'Hello, Sammy. I hope you're doing well in this weather, well of course you're in Pontypandy and I'm in Cardiff, but it doesn't matter right…right?' I sighed as I put down my phone. The text was from one of my lead firefighter friends in Cardiff. We meet once every season for training with Boyce and the other lead firefighters. At least someone is worried about me. I thought. The weather here in Wales has been quite odd lately probably due to climate change. "Sam," Elvis yelled from across the room, "food's ready… if you want to eat of course." He did his ironic giggle and ran away. I sighed, I know I need to eat, but I don't really feel like it. "Sam?" I jumped and looked back, but it was only Station Officer Steele. "Yes sir?" I question while standing up to salute him. "You need to eat something you haven't eaten in days–unless you've gotten the bug. You are a bit pale after all." What?! Me, sick? Never, what has gotten into him. "With all due respect and worries sir, but I'm not sick. Besides, I never get sick." Station Officer Steele sighed, "Ok, well goodnight I'm going home." He Waved and left. I sighed and left too, besides there was no need to be there after my shift. I went home, got ready for bed, worked on a story, and then went to bed.
The next morning when I woke up, I was currently ill, I had a stuffy nose, ragging dry throat, and nightmares all night. Then my phone went off. I picked it up and saw that it was from Chief Fire Officer Boyce. I answered it. "Hello sir?" "Hello Sam, why aren't you here? It's 11:00." I glanced at my clock, wow I actually slept until 11:00. "I'm sorry sir, I don't think I'll be in today. I don't feel well." I heard him gasp. "You haven't gotten the winter bug now? You know what, I'll be there in a minute. See you Sam." "Aright, bye sir." I put my phone down and sighed. Great, just what I needed, My boss coming over. I coughed and layed down. About 20 minutes later I heard a knock at my bedroom door. "Come in." I somehow managed to get through my sore throat. "Hey Sam. Are you doing ok? I brought you some honey and lemon tea." He said in a much kinder manner. I sighed. "To be honest, I'm not really feeling the best." I answered, he got an upset look on his face. He put down the tea and sat on my bed, and put his cold hand on my forehead. He sighed, "A fever," He whispered then cleared his throat. "I want you to stay in bed today since you're not feeling well." He ordered. "But–I" I sighed in response. "No 'buts' Sam. You have a cold and you're staying home." I breathed out an irritated sigh. "Fine, but also why are you acting like mom? You never act like this." I admitted. Boyce laughed. "I guess this is what happens when you have a chief fire officer who cares about you." I just groaned.
