Hey everyone! What's up!?
So this was an idea I thought of after watching There's Something About Knuckles (Part 5) by mashed, which is a pretty great series and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Anyway… Part 5 ended off with a very sad and heartbreaking turn, in which… (And spoilers!) Sonic gets corrupted and Tails is forced to watch his friend turn into a monster and barely manages to escape…
And I thought… That ending could have been even darker… So fair warning, prepare yourself for what you will read!
(Tails' POV)
As I watched Sonic inject the serum into Eggman, I knew right away something has gone terrible wrong as Eggman himself started laughing like he wasn't in pain just mere seconds ago…
"What the hell was that stuff?" I heard Sonic say as he dropped the syringe while Eggman continued laughing. "What did you make me do?"
"I made you Loooooose!" Eggman shouted in triumph. "The power of chaos is elemental and once unleashed it cannot be contained only… Transferred."
As Eggman began to grow red, I knew there was no time to lose, I had to act before it was too late…
"SONIC!" I shouted as I rushed froward. "GET BACK IN BLUE NOW!"
"TAILS!?" Sonic replied as he turned back to Eggman. "NO! WE'RE GOTTA HELP HI…" Sonic spoke as Eggman let out a roar as the transformation was fully taking hold and the chaos emeralds shot out from Eggman's eyes.
"HOLY S***." Sonic cursed as he was truly terrified.
"NOOOOOO!" I shouted as the growing red emeralds launched themselves right at Sonic, who turned back again momentarily as the emeralds made impact.
"Your… Turn…" I heard Eggman let out his final words as Sonic was down on the ground face down as I rushed to my friend.
"I'm here Sonic!" I cried. "Let me help…" I started, but was cut off as Sonic lifted up his head and that's when I saw my friend's transformation was already taking hold of him…
"Get AWAY FROOOM MEEEE!" Sonic yelled as his eyes were replaced with the emeralds and his body was starting to be deformed as I flew back. "THE POOWEERRR! THE RRRRRAGE! TAILS!… I CAN'T… I CAN'T HOOOLD ITTTT!"
And with his last free will, he told me something I knew I couldn't do…
"RAHHH RUUUUUN!" Sonic shouted at me as his transformation into a ginat hideous beast was complete.
"Soni…" I started, but was cut off as now what was once my friend destroyed my mech in one mighty swing of a claw.
Recovering from the near hit on me, I looked up in pure terror to a waking nightmare, which was all too real as I cried uncontrollably, beginning to hyperventilate as Sonic was no longer in control, bent on taking my life now. I knew I was a goner, but then I saw Blue, Sonic's mech built like a knight, cockpit open and ready for someone to jump in. As I formed a plan, a shadow went over me as the monster who was Sonic prepared to crush me.
Quickly getting out of the way by spindashing, I flew as fast as I could through my rushing emotions to Blue, fighting through the pain and tears as I managed to make it, jumping in, taking a quick breath as I turned on the video screen and saw the monster.
"I'm sorry old friend…" I hit the self destruct, which I knew had enough of a blast to potentially kill Sonic and giving me just enough time to launch the head off the suit, like an escape pod and make it out before I was caught in the blast… "Goodbye forever."
I didn't want to do it… I wanted to figure out a way to bring back Sonic from whatever this curse was, but I knew I couldn't… I not only thought of all the people back in the city, but I thought of the pain Sonic was in right now… I had to take him out of his misery for good…
As the self destruct counted down, I quickly launched the head of the mech, going up into the sky right before Sonic smashed Blue, which blew up in a huge explosion as I rocketed up and away. I held on tightly as eventually I crashed back down to the ground, the impact more forceful than I expected as I hit my head on something and I blacked out…
I only opened my eyes for a split second a few times… Seeing the head of the mech open up and Amy and Silver looking down at me, My friends carrying me and into the city, laying on a soft bed and being treated for my injuries… That was the last thing I remembered before I woke up for good, panting, sweating, and shaking as I screamed out in panic.
