Valkyrie Cain knocked on the door.

Rap rap rap.

She knocked louder, until the door was opened to reveal an old lady with a lined face and sunken cheeks.

"Yes, what do you want?'' the woman said sharply.

Valkyrie took a deep breath, and whispered, "I was wondering if you had seen Skulduggery Pleasant, or any sign of him at all?''

"Stop making up names and poking fun, young lady. I am too old to have my time wasted,'' the old woman snapped, and slammed the door in Valkyrie's face.

Valkyrie trudged back home, sank into her favourite armchair, curled up and started to read her favourite book to try and distract her from her sadness. That was her only hope of finding Skulduggery, and she had failed. She continued to read, but try as she might, she couldn't block out her guilty, self-pitying thoughts. She curled up for what could have been hours, or mere minutes.

Rap rap rap.

The relentless banging on the door intensified as Valkyrie slowly got out of her armchair, gently placed her book on the table and walked towards the direction of the sound. She grudgingly opened the door, only to find the one person she had been looking for these last 300 years. It took her a moment I apprehend what was happening, but found herself sprinting forward.

"SKULDUGGERY!'' She shrieked, and threw herself at him.

She felt the framework beneath his clothes that have him mass, and although the hug he gave her was cold and bony, she enjoyed it nonetheless, as she had found her best friend and partner again.

~ Sorry this story is so short, the idea just popped into my mind. Hope you enjoy!
