Decided to drift from some of the other stories a bit and write this story. From the beginning of the Divergent series I was attracted to the Dauntless instructors, and I was interested in their past. Tobias's past was revealed throughout the series, but I was not satisfied with how little Lauren was included. This is my take on a story for Lauren, the Dauntless-born instructor throughout Divergent and initiation with the Dauntless. Some things will not completely match up with the stories so I can develop my plot; even though Lauren's original faction was not revealed, it was suspected she's Dauntless-born. However, here I will be changing it. Do not steal, copy, or trace my writing or art without permission. I will report if you do, thank you!

Chapter 1 - Warning

I pace nervously next to Four, who is calmly leaning against the post. Surprising, even though this was only his second time being a instructor, he was much calmer than me, even though I've done this way more than he has.

"Calm down Laur," Ava says, half laughing at me. I glare at my best friend and she stops.

"Calm down huh." I say sarcastically. "The only thing that is going to fucking calm me down is throwing a knife at something. I'm so damn tense I need to shoot something."

Ava grins at my brutal honest and elbows me. I elbow her back and we both smile.

Four glances at me. I stare at him without backing down. His intimidating look was terrifying to everyone in Dauntless, and partly because he was a absolute Dauntless prodigy, first member to ever hit below five fears. I try not to let it scare me.

"Now hey there, Four, stop traumatizing your colleagues." Zeke says, squeezing his friend's shoulder. Four mutters something under his breath before turning to face the net again. I laugh and turn to face it. We're waiting for the new initiates to arrive. At least, the initiates who survived the train jump.

"How much longer until they get here?" I ask Henric, one of the guys from my initiation class. He checks his watch. "three more minutes till the train reaches here."

"Who do you think is going to be the first jumper?" Zeke asks, smirking. Four has a slight smile on his face. "Whoever it is, I hope they don't have jump as bad as yours." Four says.

Zeke scowls.

"Probably a Dauntless born initiate," Ava says, cutting in. "Or if they're brave enough, maybe a Candor or Erudite." I add, smirking.

"How many do you guys think there are going to be from each faction?" Shauna asks, one of Four's friends.

One of the other Dauntless members shrug. There's a whole crowd here, but the two instructors - me and Four - and our friends were at the front of the crowd. "Probably mostly Dauntless-born. You're gonna have your hands full."

I shrug. "They're usually good at listening. Considering they're Dauntless." I add, wincing at the thought of how chaotic most of them were.

Henric checks his watch again. "They're coming!" he yells, and the crowd erupts into cheers. I wince. Even through my time at Dauntless, the four years since my initiation class, I still wasn't used to the loudness compared to my Amity home. I shake that thought off. I shouldn't care about my old home. After all, faction before blood.

Suddenly we hear bodies hitting the roof, and we hear a earsplitting scream, and other sounds that can only be called moans. I wince again.

"I guess that's our cue that they've arrived." Four says in his dark voice, and we move forward to the net to witness the first jumper of this class.

"I bet it's gonna be a Dauntless born," I say, smirking at Four. He fixes his stare at me. "We'll see," he says in his low and intimidating voice, a faint smile on his face. He was scary as fuck.

We hear Max's regular speech from below and then listen, bored, waiting for the jumper any second now.

Suddenly I spy a flash of gray, but I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. Abnegation never transfer to Dauntless. that's absurd. It's probably a trick of light on black.

I rub my eyes but my eyes aren't playing tricks. I hear Ava and Zeke gasp from behind me.

"A Abnegation transfer. Unheard of." Henric murmurs and I can't tell if I'm imagining it, but I see a flicker of emotion dance across Four's poker face.

We all reach for the girl, I realize, who crashes into the net. Without looking, she grabs Four's hand from the mess. He helps her out of the net. I guess she's his initiate.

"Thank you," she says to Four, but her eyes are all over the place, widened with excitement.

"Can't believe it," I say, smirking. "A Stiff, the first to jump? Unbelievable." I was still having a hard time to believe it. I haven't seen a Abnegation transfer since...I don't remember. I shake that thought off.

"There's a reason why she left them, Lauren." Four says, glancing at me. I smirk back at him. "What's your name?" he adds, turning to face the Abnegation girl again.

She hesitates.

"Think about it, you don't get to pick again." Four adds, his faint smile on his lips.

"Tris." She says firmly. I feel my lips curl up. "Tris. Make the announcement Four!" I yell, grinning.

He cups his hands around his mouth. "First jumper, Tris!" he shouts. There's stomping and cheering and loud sounds. I glance at Tris's face. She looks overwhelmed. I'm still surprised by a Abnegation transfer and being the first jumper. She's clearly unique. I might need to keep an eye on her.

I turn back to the net just as screams echo through and a drop of black and white follows. Surprisingly, it is another transfer.

Soon enough it's time for me and Four to split up. I glance at him, making sure he was okay. Even though he was never my initiate, his instructor, Amar, worked with me. I could tell they were close.

He gives me a slight, imperceptible nod.

"This is where we divide," I say to all of them, raising my voice to be heard over the chaos of the Pit, my home.

"The Dauntless-born initiates are with me. I'm assuming you don't need a tour." I add with my signature smirk.

We break off from Four and his transfers, heading down the hallway. Poor Four was working with Eric this year. I felt bad for him, but slightly giddy. At least I wasn't stuck with Eric. That is like living hell.

We turn and stop in front of the Dauntless-born training room. "This is where we will meet everyday, 8 am sharp." I say, raising my voice. I notice two Dauntless borns whispering in the back. I march up to them. They don't notice me until I'm already directly in front of me.

