When Akihiko is three, Naruto is just as surprised as Sasuke. Twins. Uchiha Fuyuhiko and Uchiha Rikihiko are born in the winter, in January. They have dark hair and dark eyes.
Two years later, Naruto passes his chuunin exam, and passes out seconds after defeating a finalist Suna ninja, despite the fight not lasting three minutes.
Naruto wins easily against a Suna ninja in the final round. Finally, after a war, a mate and three kids, he's a chuunin.
"Something's wrong," says Sasuke, handing Akihiko, who's sitting on his lap, over to Iruka. Kaede-san has hold of Rikihiko and Kakashi has hold of Fuyuhiko, twin boys.
"Baa-chan!" Akihiko happily goes with Iruka, who looks worried.
"What is it?" Iruka asks.
"Sasuke," says Kakashi, as if giving him permission to interfere with the exams.
Naruto shouldn't be looking that bad, panting like he had a sustained fight, after a three-minute play date. He even gave the Suna ninja a chance, he played with him, dragged it out to let the Suna ninja get a few jutsus in.
Naruto felt especially hot, even with the thin, quality fabric that made the shirt he wore, the Uchiha crest embroidered on the back. He sees the medics put attention on the Suna ninja first, then his vision swirls, turns black around the edges. It's like a bad genjutsu; the ground to seems to swallow him and the sky looks like it's falling. He stumbles on his feet and falls.
The crowd gasps.
Sasuke flickers from the balcony stand reserved for the first family and reappears in the arena fast enough to catch his unconscious mate. "Naruto!"
"Twins," says Tsunade. "Nine weeks,"
"Uso," says Naruto when he's regained consciousness, done with all the prodding, testing, and checking at the hospital. "Uso, uso! I just finished the exams!" he looks up at Sasuke with panic in his eyes.
He starts panicking.
From the horror finding out he fought through this last week while pregnant. Had he paid attention to his body and just gone to Tsunade, he would've just sat the exam out and waited until he could take it again.
From despair of thinking he might have lost the children and it'd be all his fault. He'd fought so many, not all of them got a hit on him, but when a good one presented themselves, Naruto would get a little banged up. Would Sasuke forgive him if he had lost them?
And from happiness that his family is growing again. He did promise Sasuke a clan, but he didn't think he'd be doing it this fast. He's about to turn 29 and they have five kids. Fuyuhiko and Rikihiko are just about to turn two. Twins in succession.
You think I'd let anything happen to these kits? Kurama tells him. I didn't tell you because you wanted to rank up so badly. I got the kits handled always, Naruto.
"I'm sorry!" Naruto lets the tears fall, unable to keep the emotions in and keep himself level, even with Kurama's reassurance. "I've been feeling like shit for weeks but didn't think it was anything. I just wanted to take that darn test and be over with, I'm sorry!"
"It's okay, Naruto," Sasuke places a reassuring hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Breathe, breathe, it's okay. You're safe and they're safe, right?"
"I had a beer!" the omega breathes through worried tears, remembering that he'd had a night out with Kiba and Shikamaru, but had been feeling off and didn't have more than half a bottle of beer. "Riki-chan and Fuyu-chan are so little!"
"You're okay, we're going to be okay,"
"Sasuke," he cries, he falls into a desperate embrace with his alpha.
They were going to be okay.
Uchiha Haruhiko and Uchiha Nobuhiko are born in the spring, in April. They have dark hair and dark eyes.
"Five, huh?" Kakashi tells Sasuke as Naruto takes a long-deserved nap after the five-hour labor. "Thought you were only going for four?"
Sasuke is holding Nobuhiko in his arm, while Kakashi has Haruhiko. "Naruto wanted four names, doesn't necessarily mean four children,"
"What?"
"Kakashi-san, Naruto meant the four seasons. You are holding spring,"
It takes a second for it to register with the Rokudaime Hokage.
"Anata, summer will be just around the corner," says Iruka has he takes Haruhiko from Kakashi's arms. "Hello there, my lovely spring flower," he coos at the newborn.
"Natsuhiko?" Kakashi says tentatively.
"Will say hi soon enough," says Sasuke, still enamored with the dark haired child in his arm.
Six grandchildren, what the fuck, Kakashi thinks. He and Sasuke have a clan!
Kakashi raises the genin age to 15. He bans recruitment of children under 18 to ANBU. Children's talents are cultivated according to their affinities and are trained to use their talents for the benefit of the village and its growth other than just missions that require spilling red or unknowingly contribute to political unrest.
Another two years later, Naruto passes his jounin exam, Sasuke becomes a Tokubetsu Jounin, who runs special missions for Kakashi. Uchiha Natsuhiko is born in the summer, in June, a year later. He has dark hair and dark eyes.
"A summer child!" Iruka coos at Natsuhiko, three hours old, who is latched onto Naruto, and suckling hungrily. It's a tiring affair, being born.
