At the Pokémon Center, Serena was drinking a cup of tea while Fennekin was eating. "So nice." said Serena after taking a sip. "No early Rhyhorn Race practice for me. And no Fletchling waking me up. Such a relaxing way to start the day."
Fennekin looked up to see Serena stretching and starts to copy her. "Fennekin!" it said, stretching its forelegs when it fell back onto its tail.
"Fennekin, did you get enough?" Serena asked, giggling.
"Fennekin." Fennekin said, nodding.
"I did, too!" said Serena, getting up from the table. "Okay!
"Kin."
"Thank you for everything!" Serena said to Nurse Joy and Wigglytuff.
"Fenne!" added Fennekin.
"Let's go!" said Serena as she and Fennekin took off. "Santalune City's really close! Just a little bit further and I'll finally get to see them!"
"Fenne…" said Fennekin.
Narrator: Our heroes have arrived in Santalune City and soon Ash will be challenging his first Gym in the Kalos region.
Jordan: That's if he ever stops dragging me by the hand!
Narrator: Oh no!
Meeko: Lucar!
"Yeah! Santalune Gym, you'd better look out!" said Ash. "I'm gonna get my first Kalos badge from you!"
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Slow down or you'll pull my arm out of its socket!" said Jordan as Meeko ran behind them.
"Cari!" shouted Meeko.
"Come on, guys, can't you slow down a little?" asked Clemont, then fell forward.
"Hey, Clemont, hurry up!" said Ash, calling over his shoulder as he still had a grip on Jordan.
"One thing, and I think it's kind of important." Clemont said from the ground. "Do you have any idea where the Santalune Gym might be located?"
"No clue…of course I don't." said Ash.
"Denne." said Dedenne.
"Typical Ash." said Jordan. "He's my brother and I gotta love him."
"I figure stuff out best when I run!" said Ash. "Keep moving ahead and you can't go wrong! That's the way we roll."
"Pikachu." said Pikachu.
"You also can't forget that you can't be dragging your sister like this when youre rushing through the city." said Jordan, massaging her shoulder. "You're lucky my shoulder's okay."
"Oh yeah." Ash chuckled in embarrassment.
*WHACK*
"Ow!" groaned Ash causing Clemont and Bonnie to widen in shock.
"Lucar, Lucar." said Lucario, hitting Ash on the head.
"Next time I'm telling mom that you dragging me by the arm while running." said Jordan.
"Sorry about that." he said to his sister.
"I know, I know, you always are." said Jordan, pulling him up. Just then, someone took a picture of Ash, Pikachu, Jordan and Meeko.
"Pika? Cario?" asked Pikachu and Meeko.
"Thanks so much for the great pic!" said a woman who took the photo. "The four of you seem to have the makings of a great team."
"Hey thanks." said Ash. "Pikachu's my partner."
"Pikachu!"
"Thank you." said Jordan. "Meeko is my partner."
"Lucario!"
"FYI, if you're going to the Santalune Gym, make a right at that corner." the photographer said, giving the quartet directions.
"Yeah?! Awesome!" said Ash. "Thanks for the info."
"You've just made my brother's day." said Jordan.
"I told you we can't go wrong." Ash said to Clemont. "Let's move, Pikachu, Jordan and Meeko."
"Pika!"
"I'll race you!" said Jordan.
"Lucar."
"Ash, not so fast!" said Clemont.
"Hey, wait up!" said Bonnie.
"Th-thank you for your assistance." said Clemont, bowing before taking off. The photographer smiled and laughed as she watched them head to the Gym.
"Wow, we made it." said Ash as they stood outside of the gym.
"Now, if I remember my facts correctly, the Santalune Gym Leader specializes in Bug-Type Pokémon." said Clemont.
"Cool." said Jordan.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"I can't wait to go inside, it's gonna be fun!" said Bonnie.
"Denne, Dede." said Dedenne.
"Hello in there!" Ash called out as they walked inside. "I wanna challenge you to a battle!"
"He really wants a badge!" said Jordan. Just as the doors opened, a familiar Pokémon pops out.
"He!" said Helioptile, landing on Ash's face, knocking him down. "Hel, Helioptile."
"It's Helioptile!" said Ash.
"And it knocked you down." said Jordan.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"Welcome, Ash, Pikachu, Jordan and Meeko…" said Alexa as Helioptile scurried up her body. "It's nice to see the four of you again!"
