Chapter Forty-Two
Defenseless By Sound Waves
A/N: WARNING-The character known as Sage Amesawa uses a lot of profanity and colorful language as part of his "colorful" personality. Be prepared if you are sensitive to that. Please note it is not because I condone such manner of speech, and also the character does not mean to use it as a way to be harmful, it is just his personality.
"What's going on!?" Sage Coughed, "I can't see anything!"
Hana was hacking while Saseme tried to shield her eyes from the smokescreen of rock and soil that came when they had slammed into the earth on the forest floor-
Dosu's head layed submerged in a mound as Zaku smirked from the background...
"Ha...got you just in time." he stated cooly, "That impact could have been much worse for you..."
Sure enough, Dosu retrieved himself from the soil and gave a good shake.
"What!?" Saseme gasped.
"This can not be-!" said Lee.
"That is a frightening Jutsu..." Dosu said lowly, "It nearly took me out- even though I landed on this soft dirt..."
"Did he say...soft dirt?" Hana questioned.
"Funny..." Sage huffed heavily trying to maintai his breath, "That certainly didn't look like it would have been a soft landing..."
"Now...it's my turn..." said Dosu.
"Oh no, Lee!" Saseme said softly with her teeth clenched.
This is not good...
Lee thought to himself as he struggled for breath-
My body still has not recovered from that jutsu...!
Dosu rushed Lee and made a swing- and while it looked as though Lee managed to dodge it- it was not a physical assault that he was after-
"Lee, No...!" Sakura and Saseme said together.
Dammit!
The Uchiha girl huffed.
I can't even get up to help him-! I've just used far too much energy to muster up anything useful...
She clenched her teeth as she watched.
She hated feeling useless.
"Saseme..." Sage said softly, watching her with eyes of concern...
"Your jutsu is indeed fast..." said Dosu, who's voice fell upon Lee's damaged ears in waves of distortion, "But ours is even faster because it travels at the speed of sound..."
Lee huffed dizzily and fell to his knees out of balance.
"Effort by itself does nothing." said Dosu, "Now watch...we are going to show you something called The Wall..."
Sakura clenched her teeth, watching helplessly as Rock Lee's breath got heavier and fell weaker...
He continued to grunt weakly as they taunted him.
"Lee, what's wrong!?" asked Sakura
The sound in his head was deafening and world warping...he couldn't hold himself down, hunched over as he hacked from the effect and held a hand to his bleeding ear-
"Oh, I forgot to tell you about this little gadget I wear..." said Dosu as he lugged over a bulky metalic piece on his arm, "You might be able to dodge my blows...but you can't escape my attack."
"What could he have up his sleeve now?" Sakura wondered.
"Call it a hunch..." Saseme whispered back, "But I think the effect of his sound attacks are some how linked to that thing on his arm."
"You'd be correct~" Dosu chuckled, "See...I don't need to strike you with my fists...I can hit you with the power of sound~"
S-Sound!?
Lee panted.
"What makes it possible for the ear to hear things?" asked Dosu, "What is sound, really?"
"...Vibrations..." they all hissed out in a low tone.
"Correct."said Dosu, commending the remaining conscious Genin on their answer-
"Lomg story short, with a high enough sound wave...it can be impossible to maintain balance..." Saseme said softly after Dosu's lecture on sound and how it travels.
"Feeling a little dizzy? Nauseous?" he chuckled, "That's right, best if you don't even try to stand up for a while..."
"Lee..." Saseme called out softly.
"You see, buddy, that old fashioned Taijutsu stuff won't work against us~" said Zaku.
Lee growled softly.
"That's no good at all." said Saseme, "Lee's Taijutsu is what he prides himself on...if he can't use it..."
"Not that you're not ptrtty good at it." said Zaku, "It's just...what's the point? Compared to our Jutsu- that technique is yesterday's news!"
he smirked, "See, I can manipulate ultrasonic waves and air pressure~" he grinned, "I can do things you've never even dreamed off..." he stated, "I can obliterate boulders- or make the ground itself as soft as a father cushion."
"I see..." said Sage.
"So that explains the soft dirt comment from before..." added Hana.
"Face it, little ones..." he hummed, "You're up against the jutsu of the future~"
"Now then, little girls~" Dosu growled, "It's your turn!"
"NO!" Lee called out.
"Sakura!" Saseme called to her fellow kunoichi as Dosu came charging at her, and readied herself for a fight-
That is until Lee tried to come between them.
"LEAF HURRICANE!" the boy grunted. The damage was taking it's toll and he couldn't muster out his attacks properly.
"Ha- not quite as it impressive as it was before- is it!?" said Dosu, "Still, it's impressive that you can even move at all!" he stated, "I'll have to do something about that-"
His arm came in for a swing that Lee managed to block with a guard- but the damage of the sound based attack was far too much-
"Lee, no!" Sakura and Saseme called to the boy.
"STOP IT!" Sakura screamed... but Dosu paid her no mind as he stood over the boy's collapsed body.
"All right little man...time to end it..."
"That's what you think!" Sakura threw her weapons, which all but bounced off of her opponent's metalic device- causing him to stop for just a moment and shift his attention toward her.
"Oh...I had almost forgotten you..."