Kakashi sighs fondly. Six grandchildren. He shakes his head. His ANBU are getting tired.
Akihiko is 13, Fuyuhiko and Rikihiko are 10, Haruhiko and Nobuhiko 7, and Natsuhiko 4, when Uchiha Naruto is inaugurated as the Nanadaime Hokage, and their grandfather steps down after 13 years of peace.
Kakashi retires and catches up with his reading list.
Kakashi gets called O-Chichiue-sama, and suddenly understands how infuriating it sounds to be put on another pedestal after being called Rokudaime-sama and Hokage-sama for 13 years.
Iruka is completely fine being O-Hahaue-sama because that means everybody knows that he's the mother of the current Hokage, which makes Kakashi a little jealous because why did Iruka dislike being called O-Danna-sama while married to him? Hint—Kakashi as the alpha should be the one to be called Danna-sama. Iruka would've been completely fine with just Hatake-sama. Maybe Oku-sama wasn't too bad, but Iruka didn't like it.
Sasuke dares them to call him O-Danna-sama when he's the head of security and the Hokage's shadow. Not that he needs ANBU to look after him, but he lets them 'guard' him anyway because it's protocol, and it's not like Naruto can do anything about it, that the first family must all have ANBU with them.
The children are, thankfully, are less picky about what they're called, mostly because they're so used to the honorifics since their grandfather had been Hokage, and now their Mama is. They understand the formality that comes with their grandfather and mama's position.
It's the first time so many ANBU are called to protect just the first family.
During his first year as hokage, Naruto forms the Hokage Council, each handling different ministries of the village. Sakura for health, Hinata for public safety, Sai for internal affairs and communications, Ino for justice, Hanabi for foreign affairs, Choji for finance, Moegi for education and arts, Shino for the environment and agriculture, Konohamaru for economics, trade, and welfare, Yamato for land and infrastructure, Shikamaru as head of intelligence and secretary of defense, and Naruto of course is their chief and head of defense, and only he gets the final say in battle. For everything else, he consults with his council.
Kakashi wonders how the fuck didn't he think of that. He could've had less work, and everything would be more efficient! He could've had more time with Iruka, with Naruto, with his grandchildren!
Kakashi and Iruka decline the positions Naruto offers them because Kakashi wants to stay retired and Iruka would like to continue running the academy.
Naruto dissolves the very council that voted for the eradication of the Uchiha. Kakashi had made the effort of removing some power from them, now Naruto makes an effort to bring voices of the people to the remade council, and now they're made up of completely new people, half from the noble houses, and half from the common people. The elders are now just there for consultation, together with other elderly from the civilians, and not for voting any kind of decision. That's what Naruto's Hokage Council is for.
It was a move that took years, but all of Kakashi and Naruto's effort are now being seen. They had chosen to move slowly to ensure that it wasn't some type of coup or act of tyranny, especially for Kakashi.
Finally, after years, Sasuke gets justice. Naruto has a patch of the former Uchiha estate cleared out and builds there a memorial. The day of the massacre also gets a holiday—everything must be closed that day, to repent for the village's sins against the Uchiha. For putting them in a box, alienating and isolating them, and preventing them from being anything else other than shinobi just because they are Uchiha. Sasuke receives a formal apology on the day of the massacre, a letter, and a kneel and a deep bow from both Kakashi and Naruto as Konoha's living leaders. The dissolution of the council, an apology, a holiday, and a memorial will never be enough, Naruto says, but it's a step in the right direction. A year later, Naruto signs a law requiring the academy to teach the children the very recent history of Konoha, including making transparent the events that led to the massacre of the Uchiha, and how the war was won. It's history, Naruto says, if the children are going to fight for this village, they might as well know what kind of dirt they're willing to overlook and still maintain their will to fight, to serve, to bend to the Will of the Fire.
Part of the justice Sasuke deserves, Naruto has taken upon himself, by helping in the revival of their clan. They've already started, but maybe. Just a little bit more.
So when Natsuhiko is six and a half, Naruto asks Sasuke for another child. One more try, he says, with high hopes for a little girl this time.
During a public appearance formally opening the start of the Winter Festival, the Uchiha Naruto, the Nanadaime Hokage, collapses. A day later, Hatake Kakashi the Rokudaime Hokage resumes office for the Nanadaime is forced to step down due to health reasons. The Hokage's office assures the village that the Nanadaime is merely indisposed, and there is no threat to his health.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing getting pregnant at 38?!" Tsunade says when she visits him the day after he collapsed at the festival. She would have thrown him to a wall if he isn't pregnant. He's twelve weeks. "This is called a geriatric pregnancy, you brat! Do you know what that means? That means you're too goddamn old to be pregnant!"
"So is it a baby girl?" Naruto ignores her.
