Edith and The Elephant Chapter 5

As they spoke, unbeknownst to them, Stompy saw a bottomless bowl of peanuts and his eyes grew wide with excitement. At that moment, Stompy bolted and trumpeted. "Hey! Where's he going?" asked Agnes. The minions raced after Stompy trying to stop him. They tugged at his legs and Blondie bit his tail to try and pull him back, but Stompy was too strong for them. The peanuts were a trap by Boris, the chose animal control officer! Stompy started to wolf down the peanuts with his trunk as the Minions, Lucky, Blondie and Kyle tried to intervene. A shocked and surprised Boris, saw his strategy working, fired the blaster and a net launched in the air. ''WATCH OUT!'' yelled Margo. But it was too late. THWUMP! The net had captured Stompy with the Minions, Blondie, Lucky and Kyle in the net with him and the Gru family ran up to witness the chaos.

Boris opened his eyes to see that his plan had succeeded and grinned. "YES! Yes! Yes! I did it!" he triumphed, "I caught the elephant! I knew they can't resist peanuts! WOO-HOO!". There was the sound of sirens wailing and police cars approaching, and crowds of people gathering around. ''Attention, everyone: I caught the elephant'' announced Boris, ''I may be a lousy dogcatcher, but I'm a great elephant catcher!'' and he laughed. ''I'm afraid Stompy's gonna go back to the circus with Mr. Tal'' sighed Lucy. ''There you are!'' said Mr Tal who had just arrived, he angrily pointed at Stompy, ''You are in so much trouble now, elephant!'' he snarled. As he stormed toward the tangled group, the Gru family confronted him.

''Mistreating animals is illegal!'' said Gru. ''It's wrong to treat him or any person or animal badly!'' added Lucy. ''You lied to us! You said you treated Stompy with love and care and you didn't'' finished Dru. But Mr Tal wouldn't listen. ''Mind your own business!'' he scowled, ''He needs to be punished! Severely!''. He resumed reprimanding poor Stompy, ''Bad elephant! BAD elephant!''. The crowd of people watched with wide eyes, shocked and surprised. ''If you think I disciplined you before, Stompy, wait until you see what happens now!'' said Mr Tal. Gru growled because he was outraged how cold-hearted and psychopathic Mr. Tal is. ''Elephants are supposed to have great memories!'' continued Mr Tal, You wouldn't remember the last time I fed you, and you're going to work three times harder''. He held up three of his fingers.

Stompy looked at his soon-to-be former owner with wide eyes. At that very moment he began to glare, the anger was coming into him at last! Stompy remembered all the mistreatment, like how Mr Tal fed him very little, made him do lots of hard work without breaks and always scolded him for no reason. All that was worse than what was happening right now. Stompy had had enough! He let out a loud angry roar. As he stood up, he gathered his great immense strength and successfully broke free from the net off him, including the Minions, Lucky, Blondie and Kyle. ''Hey! What are you…?!'' gasped Mr Tal. Stompy let out a loud angry roar growled loudly and snatched him up with his trunk. ''HEY! Put me down right now!'' ordered Mr Tal. Stompy let out a fierce, raucous bellow.

He tossed Mr Tal and sent him flying through the air and crashing into the back of the police van where the chief closed the door on him. ''Looks like he ain't gonna do any of that stuff anymore'' said the police chief. ''What do you mean? He's my elephant, and he's going to do what I say!'' said Mr Tal. ''You mean MY elephant!'' shouted Edith. ''This family is right ya know. Mistreating animals is against the law! You said you taught Stompy with love and perfection but you lied. You've been nothin' but a horrible fraud'' said the police chief. ''But….'' said Mr Tal. ''Booo! He lied to us!'' said a man in the crowd. The rest of the crowd booed too. ''Sounds like we'd better take you down to jail and teach 'em to ya'' said the police chief. ''What?! No! You can't do this to me! You're making an awful mistake! I'm innocent!'' howled Mr Tal as the cops drove him to jail in the back of the police van.

''Stompy, I'm glad you stood up to him'' said Edith. Stompy smiled. ''Uhhh… sorry for what I did, but I think everything's gonna be alright, now'' said Boris. ''You see, since you are an animal control officer, we were hoping if you could help us send Stompy to the zoo where the zookeepers will take care of him properly'' said Gru. ''Yeah, sure, I'd be gladly to trade Stompy over to the zoo in exchange for a more happier place. I know those zookeepers, they're really kind and polite'' replied Boris. The next day at the zoo, the zookeepers opened the iron doors to let Stompy in his new home. It was a large grassy enclosure with a section of pool water for swimming in and cleaning himself with.

Edith and the rest of the Gru family could see that he was very happy there already. Edith knew that she could always visit him whenever she could so she needn't miss him too much. ''Stompy sure is happy'' observed Margo. ''See, Edith? Elephants need bigger spaces and other elephants to bond with'' pointed out Lucy. ''Yeah, I guess you're right'' said Edith, ''Elephants don't make good pets''. "Yes, that's true. But at least you knew that you still get to see your new friend at the zoo more often" agreed Dru. "I know, Uncle Dru" said Edith. ''But dere's still de giant hole in de front door dat Stompy made and I've got to fix it'' said Gru through gritted teeth. ''I'm sure it was an accident'' reassured Lucy. ''Here, Stompy, a peanut!'' called Agnes, holding out her hand. Stompy took the generous gift with his trunk and chomped it.