"Hi Alexa! Lucar!" said Jordan and Meeko.
"Hey, Alexa, I didn't know you were here." said Ash.
"Uh huh. I finished up my reporting and thought you'd be here soon, so I waited." she told him. "So, are these your new friends?"
"Yep! We met them in Lumiose City." said Ash.
"Hi, Alexa! My name's Bonnie." said Bonnie, introducing herself. "And this is Dedenne."
"Denne, Denne." said Dedenne.
"And this is my brother!" Bonnie added.
"I'm Clemont. It's nice to meet you." he said, then walked over to Ash and Jordan. "That's amazing. You already knew the Gym Leader."
"She's not the leader." said Ash. "See, Alexa's actually a Pokémon journalist."
"That's right." said Alexa. "The Gym Leader's my younger sister, Viola."
"Viola?" asked Jordan and Bonnie.
"That's me!" said Viola, walking up behind the quartet. "Nice to see you again."
"You mean you're Alexa's sister?" asked Ash.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"I thought she was just a random photographer." said Jordan.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"Oh, so I take it you've already met one another?" asked Alexa.
"Right! At the fountain." said Viola. "I took a picture of Pikachu, Ash, Meeko and Jordan. Alexa said you wanted to challenge me while I was gone, Ash."
"I still do…how about it?" asked Ash.
"Sure! Please, come inside!" said Viola.
"Wow, you took all of these pictures, Viola?" asked Ash, once they were inside the Gym.
"Uh-huh, although, these are just a few of the pictures I've taken." she tells him.
"She's got quite a talent for photographing Bug Types!" said Alexa. "She even helps me out with my reporting from time to time."
"This is great work!" said Clemont. "It really captures the love you have for your subjects."
"Sure does." said Bonnie. "You can see how much you care about Bug types!"
"Dede."
"I like this one of the Beautifly." said Jordan.
"Lucario!" said Meeko.
"I know! Viola, you're a keeper!" said Bonnie. "I mean, please take care of my brother!"
"Denne."
"Uh…." said Viola.
"We're a little bit…confused." said Alexa.
"Pika? Cario?" asked Pikachu and Meeko.
"That's a new one." said Jordan.
"Bonnie, I told you to stop this a million times!" Clemont said to his sister.
"You know you need somebody to take care of you!" said Bonnie.
"I think Viola would make you a nice wife." said Bonnie, not hearing what Jordan and Ash were saying.
"A nice wife?" asked Viola.
"No…this is so embarrassing!" yelled Clemont. "Activating Aipom Arm!"
Aipom Arm grabs Bonnie by her bag strap and pulls her back. "Would you please just mind your own business?" Clemont asked his sister, dragging her away.
"I hope you'll think about it, Viola?!" said Bonnie.
"Uh…."
"Such a unique little girl." said Alexa.
"Jordan..?" asked Ash.
"Yes, Ash?" said Jordan.
"You'll never do this to me, right?" he asked.
"In public? Never in a million years. If I do, Pikachu would have to shock me and Meeko would have to hold me down." said Jordan, then looked up at her brother. "I would rather embarrassing stories about you to any girl that you've brought home than do that in a public setting."
"And tell her the crazy antics you've done." said Meeko.
"Good." said Ash.
"Just promise me that any boy I bring home gets to battle you and Pikachu." said Jordan.
"You know me so well." said Ash.
"That I do." she added.
"So, shall we, Ash?" asked Viola. "How about that battle?"
"Great!" said Ash.
"Pika!" said Pikachu.
"They're gonna be so surprised after all this time!" said Serena, finally arriving in Santalune City. "I wonder how they'll both react when they see me? I can't wait to find out."
"The Gym Battle between Ash, the challenger, and Viola, the Santalune Gym Leader, will now begin!" said the Santalune Referee. "Each side will have the use of two Pokémon and the battle will be over when either Trainer's Pokémon ae unable to continue! Only the challenger may substitute Pokémon!"
"My lens is always focused on victory no matter what!" said Viola, holding out her first Pokémon. "Surskit, go!"
"Surskit!" said Surskit.
"A Surskit, huh?" asked Ash.
"Surskit, the Pond Skater Pokémon. Surskit can walk on water as if it was skating. It attracts prey with the sweet aroma it produces." said Dexter.
"My first Kalos Gym Battle." said Ash, picking his first Pokémon. "And I'm gonna start it off with Pikachu!"