Tsunade huffs. "Yes,"
Naruto squeals. "A baby girl! Finally! Sasuke!"
The two kiss endlessly and there's a lot of tears on Naruto's part.
She knows Naruto and Sasuke had only tried for Natsuhiko in the hopes of having a girl, but Naruto got his summer child anyway.
His pregnancy was kept secret for his safety, even if it is peacetime.
Nobody sees Naruto for a year.
Akihiko is 15, Fuyuhiko and Rikihiko are 13, Haruhiko and Nobuhiko are 10, Natsuhiko is 7, when their Sharingan awaken in July, two days before Sasuke's birthday. On that day, a daughter is born.
She is the child Sasuke prayed would come to them. She's blonde and has blue eyes. It is her stressful birth that awakens the Kekkei Genkai in all her brothers.
Akihiko's awakens first, when he hears porcelain hit the floor and his mother screams his name like it's life and death.
"AKI!"
The eldest rushes to the kitchen and sees several plates on the floor, Naruto kneeling on the floor, surrounded by broken china, in a growing pool of fluid his own blood. "Mama!"
The rest of their brood thunders down the hall and sees their mother bleeding profusely.
Naruto cups the heaviness of his cramping belly, their last child about to be born, apparently with a little complication. The baby is right there, putting immense pressure on his hips, almost splitting him in half just like the four other births, and he can feel her sliding inch by inch down out of him. It had come out of nowhere. One moment he's putting the plates away, and the next his whole body is cramping. She's three weeks early.
When he looks up, he sees the terrified faces of his children, all with red eyes.
The Sharingan.
I've got both of you, says Kurama.
"Fuyu, Riki, get Papa!" Akihiko sends their second and third born out to collect their father from their grandfather's office. "Haru, Nobu, get Tsunade-baachan!" and their fourth and fifth born to get Naruto's grandmother.
"Mama!" Akihiko begs. There's too much blood. "Mama, tell me what to do!"
Naruto's hands are red from his own blood when Aki helps him up from the floor, staining his firstborn's clothes as he grips his arms. He doesn't mean to traumatize his own children so much to awaken their Kekkei Genkai.
"Aki, the guest room," Naruto groans. "Take me to the bathroo—!" he's cut off by another contraction.
Akihiko tries to keep his composure. He helps Naruto into the guest room with an ensuite bathroom nearest the kitchen instead of the master bedroom which is deeper into the house.
"Put all the towels on the floor," Naruto breathes and pants through the unending contractions that harden his belly almost into a rock.
Akihiko obeys, throwing all the towels from the shelves onto the floor while he has Naruto's weight on his side, and Naruto almost drops himself into a kneel onto the towels, undoing the sash of his yukata and ripping the blood-soaked underwear off himself. The teen almost can't tell what the dark liquid is. His vision is red; it's like everything he sees is being seared into his brain.
You're ready.
"No," Naruto groans through another intense cramp, unable to help spreading his legs when the pressure becomes too great. "No, Sasuke's not here yet—!"
She's ready, Naruto.
He the contraction peaks pushes with a scream, gripping onto the thick layer of blood-stained white towels. The scream makes Akihiko gasp. When it ebbs, Naruto looks up at the pale face of his eldest, the Sharingan still active.
"Mama," the boy cries, "What do I do?"
"Gomen ne, Aki-chan,"
"Ha?"
"I awoke your Sharingan,"
The reprieve doesn't last fifteen seconds, and he's seized by a contraction again, another scream is ripped out from his throat. Aki doesn't know what else to do but kneel beside his mother, shaking.
The child slides out of Naruto seconds later.
"Oh my god," Naruto cries, holding the infant in his hands, bloody and caked in gunk, and crying beautifully. She's blonde. "Oh my god," he sobs, cradling the crying infant to his bare chest. Sasuke's not here. He didn't get to share this with his mate. Everything went by so fast. She'll be their last baby and they didn't share this moment together like they shared all their other births.
"Naruto!"
Sasuke's by the door, Tsunade behind him.
"Sasuke, Baa-chan," Naruto gasps, in shock that he'd just birthed a child in less than ten minutes. "I didn't… know what happened she just… started to come out…"
"Yeah?" Tsunade says, receiving more towels from Sasuke behind her. "That sorta happens when your body is used to it. It knows what to do," she takes the baby, cuts the cord with a scalpel from her bag, cleans her as best as she can, wraps her in the clean towel and does her checking. "What a healthy baby girl. An omega," then hands the child over to Sasuke to check on Naruto. "Congratulations, another Uchiha,"
When the afterbirth is passed, Naruto is cleaned up and put to bed, where Kurama does most of the healing.
The baby girl, Himeko, princess, feeds hungrily from Naruto. She's gorgeous, blonde, soft, smooth, pink, plump, and everything Naruto loves about babies. She's small and he can't wait for her to open her eyes. About time he got one that looks like him. Sasuke's genes are intense.