"Tails!" I heard a voice call out to me as I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. "It's okay, you're safe, everything is okay." I turned to see it was Knuckles with a smile on his face. "Thank goodness you're awake buddy, I was beginning to think we lost you."
I couldn't say anything, feeling my throat was incredibly dry as I motioned for some water, which Knuckles got as I drank a whole cup and even still I felt all dry inside, but I could form some words…
"What happened!?" I asked, speaking fast. "How long was I out? Is the city okay!?"
"Woah, easy pal." Knuckles calming me down. "We found you just outside the Baron's castle in Blue's head, got you out and rushed you to the hospital, we patched you up, but you were out cold, it has been three days since than." Knuckles informed me as I remembered why I was in Blue's head…
"Where's Sonic…" I asked as Knuckles changed his facial expression. "Where is he!? Is he okay!?"
"I'm sorry Tails… He's gone… We tried to find him in the ruins of the Baron's castle and there has been no sign of him since we found you…" Knuckles told me as I felt my heart shatter into pieces as I had a feeling it was true, I just didn't want to believe it.
"I want to be alone…" I told Knuckles as he stood up from his seated position and began to leave, but stopped at the door as he turned to me.
"You made the choice you had to, to save all of us Tails." Knuckles reminded me. "You're a hero pal, I'm sure he would agree too and do the same if he was in your position." Knuckles added as I knew he was talking about Sonic.
I just curled up on the bed, crying until there were no tears left and exhaustion took over me again as I just laid right where I was…
A few more days passed as there were no more attacks confirming that the monster was indeed dead and no longer a threat to the city, meaning everyone could finally enjoy peace and quiet as a parade was held in honor of the hero who finally put an end to the menace… Me.
However I didn't join in the celebrations as the streets were alight with people being overjoyed, hugging each other as they cried with happiness. I just watched quietly from on top of the citadel, sitting down in a wheelchair in front of a statue… A statue of Sonic, I hung my head low as I just felt so weak and powerless.
Sitting here, alone and with my thoughts, my head began to ache as the memories of that day stung through, torturing me as my eyes watered. I thought of how different things could have been, if I had been faster to push Sonic out of the way… If I sacrificed myself and became the monster instead… However that didn't happen and now Sonic was gone and I was left to live with the fact I had to kill my best friend to save everyone, including Sonic…
"Thought I would find you here." I heard Knuckles' voice as he appeared from behind the statue and came to my side. "You're okay pal?"
"I still have nightmares…" I answered as I sighed, letting out a tired breath. "Everyone is treating me like a hero, but I'm not… I had to kill Sonic…"
"I don't know what to say buddy, but what's done is done, you can't change what happened… You can only look froward and I know he would want you to live your life." Knuckles told me.
"I know Knux…" I replied. "Still hurts…"
"And we'll get through it together pal, we all miss him." Knuckles added as he took out a bottle of not only water, not even coffee or tea as he offered it to me. "Here, you need it now more than ever."
I took a sip of the bitter liquid, feeling it burn down my throat, but then feeling a little relaxed as I took another heavy chug while I saw Knuckles take out something else…
"I almost forgot… I found this in the ruins of the Baron's castle, I thought you would want it…" Knuckles holding out a red scarf… The red scarf which once belonged to Sonic…
I took the scarf, tightly gripping it as I knew this was the last thing I had to remember my friend by as I neatly wrapped it around my neck, feeling nice and warm.
"Thanks Knux, why don't you go and join everyone else, I would like to stay here." I told Knuckles.
"Nah, parties aren't really my thing…" Knuckles shrugged his shoulders. "I rather keep you company pal, if that's okay with you."
"Sure…" I smiled as I laid back and looked up at the statue of Sonic while fireworks began to shoot off into the sky from the city as the sun began to set down over the horizon.
And that's a wrap on this!
So darker, but at least it ends on a good note!
Also, I have been thinking about making it even darker than this and I might write it, if you all want me to!