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"You got this, Pikachu!" Jordan shouted.
"Lucari!" added Meeko.
"Ash is using Pikachu!" said Bonnie.
"That's because Pikachu's got a big advantage over Surskit, who's a bug and water type." said Clemont.
"Now, battle begin!" said the referee.
"Pikachu, let's start this with Quick Attack!" shouted Ash.
"Pikachu!" shouted Pikachu, using Quick Attack. "Pik, Pik, Pik!"
"Quick, Surskit, use Protect!" said Viola.
"Sur!" said Surskit, creating a barrier.
"Pika!" said Pikachu, hitting Surskit's Protect. "Pika!"
"Go around Surskit and use Iron Tail!" shouted Ash.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu ran around the field. "Pika!"
"Surskit, dodge it!" said Viola.
"Pika, Pika!" said Pikachu as he appears behind Surskit, using Iron Tail.
"Surskit!" shouted Surskit, dodging Pikachu's attack.
"Pika?" asked Pikachu.
"Surskit!" Surskit said, sliding past Pikachu.
"Focus, Pikachu!" Ash tells him. "Use Electro Ball and stop Surskit."
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said in agreement, then forms a ball of electricity at his tail and aims it at Surskit. "Pika, Chu, Pi!"
"Surskit, use Ice Beam!" said Viola.
"Surskit!" shouted Surskit, firing Ice Beam from its head and caused an explosion.
"Dedenne." said Dedenne.
"My sister's very strong." said Alexa.
"Huh?" said Clemont.
"Defeating her is no easy task!" she said.
"Tile!" said Helioptile.
"My brother's creative to a boot." said Jordan.
"Oh." said Bonnie.
"He'll think of something." she added.
"Lucari." said Meeko.
"This is where it begins." said Viola. "Use Ice Beam on the field!"
"Surskit!" shouted Surskit, aiming its Ice Beam onto the field.
"Pi, Pi, Pi, Pi!" said Pikachu, backing up as Ice Beam hits the ground all around him. "Pika! Pi…" The ice was closing in on him and Ash gasp at this.
"The battlefield's frozen!" said Bonnie.
"Dedenne!" said Dedenne.
"Pikachu…Pi, Pi, Pika!" said Pikachu, his feet slipping on the ice as he tries to keep his balance until he falls onto his back.
"Pikachu, get up quick!" said Ash.
"Pika, Pika…" Pikachu said.
"Our ice battlefield's picture perfect." said Viola. "Surskit, let's go!"
"Surskit!"
"Pikachu!"
Surskit glided on the ice, making circles around Pikachu. "Pi, Pi…" said Pikachu as he slid over to the edge.
"Hang in there…use Iron Tail!" said Ash.
"Pika!" said Pikachu, using Iron Tail. "Chu!"
"Surskit!"
"Pika!"
Pikachu knocks Surskit back in a circle with Iron Tail. "Pull it together, Surskit, and use Ice Beam!" said Viola.
"Surskit!" said Surskit, aiming another Ice Beam.
"Now, Pikachu, use Thunderbolt." said Ash.
"Pi! Pikachu!" shouted Pikachu, using Thunderbolt to stop Ice Beam. "Pika! Pi!"
"Pikachu, no!" shouted Ash.
"Yes!" said Viola. "Now use your picture-perfect Signal Beam!"
"Skit!" screamed Surskit, aiming Signal Beam at Pikachu.
"Pikachu!" shouted Ash and Jordan.
"Lucario!" said Meeko.
"Pika, Pi…" said Pikachu, knocked back against the ice and fainted. "Pika…"
"Pikachu is unable to battle. Surskit wins." said the referee.
"Pikachu!" said Ash, running over to pick up Pikachu. "You okay? Pikachu…"
"Pi." Pikachu tells him. "Pika, Pikachu."
"You were great out there." said Ash. "Thanks buddy."
"You did your best, Pikachu." said Jordan, appearing at her brother's side. "I'm proud of you."
"Lucar." said Meeko.
"You trained Pikachu quite well, but it still has a long way to go before it can beat my Surskit." said Viola.
"I'll beat it now. With this Pokémon!" said Ash. "Fletchling, let's go!"
"Chling!" chirped Fletchling.
"Wow, Fletchling'll be great!" said Bonnie. "It can attack from above so the frozen ground won't do a thing!"
"A flying type like Fletchling has an advantage over Surskit, too!" said Clemont.
