The shepherds have been traveling non-stop lately, but after one more night of camping, they should arrive back at Elise the following day. It was Robin's turn to keep watch, well to be more accurate keep volunteered to keep watch. Like many others, he's been a bit anxious to return home because of that, he sees it as his job as the technician to calm everyone else's nerves even for just a little while. Normally, Frederick would be on Night Watch, but unfortunately, things didn't go his way this time.
" You're still up?" Robin asked his friend.
" Of course I am. Frederick responded, "We are very close to the kingdom, We're still in enemy territory, but be a disgrace if I were to let my guard down now and something or someone were to attack us." Robin laughed. He knew he was right, but he couldn't let him know that.
"Come on, Freddy bear. We agreed that if I beat you, you had to listen to my one request: get some sleep like everyone else." There it was his one trick up his sleeve that could make me Unstoppable Frederick cave
" it's bad enough that you actually bested me in combat, but now you have to continue to mock me by using that name."
His skills in the army were almost unmatched. Normally, he'd win most of his sparring matches with the other Shepherds. Robin, on the other hand, used his brain to win the fight
" Look, just get one night's sleep, and I'll keep watch, and hey, I'll even give you a rematch once we make it back."
" My one condition is once I win, you were to never call me by that name ever again." Instead of a verbal agreement, Robin simply gave him a pat on the shoulder, and Frederick finally went into his tent, leaving Robin alone.
A few hours passed, and Robin was starting to get bored. The ideal situation was that nothing should happen. The last thing he wants is for Frederick to be right, but he was hoping for something to happen so he could distract himself.
"Just a little bit longer." He mumbled to himself.
" Why don't you call it a night." The sudden voice from the Shadows caused him to jump.
" Who's there?" He didn't have his teams with him, but he did bring his sword.
" Come out slowly so I can see you." He reached for his sword, and the stranger revealed themselves. It was Marth, or at least that's what she called herself.
" My apologies. I didn't mean to scare you."
" Well, I wasn't necessarily scared, just trying to be a little cautious." She could tell he was lying by the way he was avoiding eye contact with her.
"Your secret's safe with me." She said with a smile.
" So what brings you here? Hopefully, it's not another warning."
" Nothing of the sort, I just noticed you seemed more tired than you were letting on, so I figured I could keep watch for you." But certainly wasn't the response he was expecting, but he was happy to hear that. Marth had a habit of showing up whenever something bad was going to happen she claimed she could see the future. As crazy as it sounds, her predictions have been accurate so far. " Did I say something wrong. "
" No, you didn't." Robin answered. "Actually, I think it would be nice if we could just sit and talk."
"You want to talk with me, what about?"
" If nothing is going to be killing us anytime soon, then we can talk about anything. You always show up whenever we're in danger and then disappear. Which is a real shame because I would like to get to know you better."
"I see." She said with a smile. " If I'm being honest, I was hoping for the same thing."
" Glad we're on the same page then,"
" Is there anything you want to know specifically?"
" You have knowledge of some events in the future, but that doesn't really answer the question of why you're so eager to help us. Is there some connection between you and ylisse?" Best off of marks facial expression, she didn't expect them to ask such a personal question right out the game. She thought herself a bit before responding, then finally spoke up.
" I could ask you the same question." She said. " You're the technician of the Shepherds, but unless I'm mistaken, you're an outsider. I've even witnessed Sam that sometimes you'll put yourself on the front lines without hesitation. Why do that? Who is Chrom to you? "
Robin seemed a little puzzled at the question. To him, the answer was obvious.
"Chrom is my friend. Why wouldn't I help him?" The answer was so simple, but Marth almost seemed relieved hearing him say that.
" You're a good person, Robin. To answer your question, I simply believe that the world will be a better place with him around." It wasn't the answer he was expecting, but Robin knew getting straight answers out of her was going to be difficult. " I have another question for you. You said you had Amnesia when you first met the Shepherds, has your memories started to come back at all?" He shook his head now but didn't seem to be bothered by it.
"Sure, it would be nice to have them back, but as of now, my bond with the Shepherds is all I have they're my family, and I can live with that." Another smile came across Smurfs face, but it soon disappeared as she started to think to herself. "Um, if you don't mind me asking, what's your real name.?"
" Excuse me?"
" When we first met, you said we could call you Marth. Based on how you set it. I'm assuming it's a nickname or a name you give yourself. Though it's not impossible for your parents to have named you after the hero King, I have a feeling that's not the case."
