Barret knew hiring the boy with glowing eyes to make deliveries for his company was a mistake. How could anyone trust a Shinra brat with these kinds of things, but the young man swore he was simply trying to make a living for himself and his friends. Black hair clipped short to the teen's neck as the young man sorted the envelopes he'd need delivered by the end of the day and nodded.
"I'll be back before you can say boom." Zack declared, then with a wave of his hand the boy was off. Most kids that age didn't have the mako brights that the kid sported. Barret just bet Shinra's dogs would be sniffing around sooner or later. But the work would keep the kid away from the less than decent folks in the slums.
Runaways from above plate or even beyond the walls often turned up in Wall Street or worse depending on who found them first. However the slums weren't a charity, everyone had to commit to something the community needed in each sector. Like that blond kid Old Man Kirk hired to do the water filters, or the bouncer at diner that dealt with the less savory sorts. The new flower girl from sector six kept to herself but offered a decent bit of light no one messed with her.
The four kids had shown up one day and simply fell into the tasks they'd been hired to do. No one spoke about where they came from and no one asked. Even if all four had them mako eyes and likely a bounty enough to get out of the slums with on each of their heads.
A dark haired man in a blue suit strolled past his store windows, glanced inside, and moved on. Barret clenched his remaining fist and called Marlene in from her play. The creeps were already closing in it seemed. He picked up the phone and dialed up Jessie.
"Let the crew know the shadows are getting longer in sector seven. The new kids could be in trouble."
Jessie huffed her reply. "I'll tell the Host. He might be able to help them out."