Unknown to everyone, Serena entered the Gym. "Uh…" she said, then sees Ash on the battlefield with Jordan and Meeko sitting on the sideline walls while the former held Pikachu in her lap.
"There they are…Its Ash and Jordan!" thought Serena. She lightly laughs as she runs over.
"Can I help you?" Alexa asked, seeing Serena.
"I was kind of wondering if it would be okay if I watched then battle?" Serena asked.
"Of course, that would be fine, welcome." said Alexa.
"Why don't you join us over here?" asked Clemont.
"Yeah! It's getting real good!" said Bonnie.
"That's so nice of you, thanks!" said Serena.
"Okay, Fletchling, Peck, lets go!" shouted Ash.
"Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling…" said Fletchling, flying high before diving to use Peck on Surskit. "Ling!"
"Quick, dodge it!" said Viola.
"Sur!" said Surskit, dodging Fletchling's Peck.
"Now, use Ice Beam!" said Viola as Fletchling goes in for another round.
"Surskit!" said Surskit, aiming Ice Beam at Fletchling.
"Dodge it!" said Ash.
"Ling, Ling, Ling!" said Fletchling, going around the Ice Beam.
"Awesome!" said Serena.
"Yeah…go for it, Fletchling!" said Bonnie.
"Go Fletchling!" said Jordan.
"Surskit, Sticky Web, go!" shouted Viola.
"Fletchling, Double Team!" shouted Ash.
"Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling!" chirped Fletchling, creating illusions in the air.
"Lucar?" Meeko asked Jordan, pointing to Fletchling.
"We could work on that." said Jordan.
"Sur, Sur, Sur, Sur…." said Surskit, firing Sticky Web.
"Ling, Ling, Ling!" said Fletchling, dodging the attack as Sticky Web hits the Gym's ceiling.
"Sur, Sur, Sur, Sur, Sur, Sur, Sur…." shouted Surskit.
"Fletchling!" squealed Fletchling.
"It dodged everything!" said Clemont.
"All right, attack, attack, attack, attack!" cheered Bonnie.
"Now, Fletchling, use Razor Wind!" said Ash.
"Fletchling!" said Fletchling as its wings glowed and sends several moon-like blades of wind towards Surskit.
"Surskit!" said Surskit, scared as Razor Wind hits it and Viola gasps. "Surskit…"
"Surskit is unable to battle!" said the referee. "Fletchling wins!"
"All right!" said Ash.
"Yay! Go Fletchling!" said Jordan.
"Lucario!" said Meeko.
"Chling, Ling!" said Fletchling, circling overhead. "Fletchling, Fletchling!"
"All right!" shouted Clemont, Bonnie and Serena.
"Did you see how totally awesome Ash battles?" asked Bonnie.
"I sure did!" said Serena.
"You should see how Jordan battles." Bonnie tells her.
"Now both sides have one Pokémon left!" said Clemont. "Ash just might win this!"
"You got this, Ash! You can do it!" said Jordan.
"Surskit, you were great." said Viola, recalling Surskit. "You deserve a good rest."
"Time to beat your other Pokémon. And get my hands on my first Kalos Gym Badge!" said Ash.
"Its not going to be that easy." Viola said. "My Gym Leader pride's on the line! Let's do this, Vivillon!"
"Vivillon!" it said, appearing on the field and taking flight.
"Who's that Pokémon?" asked Ash, as Jordan tilts her head with Meeko.
"Vivillon, the scale Pokémon. Vivillon are skillfully able to find a source of water. It has been said that you'll find a spring if you follow a Vivillon." said Dexter.
"Cool. Cario." said Jordan and Meeko.
"All right, Fletchling, Peck!" said Ash.
"Chling!" said Fletchling, going to attack with Peck. "Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling, Ling!"
"See, flying type moves are super effective against Vivillon!" said Clemont.
"Fletch!"
"Vivillon, use Psychic!" said Viola.
"Vivillon!" it said, eyes glowing blue as it uses Psychic.
"Ling, Ling, Ling!" screeched Fletchling as it was stopped in its tracks.
"What happened?" asked Ash.
"Since I made an ice battlefield, I want you to experience what its all about!" said Viola.
"Chling, Ling, Ling, Ling!" said Fletchling as it was thrown about in the air.
"Fletchling!" shouted Ash as it was knocked to the ground. "Fletchling, are you okay? Can you still fly?"