" ask me again next time we see each other and I'll tell you " that answer clearly made him disappointed, she didn't answer her single one of his questions the way he wanted but you felt compelled to respect her wishes. " Good night, Robin." She gave him one last smile before disappearing into the forest.
Robin continued his shift until it was time for everyone to move out, and they were able to make it back to the kingdom without any incidents. Chrome wanted to have a big meeting to discuss their next plan of action, but once he locked eyes with his little girl Lucina. He gave in and pushed it off till tomorrow. No one seems to have any issues with it, including Robin, who secretly just wanted to lay down after pulling an all-nighter. Perhaps it was because of how tired he was, but his thoughts were still clouded thinking of Marth. At first, he thought it was admiration, but as the time went on, he started to suspect that he was developing feelings for her, or at least he was attracted he wasn't really sure.
"Marth, I wonder when I'll see you again." He whispered himself as he laying in bed, finally getting some sleep.
As the weeks and months went by, Robin was only left with his thoughts of his memories of the time you spent with Martha, and his feelings started to grow even more. One more time, he just needed to see her one more time so they could talk. Maybe then everything would be clearer for him.
Finally, the day had come. The Shepherds were in the midst of the battle. Normally, it wouldn't seem as dire, but it was in the den of night while they were holding their own. Robin couldn't help but notice that chrom was separated from the group. He's an amazing fighter, but he would need backup if he got overrun. As Robin tried to make it over to his friend, he noticed something in the distance, Marth was here. He knew she was quick, but she was rushing to chroms side like her life depended on it. The fact that she was here meant that something bad was most likely going to happen.
"Chrom, look out!" As those words left his lips, he saw the reason behind Marth's desperation. An assassin had somehow managed to sneak up on Chrom, but luckily, she was able to make it in time to save them. With their leader safe, the rest of the Shepherds could finally focus on finishing the battle.
Once I was finally over, Robin took a couple of seconds to catch his breath. He then heard the sound of a Pegasus knight's steed making its way towards him.
"Robin, have you seen the captain?" Sumia asked. She had a worried expression on her face, but it was easy to understand why. She almost lost her husband, after all.
"He's with Marth, I believe they went this way." Robin was happy to have Sumia here. He was really eager to speak to Marth. Now he had an excuse. As they proceeded further until the woods the young technician couldn't help but think back to the battle, you could have sworn Martha's head shouted something but she was too far for him to hear, and it was too dark to read her lips.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard someone crying. It sounded like a woman it was probably Marth. But why would she be crying? did something happen?
The two finally reached their destination, and the site was truly something to behold, Chrom was comforting Marth as she was bawling her eyes out. Clearly, something else was going on here, but for some reason, seeing his best friend hold her like that turned his stomach.
"Robin?" Chrom finally spoke up. " How long have you been there?"
"Oh well, it's not like he did anything wrong, but for some reason, he felt extremely nervous all of a sudden. "W-Well, Marth was crying, and I didn't want any rumors to start so."
"What?"
"Oh nevermind"
"And Sumia, what are you doing to that poor flower?" Robin was so caught up in his own jealousy he completely forgot about Sumia.
"N-Nothing, I wasn't spying, and you can't prove otherwise." She lied as easy as it was to breathe. " Of course he had to talk to her again." She had the same exact thoughts as Robin, but seeing her act this way just made him feel bad. Now everything just felt awkward. Chrom gave out a sign trying to think of a way to clear up the misunderstanding.
"Can we tell her Lucina?" he asked Marth.
"Of course." When she responded, both Robin and Sumia froze.
"This is going to sound crazy, so I'm just going to say it out right. Sumia, this is our daughter." He didn't expect her to believe him, but blank look on their faces made it same as if their brains had shut down.
"What?" Sumia finally spoke up.
"WHAT?" Robin followed after.
" it's true," Marth, "No Lucina said. "I can prove it." She walked up to them both and showed them her eye. It had the brand of the exalt, just like their baby back at the Kingdom. She's been explained to them how her gift of being able to see the future was all a lie. In reality, she doesn't foresee the future she is from the future. And she went back in time to prevent their deaths.
Well, it did all sound crazy, it did all makes sense once you start to put the pieces together. When he spoke to Lucina the other day she kept her distance for Robin couldn't get a good look at her brand, and once he got a good look at her he did see the family resemblance between her and her parents.
"Lucina, give grown up to be so beautiful." Sumia said as she held her.
"Mother, I missed you so much." Lucia tried to fight back the tears, but she couldn't help herself. What's the misunderstanding cleared up? It seems like the family was reunited. However, Robin was not happy about this news because of the elephant in the room: he's in love with his best friend's daughter.
"Oh boy."
