Now I Only Want You Gone

Susie looked down upon her overjoyed pink nemesis as he relished in the restored breeze of his previously ruined homeworld.

Well, here we are again

It's always such a pleasure

Susie tried to muster up some anger toward the pink child. He had beaten the hell out of her. Humiliated her. Embarrassed her in front of-

Oh, how we laughed and laughed

Except I wasn't laughing

Susie couldn't find it in her to feel any genuine animosity toward the Puffball. She still thought of him as a rival, sure; but no longer an enemy. She no longer had a reason-nor enough stupidity-to go after him.

She'd let him be.

Under the circumstances, I've been shockingly nice

Susie slid her visor over her face, had her business suit turn tail, and rocketed into the blue, smog-free sky. She could finally put that pitiful chapter of her life behind her. She could leave this damn planet to itself.

You want your freedom? Take it

That's what I'm counting on

Susie looked back one more time, the battleship of the knight sailing away toward the horizon as the pink nuisance ran joyfully after it. She felt a bit silly, now; having hated a mere child so much.

I used to want you dead but now I only want you gone

Susie reached the edge of the atmosphere, where the pink hero's battle against Star Dream had taken place. Further outside the atmosphere, in the distance, she saw a debris field. The only remnants of her father's life's work. The only remnants of her father himself.

She was a lot like you

Maybe not quite as heavy

Now little Caroline is in here, too

Susie thought back to the day of the accident. To how her father had excitedly ushered her into the test chamber to watch his latest attempt to reactivate Star Dream. The final attempt of several that was, as he claimed, "Sure to work."

One day, they woke me up

So I could live forever

It's such a shame the same will never happen to you

Susie fully exited the atmosphere and looked back at the planet that had just changed her life. The bright, yellow, five-pointed star twinkled back at her with its sparkling blue-white rings. Visually appealing, sure, but what there was worth defending? It was so primitive. There was no technology; nothing there that would leave a mark on the universe.

Well, except for him.

But, still. This had to have been the most exciting thing that had ever or would ever happen to him. It was one heck of a thing to contribute to the universe; saving it and all; but now that it was over, he was just going to live out the rest of his days on that planet; playing with his colorful little friends.

You've got your short, sad life left

That's what I'm counting on

Susie shook her head to clear it of the mutinous thoughts. What did she care for the kid? He was just some random, strange, annoying, admittedly powerful life-form from a backwater planet. Why did she care so much? Why did she care what he did with the rest of his life? Why did her heart pang at the thought of being alone again not ever seeing him again?

She didn't care.

Really, she didn't.

He could do whatever he wanted. He was of no concern to her anymore.

I'll let you get right to it

Now I only want you gone

As Susie sped away from the planet, the faint pain in her heart at the thought of leaving it-and its inhabitants-behind suddenly turned into a tug.

What was she doing? She had nowhere else to go. Did she really want to be alone again; once more living a nomadic life in a void? Hadn't she had her share of that already?

The shiver that travelled down her body at the thought was an affirmative if she'd ever heard one.

Was she really ready to say goodbye to Pinky?

Goodbye, my only friend

Yes. Yes she was. Her heart hardened; and her cyan eyes narrowed behind their neon-yellow visor.

Oh, did you think I meant you?

Like she needed some annoying kid in her life. Get real, Susie.

Eager to get out of there even quicker (trying not to lose her resolve), Susie kicked her Business Suit's thrusters back into high-gear and rocketed toward the edge of the solar system. She didn't need him. She only needed herself. She'd gotten herself this far.

Well, you have been replaced

I don't need anyone, now

If I delete you, maybe I'll stop feeling so bad!

The speed she was going at caused the tears leaking from underneath her visor to blow away and leave a trail of droplets floating in her wake as she jetted through space.

She ignored them.

Little Pinky was going to forget all about the mess she'd caused. Forget all about her. And in time, she would forget all about him. And she was content with that. She was. His life would go on, and so would hers.

So would hers.

Go make some new disaster!

That's what I'm counting on!

You're someone else's problem; now I only want you gone

Now I only want you gone

Now I only want you gone…