"Your name?" I ask, icily. They exchange looks. They kinda look terrified. I guess I've been picking up on Four's intimidation. "Hailey and Grayson." They say.

"Well, I'm quite sure from being raised in Dauntless you're accustomed to talking all the time. However," I add, turning towards all of them. "I will not tolerate disrespect of any kind. If you do not listen to any rules, I will have no problem with kicking any of you out." I say, my gaze landing on each of them. Surprisingly, I spot Uriah, Zeke's little brother, and Lynn, Shauna's little sister. They had failed to mention to me that their little siblings were in my class this year. I see one initiate gulp.

"Some rules that we should go over." I say, returning to the front. "Training is from eight am sharp, all the way to six. If you do not arrive on time, I will make you factionless. There will be a break in between for lunch. You can do whatever you want after six, but you are expected back to your rooms at eleven, and lights will be out. Got it?"

I train my hard gaze over all of them. "Good. I'm sure you all are familiar with the dormitories where you will be staying. You are dismissed for dinner, and I will see you tomorrow."

They leave and immediately after I finish they erupt into excited chatter. "You forgot to mention the rankings." I hear a voice behind me. I don't need to turn around to know that it is Ava.

"It's fine. They'll find out soon enough from the rest of them." I say, turning around.

Ava raises her eyebrow at me, leaning against the door frame. "Wanna head to dinner?"

"Go ahead. I need to check on something." I follow her out the door and instead turn down the hallway to the Dauntless apartments. I enter mine and flick on the lights before sitting down at the table and turning on my computer.

I type in something and keep my eyes glued to the screen. "I've got to find the documents," I murmur under my breath as I type in another code. Erudite was smart, because the documents were incredibly well guarded. I didn't even notice the hidden folder on the control room until clearing out the data one day. While remotely accessing it, I discovered that someone else had recently secretly hacked into it, and after tracing it, I figured out it was Four. Why the hell he would be hiding it, I don't know, but I'm wary of what's hidden in there.

I type in the final code and then hold my breath as it loads.

Access Denied.

"Shit." I mutter. "How the fuck is Four better at hiding his tracks than me?"

"What did you say?" I gasp and turn around to find Four leaning against the wall, his arms crossed. I check the time. Dinner was over already. I glance at the door. It's swinging open. I'd forgotten to lock it after my haste.

"I knew I shouldn't have been talking out loud." I mutter under my breath. Clearly I shouldn't have said that because Four raises his eyebrow at me.

"I know what you're doing," Four says, glancing at my computer as I furiously tried to shut it down. He scowls and I scowl back at him.

"Why are you here?" I ask, willing my cheeks to stop turning red. I toss my head.

"I came to tell you about initiation and ask what we should teach tomorrow." he says. He nods towards the vague direction of my computer. "Clearly we have other things to discuss, such as invasion of privacy."

I snort. "There's nothing to discuss, Four. I was just reading on my computer. That's it."

He looks skeptical. I try to gauge his expression. His expression stayed passive, but was that fear in his eyes? He was scared of something. That's surprising, consider he only has four fears. I try to put the pieces together. He's scared of what I'm going to hack into. Now I'm confident. He has something to hide, and I'm going to discover what it is before he can delete it.

"Alright. I'm teaching the transfers guns and fighting tomorrow." he searches my face, and I will it to stay casual. I think he's better at reading faces than me because he sighs, dragging a hand down his face. My heart pounds as I lock eyes with him, and electricity and tension sizzles in the room, unspoken words that we can't say, because of the stupid, stupid leader and cameras watching us.

"Be careful, Lauren." he says quietly. "I know what you're up to. Don't deny it. But it's better for you to leave it be."

I can sense tension behind every word, but I can't figure out why. I nod at him. "See, and I thought I was the older one here." I say, trying to ease up the tension in the room. It doesn't work.

His expression doesn't change. "You have no idea what you're dealing with." he says. "This is bigger than your curiosity. It's bigger than all of us." He still seems wary but I nod quietly. I don't intend on stopping though. I intend on figuring out what he and the leaders were hiding.

He nods at me. "Be careful, Lauren. You have no idea what you're dealing with." he repeats, and he slips out of the room, as quietly as he entered.

I clutch my chest, just have been scared to death. I have no idea what to make of his warning. Me and Four were friends, but not as close as Zeke and Four were. I'm surprised he knew where I lived. But the biggest thing I was worried about was his warning.

Be careful, Lauren. You have no idea what you're dealing with.

The words echo through me, and I shudder. He must know something to be offering a warning like that. Something that I am so close to hacking into.

The file had caught my eye when I first discovered it, as it contained information from all the factions. That was immediately rare and suspicious; why would Dauntless have files to hack into all the factions?

I took a deep breath. I needed to hack into the files to figure out why the leaders had them; I was already wary of the leadership, especially after Eric had been appointed. Sometimes I wished that Four had taken the leadership position; according to rumors he had been offered it several times, but continuously denied it. It was another mystery.

I leaned back and yawn. I would figure out how to do this tomorrow. Right now, I needed sleep.

But his words still haunt me throughout the night.

You have no idea what you're dealing with.

pretty short chapters for this story; I'm pretty excited about this one. Depending on how popular it gets, if it doesn't get noticed, I'm probably going to end this after 20 - ish chapter. Oh well.

If you somehow stumbled across this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I would really appreciate it if you left a review, to let me know if you're interested in me continuing this. Thank you, and enjoy :3
