"Hey Rolf," Newt said, "you might want to find a seat soon."
"Can't I sit with you?"
Newt sighed. "We've been through this before, Rolfie. Em and I are prefects (I in fact am Head Boy); we will not be able to sit with you and you will not be able to sit with us."
"Then where can I sit?"
"This compartment."
"There are people in there.
"N. A. R. Scamander, please. Don't try that. They won't eat you and I need to go be Head Boy. I cannot haul your trunk around all day."
"Fine. I guess I'll sit here." Rolf went into the compartment and sat down. Newt kicked his trunk in and left. Rolf stared miserably at his shoes.
"Hi," said a boy. "Who are you? I'm Colin Creevey."
"Rolf Scamander."
"Rolf..." It sounded like Ginny.
"Ginny?" He sat up.
"Yes. You usually talk a lot more than that."
"My brother dumped me."
"No. He left you with us so you could find your feet."
"I know where my feet are. They're attached to my legs. And who's that next to you?"
"Luna."
"Luna who?"
"Luna Lovegood," the girl said.
"Hi Luna."
"Hi. Who are you?"
"Rolf Scamander."
"Your shoes are untied."
Rolf looked down. "You're right, they are." He retied them. "So Luna, what's your family like?"
"There's just me and Daddy now."
"I see." Rolf knew better than to ask what had happened to Luna's mother. "What about you, Colin?"
"Well, there's Mum, Dad, me, and Dennis. He's my younger brother. What about you?"
"There's a lot of us. Grandad, Great-Uncle Theseus, Gran, Great-Aunt Lally, Great-Aunt Queenie, and Great-Uncle Jacob. Two Great-Uncle Jacobs, actually. One's Jacob Kowalski and the other's Jacob Goldstein. Then there's the Scamanders, the Goldsteins, and the Kowalskis. You might see Anthony Goldstein around, I guess he's my sort of cousin? I don't really know. Then there's Dad and all his brothers and sisters. Then there's us: Oliver, Alfred, Lily, Newt, Emily, Jeremy, and me. Great-Uncle Theseus has a granddaughter, Lally. She's all that's left of his descendants. The Kowalskis... Well, there's my sort of Uncle Jacob, and that's all so far."
"Wow, you do have a large family."
"So you're related to Newt Scamander?"
"Yes. Two."
"My father would love to meet him?"
"Which? My brother or Grandad?"
"She means your Grandad."
"I could guess, Gin. Nobody ever means my brother."
"They're both great."
"Newt's never done anything important, but Grandad-"
"Is a famous magizoologist who wrote a book."
"I was going to say 'fought Grindelwald.'"
"Really?"
"Dumbledore didn't do everything, and neither did Great-Uncle Theseus. Have you forgotten all those stories?"
Ginny huffed. "Just momentarily."
"Can we be friends, Rolf?" Luna asked.
"All right."
"So all that magic stuff is real?"
"Yes it is, Colin," said Ginny.
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Wow."
"I know, right?"
"Ginny and Luna were telling me about Hogwarts."
"It's going to be fun."
"It is."
The compartment was quiet for a long time. Then Ginny said, "Probably should change into robes now." The girls left and Rolf and Colin changed. When the girls came back, the train had arrived and everyone was getting off.
"Come on," said Rolf. "If we're lucky we might see Emily embarrassing Newt."
YES, THIS IS THE END OF THIS STORY.
