Edith and The Elephant Chapter 3

"Ha! I should have known you were behind all of dis!" glowered Gru, "I'm calling Mr. Tal". He zipped towards the hallway to make the call. Margo, Edith and Agnes and the Minions desperately tried to stop him. They all protested at once! Luckily for them, Blondie grabbed the phone just in time before Gru could pick it up. As he chased her, Margo explained how Mr Tal had lied to everyone at the circus about Stompy, even to them. But Gru wasn't listening, but Lucy was. ''What did he say Margo?'' Lucy wanted to know. ''He said that he trained Stompy with love and care, but he didn't. He lied to us! He's a fraud!'' replied Margo.

But Gru still refused to listen, "Enough of dis nonsense! This beast is going back where he belongs!" he growled, "Now Blondie, give me the pho...", he broke off what he was saying when he finally noticed Stompy hanging down in resignation and pure sadness who just moaned. This finally got Gru to realize that Margo appeared to be right. "Is...Is dis true?" he gaped. Margo, Edith, Agnes, Lucky, Blondie, the Minions and Stompy all nodded in saying yes. "Mr. Tal treats you so sour, doesn't he?" said Lucy to Stompy who nodded his head in agreement. Margo, Edith and Agnes pointed out that the circus was the wrong place for Stompy and mistreating animals was illegal.

''Can we keep him please?'' Edith begged Gru and Lucy. ''He'll have to live down in the lab for de time being while we think what to do with him'' said Gru, ''Elephants are too big to live in houses''. Edith was excited about Stompy staying. ''Yes!'' she cheered. ''Don't worry, elephant. We'll make sure that bully doesn't take you back'' said Dru. Stompy grunted in question. ''Uncle Dru, his name is Stompy'' Margo pointed out. ''Oh sorry Stompy'' said Dru. Stompy rumbled. The family led him down into the lab. Gru spoke to Dr Nefario, ''We need to make really big bed for Stompy'' he said. He, Dr Nefario and all the minions wasted no time. They spread out a gigantic cover on the floor. Stompy tried it out.

It felt just right for him. That night when everyone was sleeping, Stompy snored extra loudly, that caused deep rumbling, vibration, rattling noises with everything shaking. Luckily everyone was fast asleep enough to make then unable to hear the noise, except Gru who lay in bed with his eyes wide awake. He leaned against his hand with boredom. ''Arrrrgh!'' he groaned. The snoring kept him awake all night long. The next morning, Gru was exhausted. Later that day, he went outside to mow the grass. He'd just started when he stopped and smelt something. He looked around and there on the ground was a massive pile of elephant poop! "EDITH! STOMPY!" he bellowed. Minutes later, Minions used a crane to grab the poop and put it in a bag.

Gru began to vow. "If Stompy doesn't behave himself, he has to go!" he muttered. As he stormed off, Edith felt worried about her new animal friend. "I know how you feel, Edith" said Dr Nefario, "But we can't keep the elephant in the house. An elephant needs more spaces and some proper good food". "But what am I gonna do? I can't let Mr Tal take Stompy back to his circus or the mistreatment would get even more worse than ever" wailed Edith. "There's only one thing to do…" said Dr Nefario putting on a hat. Later on, a crowd or people had gathered at Gru's house. The minions had stuck up some signs. "Roll up! Come and see Stompy the Elephant! Be free to ride him and feed him!" called Dr Nefario holding a stick and wearing a jacket.

Stompy trumpeted. He gave rides to children on his back, including Margo, Edith and Agnes's friends, Nia, Sophie and Jessica. The kids laughed and Stompy bellowed while Jillian and the other moms watched. After the ride, they got off. ''I can't believe you got a new pet!'' exclaimed Nia. ''And he's from a circus?'' asked Sophie. "And is that man treating him so cold?" added Jessica. "Yeah" replied Edith. ''The evil ringmaster, Mr Tal kept lying to everyone'' Margo explained, ''Yeah he broke the law by mistreating animals'' added Agnes. Then it was feeding time for Stompy, Everyone took turns to feed him grass, twigs peanuts and fruit to eat. Meanwhile, Gru and Lucy were trying to find a new home for Stompy. They looked on the internet. They looked up at the website of the local zoo.

''We gotta tell Edith'' sighed Lucy. Meanwhile at the animal control shelter, Inside, the boss was talking to one of the Animal Control Officers about something big to do and someone needed to volunteer. ''Now who's cut out for this job so I can rely on either one of you?'' asked the boss. Everyone moved back, except for a balding, overweight, middle-aged man called Boris wearing glasses and snoring as he slept. ''Boris, you're on it'' said the boss. ''Huh?'' said Boris. ''Tell me, Boris, how many dogs have you caught this month?'' asked the boss. Well, there was this Labrador retriever, but he got away. ''So, maybe none. I ain't caught so much as a Chihuahua in months'' replied Boris.

''But I did caught one thing this month. I only captured a grizzly bear who was terrorizing a family's picnic in the park. Surely it was big enough to make it easy for me to find'' protested Boris. ''Then this must be your lucky day today. I'm gonna assign you to find something much more bigger and easier. You think maybe you could find a…well, an...elephant?'' said the boss. Boris looked uncomfortable, ''I don't know. I'm not sure about catching an elephant. Because...'' he paused, ''Wait a minute, yes, maybe I can. And I know just what I need for a trap, something that elephants can't resist he said suddenly coming to his senses.
