I was going over the calendar to see if there was anything planned for this month. All I saw scheduled was a pack bonfire at the end of the month.
Then today's date stuck out at me. June 11. My eyebrows knit together as I started counting.
Three weeks late. Could it be? I threw my jacket on and grabbed the keys to the rabbit.
After arriving at the store I went in and browsed the shelves, searching for the right thing. I grabbed three boxes off the shelf and made my way to the till. The lady rang the boxes through and looked at the ring on my hand. She smiled. "I hope all goes well," she said.
"Thank you," I replied.
At home it took me quite a while to work up the courage to take the tests. Come on Liana! You've been sitting here for half an hour! Jacob will be home this evening and will want food. Let's get this done.
The test said to wait for three minutes for the results. I set a timer and cleared the table off.
"Beep beep."
"Beep beep."
Shutting off the timer, I turned the test over.
Two lines.
Pregnant.
My hands drifted to my stomach. If the test was correct then I was about five or six weeks pregnant.
We're going to have a baby! A baby! Our own little boy or girl.
Jacob and I had talked about children before and we both wanted a few. He's going to be so happy. The reality of it all finally set in and I laughed with joy. The excitement was to great for me to sit around. I started making supper and planning how I was going to tell Jacob.
Familiar warm arms wrapped around my middle in a hug. Turning, I smiled and gave Jacob a long kiss.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"I love you." I responded.
He grinned and drew me back in for another kiss. Reluctantly I pulled back after a minute.
"The food's getting cold," I said.
"Mmm. I'm starving," he said excitedly.
I laughed. "You're always starving!"
"What's up with you?" Jacob asked as we did the dishes. "You've been smiling all evening."
"I have a surprise for you," I said.
He looked at me, one eyebrow raised.
I grinned and said nothing as I put away the last dishes.
"Ana, are you gonna tell me?" Jacob asked.
I made my way to the couch and sat down. He came and sat beside me and leaned back.
"You want to know?"
"Yes!" Jacob exclaimed.
"I have a present for our birthdays. It might get here a bit after though," I said.
"That's a long time to be planning a birthday present," he said. "There must be something else, or you wouldn't have told me."
"You're right. There is something else. You get to know what the present is now," I smiled. The anticipation was killing me and I couldn't stop smiling.
"Well, what is it?!"
I leaned against him and glanced up. "I'm pregnant," I whispered.
Jacob froze, staring blankly at me.
"What did you say?"
I laughed, "I'm pregnant! I know you heard me with that wolfy hearing of yours."
"Pregnant?" Jacob breathed.
"Yes, we're having a baby!" I exclaimed. It seemed to take him a moment to absorb the information.
"This is amazing!" Jacob leaped up and spun me around. "When did you find out?"
"Just this afternoon. I figure I am about six weeks along." I said.
"I love you. So, so much," Jacob said, planting kisses all over my face.
"I love you too."
We lay on the couch for a long time talking about the baby.
"You know, the baby will probably end up phasing if he is a boy," Jake said.
"Would you rather it be a boy or a girl?" I asked.
"I would be happy with either, but a boy would be nice," he replied.
"I think it would be nice if we had a boy. I always wanted an older brother," I said. "A little mini you running around, it would be so cute."
"Or it could be a girl and we would have a mini you running around," Jacob said.
"Either way, I will be happy with whichever one it is," I said.
"Can I brush your hair?" Jacob asked as we got ready for bed.
"Sure,"
We sat on the bed as Jacob slowly and carefully drew the brush through my hair. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back.
"When are we going to tell everyone?" I asked, eyes still closed.
The brush stopped.
"You know how the pack mind works, it will be really tough to keep it from them for long. You probably want to tell your dad and Sue first anyway," Jacob said.
"I would like that, but it would be nice to keep it to ourselves for a while," I said.
The brushing continued.
"We should be okay for a couple of days, but after that I'm not sure," Jacob said. "Anyway, let's not think of that now. We should be celebrating! A baby of our own! One that we made!" He exclaimed and carefully grabbed me into a hug again.
"This will be a very interesting seven months," I commented.
