voice.
"Who cares? We have to stop him before he destroys the entire city!" Lady Gladiolus yelled.
Without a second thought, we charged towards Pluto, ready to stop him at any cost. Lady Gladiolus was the first to engage, her bat glinting in the sunlight as she charged towards the rampaging planet. Super Hero followed soon after, his fists crackling with energy as he landed a powerful blow. Unstoppable and the Gardener provided support from the sidelines, doing their best to keep the civilians safe.
Despite Pluto's immense power, we managed to work together and take him down. Panting and exhausted, we surrounded the defeated planet and demanded an explanation for his uncharacteristic behavior.
Pluto groaned as he slowly regained consciousness. "Humans... they revoked my planet status. They said I wasn't big enough or important enough to be considered a planet anymore. Can you imagine that? After all the years I've spent protecting the solar system, they just cast me aside like I'm nothing."
We exchanged shocked glances. We had no idea humans could be so callous. Super Hero stepped forward and placed a hand on Pluto's shoulder. "We understand how you feel, Pluto, but this is not the way to go about it. We can help you-"
It was at that moment I looked away from the window and groaned, my head was pulsating like mad from car sickness. Ok daydreaming while in the car was a bad idea. Ugh, ow. Come on mom, start talking some more.
Thanks for reading this snippet. I'm planning on continuing this, but I have no idea what Sunny powers should be.
Honestly that's the entire reason for writing this snippet, so I could ask for help on what Sunny's power should be, I would also like to hear your thoughts on this crossover in general, what do you think would be an interesting way to take it?
And finally I'm open to criticism, I'm new to all this and I want to improve my writing.
