Sasuke drops by the registry office, after speaking more with the owner of the land he wanted to buy. He asks the counter for some forms he fills out before heading to the Hokage tower and going up to the Hokage's office.
Maybe it's a good thing that the chuunin on guard by the floor lets him know that the Hokage is free to see anyone that time. The door is opened for him, and Tsunade is there reviewing the very folder the ANBU from earlier collected from the apartment.
Tsunade reads the forms Sasuke wordlessly hands over. Shizune gasps behind her.

"I see," she sets the form down. "You're just itching to prove yourself, aren't you?"
Sasuke doesn't answer.
"This," Tsunade holds up the application. He's not letting Uchiha off that easily. Kakashi and Iruka will be informed about this. "Will be on hold until I say so,"
"Hai," is what Sasuke says instead, and takes the documents when it's handed back to him.
"And Uchiha," says Tsunade, "You might need to redo the amendment. The person who will receive your application will be Kakashi,"
That's why Sasuke is submitting this now instead of later. He doesn't know if Kakashi will be harsher on him than Tsunade is. "Hatake-dono will take office sooner than planned?"
Tsunade notices the formality Sasuke uses to refer to his future father-in-law, and the marriage date three months after the child's expected first birthday. "Maybe," she can't still be the hokage when Naruto gives birth. She wants her full attention on him and the child, not the village.
"May I also make a request?"
"What is it?" Tsunade returns to her documents.
"More time to settle with Naruto, and arrange for the repair of the house on the land you suggested I purchase,"
"Oh, so you're on that?"
"Yes. I've spoken with the owner,"
"How much time?"
"Two weeks?"
"Approved,"
"Thank you,"
"You will, however, help in Kakashi's preparations by bringing documents to his home. The documents will be sealed and only he can open them. You're free to browse when he's perusing them, so you know what your job as an assistant entails. Whatever you can remember with that eye, you can ask Naruto for help. He's actually pretty good at this assistant thing,"
"Hai,"
"You can go,"
He leaves.
Sasuke employs the assistance of a staff from the land registry ministry with the acquisition of the land, to make sure the landowner selling hands over the legitimate documentation for it as they work out and sign the payment scheme. He's finishing up and bidding the ministry staff goodbye when a middle-aged woman, a civilian, comes up to him.
"Ara, kore wa Sasuke-sama ka?" Oh my, is this Master Sasuke?
"Dare da?" Who are you? He almost shoots her a glare, but she's not phased. She seems familiar.
"Mou shiwake arimasen, Sasuke-sama." My apologies. She bows. "I am Sato Kaede. I used to serve the Uchiha. You've grown so well,"
Not as well as Sasuke would've liked, but he'd never trade Naruto and their child now for anything. "I see,"
"I may be speaking out of turn, young master, but there's been talk of you acquiring this land,"
"I am not your master, Kaede-san," Sasuke tells her.
"I would like to return to the service of the Uchiha, if you'll allow it,"
It takes a while for Sasuke to register what she's saying. "Why?"
She shrugs. "I wish to… bring in more income to my household, and it would be so a relief return to the service of the family who treated me and my children so well,"
"I'll think about it,"
She bows and says her thanks.
"What are you doing here, you brat!" Tsunade demands when she sees Naruto step into the Hokage's office with Sasuke behind him.
"Why are you always nagging at me!" Naruto frowns. "I guess we'll go home and eat the lunch we brought,"
"Get back here and give me that," the hokage snaps.
The blond grins, then sets two bento boxes down on the table. "Ne, Baa-chan, you're loaded, huh?" he says, noticing the stacks and stacks of paper around her.
Tsunade ignores him and breaks the chopsticks and opens the boxes. The first bento of grilled squid, some mini sausages cut into octopi, fermented vegetables, and rice; the second, full of better-looking dumplings. "You made the kimchi?"
"Sasuke did," Naruto looks through the pile of papers on his table.