"Fletch, Fletch, Fletchling!" it tells Ash.
"All right!" said Ash.
"Use Gust!" said Viola.
"Vivillon!" said Vivillon, flapping its wings hard, creating a gust of wind. Fletchling gets knocked back in the air and gets stuck on Surskit's web.
"Fletchling!" Ash cried out.
"No!" said Jordan.
"Its stuck in that Sticky Web!" said Clemont.
"Oh no!" said Serena.
"Break free! You can do it, Fletchling!" said Ash.
"Fletchling!" it said, pulling its wings out of Sticky Web.
"A picture-perfect opportunity." said Viola. "Vivillon, Solar Beam!"
"Vivillon!" said Vivillon, gathering sun light. "Vivillon!"
It then fires a beam from its mouth, right at Fletchling. "Oh no, Fletchling!" said Ash.
"Fletchling!" cried Fletchling as it fell towards the ground.
"Fletchling!" shouted Ash.
"Fletchling…" said Fletchling, fainting on the spot.
"Fletchling is unable to battle!" said the referee. "Vivillon wins, which means the victor is Viola, the Gym Leader!"
"Thanks a lot, Vivillon." said Viola, returning her Pokémon to its Pokéball.
"Looks like we're gonna have to go back to square one." said Jordan.
"Lucar?" asked Meeko.
"Don't either of you remember what happened the very first time Ash lost?" asked Jordan.
"Oh yeah…I remember now." said Meeko as Pikachu nodded. "It wasn't pretty."
"Yeah…" said Jordan, then lowers her voice. "We don't need another Gym burning on our account."
"Fletchling!" shouted Ash, running over to the tiny Robin. "Are you okay?"
"Ling!" it replied.
"Ash!" shouted Bonnie as she, Jordan and Clemont ran over to him.
"We need to get to them both Pokémon center." said Clemont as Jordan held Pikachu in her hands. "I'm afraid that battle put them through a lot!"
"Fletch…"
"Pi, Pika."
"I know I lost." Ash said to Viola. "But I'll come back here stronger! When I do, I hope you'll let me have a rematch."
"I'll be looking forward to it." said Viola. "Come back anytime."
"Lets go!" said Ash.
"You got it, Ashy." said Jordan, holding Pikachu close. "Don't worry, Pikachu. You'll feel better soon."
As the quartet heads out the gym, they ran past Serena. Thinking about her next move, Serena sees Ash and Jordan's backpacks. "Are those…" she started to asked.
"Nurse Joy, please take care of my Pokémon!" said Ash as they arrived at the Pokémon center.
"Wigglytuff, Wigglytuff." Wigglytuff said, taking Pikachu and Fletchling back.
"Don't worry, Ash." said Nurse Joy. "They'll be all better in no time."
"So that's the photo you took of when they were on their way here?" asked Alexa.
"That's right! Isn't that a great shot?" asked Viola.
"Excellent." Alexa tells her sister. "You can really pick up the powerful bond Ash, Pikachu, Jordan and Meeko have with each other."
"Helioptile." said Helioptile.
"You're right, although….Ash and Pikachu's battle wasn't all that powerful." said Viola.
"Don't underestimate them." said Alexa. "Especially Jordan and Meeko. They're very protective of Ash and Pikachu. I wouldn't be surprised if things are quite different the next time you battle him. That's the kind of Trainer Ash is and the kind Jordan is aspiring to be. I think I'm going out for a little while."
"Tile!" said Helioptile.
"But where are you going?" Viola asked. "Huh?"
Outside of the Pokémon center, Clemont, Bonnie and Dedenne were at a table while Jordan and Meeko sit on the ground, meditating in front of Ash. "Here, eat up!" Bonnie said to Dedenne, handing it a piece of Pokémon food. "Oh Dedenne, you're such a cutie pie!"
"It must've been really hungry!" said Clemont. He then looks over his shoulder to see Ash, Jordan and Meeko.
"Viola totally beat me." Ash thought. "Man, is she strong." He then remembers how fast her Surskit was on the ice and how powerful her Vivillon was against Pikachu and Fletchling. He then balls up his fist.
Entering the battlefield of the Pokémon center, Serena held Ash and Jordan's backpacks in her arms. "Uh…" said Serena.
"Lucar." said Meeko, sensing an unknown aura.
