A/N: Title comes from Where We Belong

There is a tree that spans all worlds. Its leaves, roots, branches, and buds all contain countless worlds. And so, in time, in one of those worlds a little girl is born. Her eyes were a beautiful silver, so fair to look upon that many wanted her for their bride. But the girl spurns them all, though not unkindly. Some claim it's because she's too dedicated to the life of an adventurer to settle down, but there are holes in this theory. First and foremost, her sister and her bride are in the girl's guild. She knows full well that if she desired to marry, it would not impede her questing in the slightest. The truth of the matter is far more complicated.

Ever since she was young, she's dreamed of a boy with hazel eyes and freckles. But these aren't normal dreams. They're as real as her waking life, and over time of their many years of friendship in their dreams the silver-eyed adventurer has come to the realization that he is the only one for her. But no matter who she asks, or what she researches, she can never find a way to reach him. Eventually an old wizard tells her what she seeks to know. "Your fated one is from another world, far from here," he says, gazing into the crystal that foretells her fate. "If you climb to the highest peak and plead your case to the tree, it might see fit to bring you to your beloved."

She pays him for his service, and leaves. It's not much, but it's the first lead she's had in her life. In their dreams that night, she tells him what she's learned. He brings her hand to his lips, and kisses. Sparks of wildfire dance across her skin. "We'll finally be together outside of our dreams," he says, awed. The smile on his face is the most beautiful things she's ever seen.

"I can't wait to explore your world with you," the silver-eyed adventurer says. "We won't be limited to whatever this is, anymore."

When she awakes in the morning she climbs and climbs. At the mountain's highest peak, she pleads with the tree. "Please," she entreats, "we must've been bound for a reason. Let me be with him."

For a moment, there's no response, and the silver-eyed adventurer worries the tree has refused her request. But then the world dissolves into a void filled with strange lights. The silver-eyed adventurer takes in the impossible sight for a moment, but just as quickly as it appeared it is gone. And then, there he is. There's a split second of hesitation, and then they're embracing tightly. And to the depths of her soul, she knows this is where she's meant to be.