"Needs more salt, but good,"
"Thank you," says Sasuke.
"Baa-chan, shouldn't this be with Shikamaru already?" Naruto asks when he notices the date on the document. He beckons Sasuke to come over to him, who helps him lower himself down on his chair, then grabs a pen to mark off the documents. "He hates it when these are late,"
"Hey! You're not allowed to work!" Tsunade snaps at him. She let Shizune take the day off and she kind of regrets it because she's swamped.
"Relax, this'll take like, ten minutes, tops,"
It did in fact, not take ten minutes. It took an hour, but Tsunade's load for the day was drastically down, and Naruto didn't even break a sweat or get a headache.
"You gotta admit though, I'm good at this," Naruto grins.
"Yeah, yeah," Tsunade waves at him to shoo him out of the door. "Uchiha, make sure he's in bed all day,"
"Hai,"
"Portal him home,"
"I don't want to portal home; it's a waste of chakra and it makes me dizzy!" Naruto argues, frowning. "And I want to go pick up some sweets!" he says petulantly.
"Then pick up the sweets, go home, and REST!" she yells at him.
"Bye, Baa-chan!"
She's going to strangle that boy but he's learning how to make a good bento, though.
Naruto gets some strawberry shortcake from the bakery nearby and some oranges to make juice from the fruit stand next to it. Naruto holds onto Sasuke's arm as always, staying close and letting Sasuke scare away anyone who tries to get close to them to ask about the baby.
"Can't get close to the big, bad Uchiha," Naruto snickers as they enter their apartment building. "Sasuke, scare them away with your ice-cold beauty!"
"Beauty, huh?" he presses up button at the elevator.
"Uh-huh! Everybody knows in Team 7, I was the brawn, Sakura was the brains, and you were the beauty!" The elevator dings, they step in, and Naruto presses the button for their floor.
"You hated me,"
They step onto their floor. "I didn't," Naruto pouts up at him. "I thought you were good motivation! I always wanted to be just as good or better than you! I hated that you were just so good at everything, and I was just too dumb—"
"You're not dumb,"
"—yeah, I was, am still, and I didn't want to admit all the other girls and boys were right about you being real handsome,"
Sasuke unlocks their door, locks it again when they're inside, and they remove their shoes at the genkan. "You thought I was handsome?"
Naruto blushes. "Yeah," then he turns defensive. "It's because I'd just gotten my first heat before we got teamed up, and then we—!"
Sasuke smirks at him. "Kissed."
The omega turns even redder, the blush creeping down his neck, up to the tip of his ears. Because that kiss was his fault. Sasuke is devilishly handsome. The bag of cake and fruit gets forgotten by the sandals.
"Y-yeah,"
The alpha invades his mate's space and backs Naruto up against the wall. "Did you like it? Being kissed by a young, strong 12-year-old alpha? Above all those other boys and girls who vied for my attention?"
More blood is rushing to Naruto's head and hips. Their breaths meet and baby turns sharply in him. "Yes," he pants, "You were so cool, Sasuke," Naruto pulls him closer with his arms on the alpha's shoulders, fingers running up Sasuke's nape and through his hair up the back of his head.
"Mhmm," Sasuke hums as he presses closer, prodding Naruto to reveal even more. It strokes this the ego of his alpha's instincts, to know just how much his omega wanted him.
"When you and Kakashi-sensei, when you almost got the bells, when you blew fire like an itsumade. Your power made me shake. I didn't know why I wanted you so badly. I wanted to be your friend, rival, enemy, anything; I just wanted you to look at me. I didn't even know what a mate meant at that time, but I wanted you," (3)
That early? Naruto had wanted him that early?
Maybe Tsunade was right. Maybe he did like it that an omega was chasing after him. Not just any omega. Naruto. One that he's wanted ever since he started to mature as an alpha.
Sasuke peels the blocker off both his and Naruto's necks, and his teeth graze the skin on Naruto's neck.