"Pikachu and Fletchling weren't able to show their strengths at all." thought Ash. "If that's the way it's gonna be, I cant win, no matter how many times I try. What do I do?"
"Ashy?" asked Jordan, causing the eldest Ketchum to look at his sister. "Do you need a hug?"
"Always, baby sister." said Ash, accepting the hug from her.
"Pikachu and Fletchling will be ok." Jordan tells him. "You're just gonna to battle a little harder the next time you challenge the Santalune Gym."
"You mean?" he asked.
"You know it!" she said, smiling. "Its time for some brother and sister battles."
He then returned her smile, unknown that Serena was standing behind Jordan. "Uh…" Serena said, causing both siblings to gasp with the youngest turning around. "Excuse me, I think these are yours."
"Huh? I guess we forgot them. Hey, thanks a lot." said Ash, taking both backpacks and handing Jordan hers.
"Wow, you're that girl from before!" said Bonnie, walking up with Clemont.
"Before?" asked Ash.
"She was standing with us during your battle." said Clemont.
"How could I have missed seeing her standing with us?" asked Jordan as Meeko shrugs.
"My name's Bonnie, and this is my big brother!" said Bonnie, introducing herself.
"I'm Clemont." he said.
"And say help to Dedenne." said Bonnie.
"Dedenne!" it said.
"Nice to meet you!" said Serena.
"What do you know? Sorry, I was so busy battling, I didn't see you there." said Ash.
"I guess I was really engaged in Ash's battle to not notice." said Jordan.
"Oh, that's okay." said Serena.
"My name's Ash and this is my sister, Jordan." said Ash.
"Yeah, I know." said Serena. "Serena's my name. Do you both remember…" Just as she was about to ask, the chimes sounded.
"Thank you for waiting." said Nurse Joy with Pikachu and Fletchling standing in front of her. "Your Pikachu and Fletchling are now fully recovered and feeling fine!"
"Ling! Pika!" said Pikachu and Fletchling.
"Pika, Pika!" said Pikachu, jumping into Ash's arms and getting a head scratch from Jordan.
"Fletch!" said Fletchling, landing on Ash's shoulders.
"That's great, thank you, Nurse Joy!" said Ash.
"Its my pleasure." she said.
"Wigglytuff!" said Wigglytuff.
"Fletchling and Pikachu? This is Serena." said Ash, introducing them to Serena. "She was with Clemont, Bonnie and Jordan watching us battle."
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu said.
"Fletch, Fletch, Fletching." said Fletchling.
"Hi, you two, nice to meet you." said Serena. "I just realized something. Nurse Joy, how did you get to the Pokémon Center from Route 4 without passing me?"
"But is that the Nurse Joy you met on Route 4?" Ash asked, giving his sister and Nurse Joy a knowing smile.
"Couldn't be. I would think the Nurse Joy you met on Route 4 was my cousin." said Nurse Joy.
"Your cousin?" asked Serena.
"I knew it." said Ash.
"Here's a photo of me and my cousins during the Kalos region's nursing workshop." said Nurse Joy, showing them her and her cousins.
"Wow, it's the same in Kalos too." said Ash.
"Incredible." said Serena.
"Yeah, only the ones we've met are not only cousins, but sisters too." said Jordan.
"What do you mean?" asked Bonnie.
"Here's a little-known secret that Ash and I picked up on our journey." said Jordan. "No matter what region you're travelling in, there's always a set of Officer Jennys and set of Nurse Joys that are related together."
"Really?" asked a shocked Clemont, Serena and Bonnie.
"It's weird, we know." said Ash.
"But it comes with being on a Pokémon journey." said Jordan.
"Cari?" Meeko asked, walking up to Jordan's side.
"This is Serena, Meeko." said Jordan. "Serena, this is Meeko."
"Nice to meet you, Meeko." said Serena, smiling.
Meeko walks around Serena, sensing her aura then did something better. She then pulls Serena in for a hug, with a smile on her face. "Lucario!" said Meeko.
"She really likes you, Serena." said Jordan.
"Lucario, Lucario." cooed Meeko, rocking side to side with Serena in her arms.
"Oh, right! I was hoping you'd look at my Pokémon, too." said Serena, releasing Fennekin.
"Fennekin!" it said.
"Whoa…never seen that Pokémon." said Ash.
"Its cute! Lucario!" said Jordan and Meeko.
"Fennekin, the fox Pokémon." said Dexter. "Fennekin expels hot air that can reach nearly 400 degrees. It likes to snack on twigs."
