Teenage Dream
A/N I'm not entirely sure what hot straight fantasies are like so I shall be making this up from various movies and books.
Seattle Grace Hospital, Seattle, WA 2008 - S5E10
Lexie watched him working from the gallery. Sadie was sitting beside her rambling about how unfair it was that they were all being banned from surgery. Then out of the blue she noticed the brunette staring and elbowed her. "Hey Grey? Are you even listening?" Lexie nodded along but really she was daydreaming.
She saw Mark, because now he was Mark, not Dr Sloan, not McSteamy. He was Mark. He was just some guy who she worked with, her superior. In some of her fantasies, he was her boss and they both worked in an office. He sat behind his desk whilst he reprimanded her, but with a smirk on his face. Because after work he walked her to her car and kissed her goodbye.
Sometimes she pretended they lived in regency times and he was her Mr Darcy. He was the older, richer man who she pined for and also despised.
Sometimes she pictured him in army getup coming home from the war with a scar through his eyebrow and a worn look in his eye. He'd have tattoos down his arms and bulging arm muscles and he could pick her up bridal style. But that made her think of Dr Hunt on occasion so she stopped that one in its grenade-ridden tracks.
But most of the time she saw them in an on-call room. It was the most likely and realistic scenario she could come up with. He pages her to the ER and when she shows up he grabs her arm from behind and pulls her into an on-call room. He closes the door and looks at her, he pauses for a single beat. It's such a long moment that she can feel the Earth moving. She looks into his eyes and everything just stops. Stops. Like it's only her and him left on the planet and he has to take her by the arms at that very moment and kiss her.
It's soft enough that he doesn't hurt her but it's also intense. It's like he trained for this. It's the best kiss she's ever had and it defies all expectations. He's harder at the start but then his lips pull away for a second and then come back tender. Instead of this heated moment that leads into sex, it's a heartfelt make out. He puts his hands behind her head and she rifles through his hair. His tongue wraps around hers and she is left completely breathless. She pulls away from him for a minute to breathe and he gives her one of those smirks he's becoming famous for.
In her mind that's what she wants. But she knows Mark Sloan, if he wants to do anything with her it won't last long enough to get sentimental and he'll move on to the next intern or nurse or random woman he met in Joe's.
She hasn't had a boyfriend since med school, not a proper one anyway. His name was Jason and he smelt of dish soap. It was like his mother pre-wrapped him everyday, like a cafeteria sandwich. They hung out in the library and studied, well mostly. Sometimes they just made out because 'he needed the practice.' He never bought her a birthday present and he ignored her suggestions that they should get a drink sometime.
She'd slept with a few people in between then and now but after college and her awfully misguided crush on George, she wanted a real man. Mark Sloan was a real man. He had grey hair, a fact that she used to associate with being old, but Mark wasn't forty yet and he made it work. He made it sexy. As she stared down at him from the gallery she let her hopes fall as she realised he'd never want anything more than to just sleep with her once and then ignore her. But then Sadie caught her staring.
She found herself protecting Mark because he was actually teaching her. And then Sadie said something important, "he likes you." It was a chance for her to deny any and all feelings for the man, which she did. But then she thought about it. Then she caught him actively looking through the gallery for her. A few more looks like that and she might consider finding the man at Joe's one night and just forgetting all the rules.
The thought that he might be thinking about her, right then and there, in the middle of his super cutting-edge surgery on a woman's throat was, slightly worrying and also wonderful. She felt the goosepimples rising over her arms and her cheeks flushing. She kept looking forward so that Sadie didn't notice, but then Sadie had just told her that Mark couldn't stop staring at her either so what did it matter if she knew?
Mark was thinking mostly about Mrs Patterson on the table and only sometimes about Little Grey. She was staring at him through the glass of the gallery. She was basically screwing him with her eyes. He could feel it. It was like heat-vision, only he was the target. It was like she was now everything he had ever wanted stuffed into a person. Sure, he'd noticed her before Derek told him he couldn't have her. He'd watched her walk down the hallway in front of him and he'd thought about maybe sleeping with her at some point. But now he thought about all the things he wasn't supposed to want, so he'd started distracting himself by thinking about other things.
Like her smile, and her laugh. And the way that she chews pens when she's thinking really hard and the way she tells him to shut up even though he's technically like her boss' boss. Screw Derek. Who was he to tell him he couldn't have her? Well he was her half-sister's boyfriend but that was besides the point. Mark promised himself that after the surgery he was going to stay away from Lexie Grey. He would teach her medicine and act professional around her, for Meredith's sake.
He didn't want to admit it to himself that he might actually like Lexie a whole lot more than he was willing to accept.