The omega gasps. "Sasuke… Baa-chan says no penetration…"
"Know when I knew I wanted you?" Sasuke presses kisses up and down Naruto's neck. "After that kiss, I thought, you tasted so good. The week before we left for Wave, I had my first rut. I thought of you and your taste and scent the entire time,"
Naruto moans at the revelation. Sasuke wanted him, too, after the kiss.
Sasuke will tell him another time, how hard Kakashi had to work to separate him from Naruto and Sakura while they stayed at Tazuna's place.
"And when you tried to save me from Orochimaru, and I saw your gorgeous Kyuubi chakra make you dark and feral because of me. Because you saved me. I was terrified of you, didn't know you were capable of that strength and power, and I knew I had to have you. I just didn't want to admit it,"
"Sasuke…" Naruto breathes, lips brushing against Sasuke's. He presses their foreheads together. "You left anyway,"
"I'm sorry, Naruto. For every time I broke your heart,"
"We'll heal each other," Naruto kisses him. "And if you ever have to leave again… just let me know you'll come back to us,"
Us. Sasuke has two precious people now.
I'll never leave, he wants to say, but it's not impossible that he'll be sent out to accomplish something only he can do, whether it's at Naruto's instruction as reigning Hokage or not. "I love you," he says instead, and press their lips together again.
"I love you," Naruto rasps.
They end up on the bed. Sasuke removes Naruto's haori and carefully takes the support band off. "Does it hurt?"
Naruto shakes his head and pulls Sasuke down with him onto the bed. They scent each other, Naruto's back pressed against Sasuke's chest. It's indecent, the way Sasuke's mouth never leaves Naruto's neck, the way Naruto is grinding his ass against Sasuke's hardness, and Sasuke grinds back. Their scents explode in the room, desperate for each other.
"Sasuke…" Naruto turns around, "Put me on you,"
With a little support, Sasuke moves Naruto until his mate is straddling him. Naruto removes the sash, undoing the yukata and exposing his chest and belly. The omega gasps when his slit covered by slicked underwear touches the warmth of Sasuke's erection.
God, Sasuke doesn't think he can't get any harder until he sees Naruto, flushed with lust filled glassy eyes, half undress in front of him. His hand bites down on Naruto's hip. "Thought you said no sex?"

When the waves of pleasure have bated, and Sasuke is left soft, and Naruto shivering and panting seated on his mate's crotch, there is only the sound of their breathing in the room.
"Sasu… ke…" pants Naruto, "Can't… feel my legs…" he starts laughing.
Sasuke shakes his head and chortles. He can't feel his legs either.
Once Sasuke feels like his limbs are attached to his body again, he helps Naruto into the shower to clean up, and throws their clothes in the hamper for the next laundry day. While Sasuke's in the shower, Naruto hurriedly eats the half-melted slice of strawberry shortcake which makes Naruto moan just as lewdly as he did earlier with Sasuke, not that he knows it sounds that way. When he hears Sasuke done with his shower, he retrieves the notebook he's been writing in from the living area and returns to the master bedroom.
It takes a while for them to get comfortable, with the amount of help Naruto needs to get himself on the bed without feeling like he'll crack his back, tear his belly, or topple over any time. Naruto is in between Sasuke's legs, limbs tangled together, Sasuke's hand pressed gently against the curve of his stomach, and Naruto's back on Sasuke's chest.
"I want to share with you the names," he says, opening the notebook. "But we can't tell anybody yet! It's a secret!"
"What did you have in mind?" Sasuke peeks over Naruto's shoulder.
"Um…" Naruto starts flipping through the pages of his scratchy writing and experimentation with the kanji.
"I do have a request, though,"
"Hm?"
"That we don't name them after any other Uchiha who has lived and died, including me,"
"Oh," Naruto says thoughtfully. "Is this some clan thing?"