"Kin!" said Fennekin, sneezing out some embers at Bonnie, Jordan, Meeko and Serena.
"I guess it's a fire type Pokémon, right?" asked Ash.
"And it's so cute!" said Bonnie.
"I would love to hold it." said Jordan.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"Yeah, I got it from Professor Sycamore." said Serena.
"Professor Sycamore, huh?" asked Ash.
"You see, Fennekin is one of the three Pokémon that new trainers may choose from." said Clemont. "Therefore, I can deduce that you and Jordan are new trainers."
"Right!" said Serena. "I just started my journey."
"I'll be glad to look at Fennekin." said Nurse Joy. "Please wait right here while I perform a through exam!"
"Wigglytuff!"
"Thank you, Nurse Joy." said Serena.
"Ash? Jordan?" Alexa called out.
"Huh?"
"Alexa!" said Ash and Jordan.
"It looks like Pikachu and Fletchling are fully recovered." she said, carrying a Pokémon egg in her arms. "Let me guess: you're going to start training right away!"
"Of course I am!" said Ash. "You wanna help me out with Jordan?"
"Pika, Pikachu?" asked Pikachu. Once on the field, Alexa had handed Jordan the Pokémon egg before facing Ash.
"You see, Noivern can use Gust too!" said Alexa. "Noivern, lets go!"
"Noivern, Noi…vern." said Noivern, then takes to the sky. "Noi!"
"One of our problems with Viola was we couldn't get past Vivillon's gust." said Ash. "So lets try to keep our balance! Pikachu, Fletchling, heads up!"
"Pikachu. Chling!" said both Pokémon.
"Go ahead, Alexa!" said Ash.
"Here it comes!" she said. "Noivern, use Gust!"
"Noiv!" it said, as its wings glowed and creating Gusty winds. "Noivern!"
"Pika! Chling!"
"Hang in there, Pikachu!" said Ash. "Be strong, Fletchling!"
"Pika…" said Pikachu, covering his eyes.
"Fletch, Fletch…" said Fletchling.
"Uh oh. Lucar! Dedenne!" said the others.
"Pikachu…Fletchling!" shouted Ash, running under to catch them. "You okay?"
"Fletch…Fletchling." said Fletchling.
"Pika!" said Pikachu as he and Fletchling looked up at Ash.
"I'm here for you two. And so is Jordan and Meeko." said Ash. "So don't worry and concentrate on training."
"Fletchling, Fletch, Fletch!" said Fletchling, determined to win.
"Pika, Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Pikachu! Fletchling!" Jordan called out, gaining their attention. "Stand your ground. You both got this."
"Lucario! Cario, Cari!" added Meeko, nodding.
"Alexa, have Noivern use gust again, please?" Ash asked.
"All right! Get ready!" said Alexa. "Noivern, use Gust!"
"Vern! Vern!" said Noivern, using Gust again.
"Fletch, Fletch, Fletchling!" said Fletchling.
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"We've gotta be able to deal with Gust." thought Ash.
"Fletch, Fletch, Fletchling…"
"Pikachu…"
"You're both doing great!" said Clemont.
"I know you can do it!" said Bonnie.
"Dedenne, Dedenne!" said Dedenne.
"Pi…Fletch…Pika! Fletchling, Fletchling!"
"Ash, oh no!" Serena exclaimed.
"You okay, Ash?" asked Jordan, helping her brother as Meeko checks on Pikachu and Fletchling.
"Vivillon's gust isn't the only thing we have to deal with." thought Ash. "There's Surskit's Ice Beam and Sticky Web, too. How are we gonna do it?"
"Fletchling, Fletch, Fletch!" said Fletchling, causing Ash to look up.
"Pika, Pika?" asked Pikachu.
Narrator: In the wake of Pikachu's and Fletchling's defeat at the hands of Viola's Surskit and Vivillon, will Ash be able to come up with a strategy to defeat the Santalune City Gym Leader and win his first Kalos region Gym badge?
Jordan: He better come up with a good strategy. Look at how far he got at the Unova League.
Meeko: Lucario.
Serena walks over to Ash and Jordan. "Ash?" said Serena, then hands the eldest sibling something. "Here, use this."
"Great! Thanks." said Ash, taking the handkerchief from her.
"Uh…" said Jordan.
"Here we go." said Serena. "Ash, do you and Jordan…remember me?"
