A/N: The majority of this is set in the missing day in the Stratford Tower chapter.
November 7th 2038…
Riverside Park was quiet aside from the music blaring from the car that stood out vividly in Detroit… and Connor got out, moving the seat forward to help Leah out of the car before she moved the seat back.
Connor closed the passenger door and he and Leah walked to Hank.
"Nice view, huh? I used to come here a lot before…" Hank replied before he trailed off.
"Can I ask you a personal question, Lieutenant?" Connor responded before Hank looked at him.
"Do all androids ask so many personal questions or is it just you?" Hank asked.
"I saw a photo of a child on your kitchen table. It was your son, right?" Connor responded, Hank taken aback by that.
"Yeah… his name was Cole." Hank replied sadly.
"It's late. We should go home." Leah responded.
"I'm not tired, Babydoll… guess neither is Connor but you definitely are." Hank replied before Connor and Leah walked towards the railing and Leah readjusted her hooded oversized wool coat to keep herself warm.
Leah wanted nothing more than to be asleep in her bed right now, to wake up in the morning with a refreshed mindset… but her mind just wouldn't stop going back to the chaos from the Eden Club.
Connor rested his left hand on her right shoulder before he lightly rubbed it.
"We're not making any progress on this investigation… the deviants have nothing in common. They're all different models, produced at different times, in different places?" Connor responded.
"We've gone over everything from each case… what are we missing?" Leah replied.
"Well, there must be some link. You two are working way too hard on this investigation to think clearly." Hank responded before Leah and Connor looked at each other.
"What they have in common is this obsession with rA9." Connor replied before he and Leah turned to Hank. "It's almost like some kind of... myth. Something they invented that wasn't part of their original program."
"Androids believing in God. Fuck, what's this world coming to?" Hank responded before he took another swig of his beer.
"You want to talk about what happened back at the Eden Club? Would be better than getting drunk." Leah replied, Hank setting the half empty beer down.
"Kid, those two girls… they just wanted to be together. They really seemed… in love." Hank explained, Connor lightly resting his right hand on Leah's upper back for a few seconds before he held her left hand in his right one.
She wasn't sure whether he was subconsciously breaking his programming by touching her or if he knew what he was doing… but it felt comforting to her.
"You seem troubled, Lieutenant. I didn't think machines could have such an effect on you." Connor responded to Hank, who stood up.
"What about you, Connor?" Hank asked as he walked over and stopped about a foot away. "You look human, you sound human, but what are you really?"
Connor's LED changed to yellow as he wanted to remain neutral, trying to think of what to say so he wouldn't set Hank off.
But what had left his mouth was…
"You know exactly who I am! In any case, I don't see how that's relevant to the investigation!" Connor responded, Leah completely taken aback by that.
"You could've shot those two girls, but you didn't. Why didn't you shoot, Connor?" Hank replied, shoving Connor a bit to try to bait him into a fight. "Some scruples suddenly enter into your program?"
"What reason would I have for killing them? What would that accomplish?" Connor asked.
Leah knew that he was thinking of himself as human now… but what happened next completely startled her.
Connor pulled her behind him as Hank pulled his revolver out of his jacket, aiming it at Connor.
"Are you afraid to die, Connor?" Hank questioned.
"I would certainly find it regrettable to be... interrupted, before I can finish this investigation." Connor responded, lightly rubbing Leah's right hip to calm her rapid breathing.
"What will happen if I pull this trigger? Hm? Nothing? Oblivion? Android heaven?" Hank replied.
"Put it down… you're scaring her." Connor responded before Hank saw Leah.
"Hank… just put the gun away. Please… I don't want him to die." Leah replied, her voice shaking as she looked right at Hank.
Hank lowered his gun and put it away before he turned away and set the car keys on the bench.
"Where are you going?" Connor asked as Hank opened another beer.
"To get drunker! I need to think." Hank responded before he left.
Connor turned around before he pulled Leah into his arms and they held each other… and Connor could hear her struggling to breathe.
He lightly rubbed his right hand up and down her back before they looked at each other and his hand rested on her lower back.
Leah stood up on her tiptoes and leaned in before they kissed, Connor cradling the back of her head with his left hand as her hands rested on his back…
Present time…
Connor slowly opened his eyes and looked around in confusion as sunlight fluttered through the blue curtains.
Through his blurry vision, he saw his clothes neatly folded in a nearby chair before he realized he was in Leah's bed and that he was holding her.
She was in a pair of pajamas whereas he was in his boxers… he didn't need to keep himself warm by wearing pajamas like a human would, his temperature sensitivity setting helped to keep his body temperature stable.
But even through the bedding and her pajamas, Leah was shivering.
Careful to not wake her, Connor pulled her closer to him and Leah slowly stopped shivering as Connor readjusted the covers… and he heard her phone chime before he picked it up, seeing a text from Fowler.
'You were struggling to stay awake yesterday and the day before that. You're taking the day off, kid, I can't risk you losing consciousness on the job.'
Leah sleepily opened her eyes after rubbing them before she and Connor kissed and he carefully placed her phone in her hands so Leah could see the text.
'Don't let anyone slack off, okay?' Leah responded.
'I won't, kid.'
Leah set her phone down and she and Connor kissed again, Leah resting her head on his torso and hearing his heart beating as his left hand rubbed up and down her back as her left hand rested on his right shoulder.
She buried her face into the crook of his neck and kissed it, Connor smiling as his eyes briefly closed.
'If there's a heaven for androids… I'd want her there with me.' Connor thought as they settled back into sleep.
His doubts would still be there when they would wake up again… but he didn't want to deal with them now.