"Yes. It is important that the next generation can distinguish themselves from the last and the past, to avoid confusion, comparison, and expectation, and let them make their own name,"
On the other half of the notebook, which is clean and lists down many names, Naruto shows Sasuke the names he likes most.
"I want Akihiko for this one,"
"A boy's name?"
"I haven't asked Baa-chan yet but I'm sure it's a boy, I can feel it," Naruto insists, rubbing his belly affectionately. "We can just shorten it to Aki or go with Akiko if a girl, if my hunch isn't right. Also, since you do the clan head thing, he has to be a boy! An alpha!"
"No," says Sasuke.
"What? Doesn't the heir have to be a boy?"
"No," he repeats patiently. "It doesn't have to be. Remember Kiba's mom? Inuzuka Tsume is the clan head, and her heir is Kiba's older sister, Hana. Usually, if the first child is an alpha, they're immediately declared the heir if that's the head's decision. However, heirs are decided and declared if the first child isn't an alpha. So if the clan head's first child isn't an alpha, he can postpone the decision until an alpha is born, or he can declare an heir if the head doesn't have any alpha children, or the head's mate can no longer birth a child, or if and when he sees potential in another child that may or may not be his own, like what your sensei did with you,"
Naruto gasps.
Sasuke sighs. "Yes, Hatake-kun, you are the next head of the Hatake clan,"
"Holy shit," he breathes. "Even though I'm an omega?"
"Yes. Kakashi-san said so, right?"
"Will people even listen to me?"
"Naruto, the name?" Sasuke nudges him back to the topic since he almost tells him that the Hatake clan will be one with the Uchiha clan. That would mean he'd let it slip that he already asked Kakashi for his hand and failed.
"Oh, right, um," he returns to the notebook. "Akihiko! Because he'll be born in the fall,"
Sasuke points to the other names, "Fuyuhiko, Haruhiko, Natsuhiko?"
"Winter, spring, and summer!" says Naruto, "I just think the seasons are kinda cute. They're strong and elegant,"
"Would you like four children named after the seasons?"
"Yeah, wouldn't be that be so cute?" Naruto snickers.
"That's a lot of work,"
"I promised a clan," says Naruto seriously. "Besides, I'm could totally create my own clan of mamas,"
"Huh. I guess you could," Sasuke honestly hadn't thought of that.
"Uchiha Akihiko."
What a fine name.
"If I make a clone before I get pregnant and just let the jutsu run on, that clone wouldn't grow to look pregnant over time too, would it?"
"Dobe, go to sleep,"
"I was just asking, teme! It's a valid question!"
(3) A terrifying, bird-like, fire breathing Japanese mythical creature.
the reason why sasuke here requests not to name the child or any future children after him or any other uchiha who has lived and died (aside from his reasons), is because the japanese don't usually name children after themselves (other people maybe, because sasuke is named after sarutobi sasuke, the sandaime's father), and because of the koseki (family registry-see last chapter's notes), where everything about a family is registered including births and deaths. if a family head were to name their son after themselves, there would be two of him in the same koseki which will create confusion even if their birth dates are indicated. there is no kanji for jr. or sr. instead, like the hokage, there is something called the "代目/だいめ/daime" which you see on the backs of the coats of the village leader like naruto for example, who is the 7th Generation Hokage, the Nanadaime Hokage (七代目火影・ななだいめほかげ), but this isn't used for people/people's names.
please. don't come at me i beg you. im sorry for all the explanations but one of my pet peeves with fanfics with japanese characters set in a japanese-like setting/world/author's AU is the use of hyphenation in surnames when they get married. 🙈 i know it's y'all's fics and you do you but it just itches at me so i kinda maybe i mean this fic MAY have gone on this long because i wanted to completely, wholly make naruto an uchiha without that pesky hyphenation attempting to retain his unmarried name. hence the documents, some of which i invented, sasuke is trying to wade through bureaucracy. (plus also a dash of angst and a fuckton of drama which of course we live for).