"What's important is that both of you are healthy and safe," Sasuke says when Naruto tries to apologize for something he can't control.
"Sasuke," says Naruto, "The children," all of whom will be sleeping at their grandparents' for the night, at the Hokage's residence, "They all have the Sharingan. Akihiko hasn't even taken the bell test yet,"
"I received the Sharingan well before the bell test, much younger than Akihiko. I was only able to use it again during that mission with Zabuza. We were taught that even within the clan, only a select few had it,"
"I'm sorry," he says, apologizing again. "I shouldn't… have been the reason why,"
"Naruto, better you and the instinct to protect you, than out there in a life and death situation," says Sasuke, "They'll gain more tomoe as they grow and improve as shinobi, and I will be there for them every step of the way,"
The omega nods. "Are they okay?"
"Fuyuhiko and Rikihiko are in the Hokage's clinic. Haruhiko and Nobuhiko are in the hospital. Nothing serious," Sasuke quickly says before Naruto panics. "Just exhausted from the trip and the awakening. Akihiko and Natsuhiko are on the kotatsu, also tired. Kaede-san is looking after them,"
Sasuke leans closer to Naruto to take a better look at the new baby.
Naruto's emotions are still running high. He sees Sasuke activate the Sharingan like he always did during his births, memorizing everything, to replay in his head whenever he wanted. "Come here," he says wetly, pulling Sasuke toward him to kiss him. "I love you," he says against Sasuke's lips.
"I love you, too," Sasuke returns the kiss. "May I?" he asks when Himeko pops herself off Naruto.
"Of course, Sasuke-papa. She's your princess, too," Naruto places the newborn in Sasuke's arm, which has gotten a lot of practice from six other children, all alphas with the unmistakable dark eyes and hair of the Uchiha.
She settles, then opens her eyes. They're blue.
Sasuke takes an awed breath. "Just like you. I've so wished for a child that looks like you,"
"Better wish she's not exactly like me,"
"Why not? I had the patience and married you, didn't I?"
In August, it is announced that the 7th grandchild of the Rokudaime Hokage was born. A princess, they said. Kakashi chuckles. The child's name wasn't even announced. Gifts and flowers arrive at the Hokage tower and residence, and at the gates of the Uchiha compound, all addressed to an Uchiha O-Hime-sama.
Her name is Uchiha Himeko.
Because truly, she is a princess.
Kakashi holds a baby girl for the first time. Her blonde hair and blue eyes are like a gift to him and Iruka. It's as if they were given a chance to see and hold Naruto as a baby himself, smelling of sweet citrus, orange blossoms, and milk. They tell Naruto, Konoha better get ready for Uchiha Himeko.
The Nanadaime Hokage resumes office five months after Himeko's birth, the child hiding under the coat of the hokage as she nurses from him. He keeps her close and will feed her whenever she fusses, even if he's in the middle of the meeting. He'll sit there and let her suckle on him and Sasuke behind him, sword and eyes at the ready if someone even looks wrong at his mate and child.
Naruto realizes, all Uchiha have the natural affinity for the Fire Release. As their mother he can't help but be anxious every time Sasuke first shows them, even when they're surrounded by water, but like the talented little Uchiha that they are, they're able to replicate it after seeing just once.
They also like wire strings, like Sasuke used when they were young, used both defensively and offensively. Sometimes Naruto is terrified when he sees the boys discussing around the kotatsu, inventing jutsu and moves, using their elements to make wire strings even more fatal.
Naruto lights incense as thanks that his children didn't take after his dumbassery and inherited Sasuke's talents. All the experimental moves and jutsus are destroying every single training ground. Naruto's both embarrassed and proud.
Akihiko passes the bell test and becomes a genin at 15 and a half. He shows proclivity for lightning and fire, just like Sasuke. Sasuke beats Kakashi by one day teaching him Chidori. But it's Kakashi who teaches all of them to copy and fuck with opponent's minds with genjutsu. He loves rice cakes and cold black tea.
Naruto thanks the heavens every morning that none of the boys has not inherited their grandfather's preference in books. If they have, then they better do it out of his sight.
Kakashi almost lets himself cry when they call him jii-chan-sensei. His grandchildren are the cutest (deadliest).
On the engawa of their home, Naruto, still in his Hokage's coat, cradles his sobbing eldest at 20, still in his jounin uniform, when he gets the Mangekyou Sharingan from losing a comrade while on a mission. The Sharingan is a curse, Sasuke says. The more you get hurt, the more powerful you become. He wants all his children to become strong at their own pace, but never due to the pursuit of its power.
Fuyuhiko is fast, has proclivity for the wind, just like Naruto. It's terrifying how sharp and hot wind can be. It's ironic, Naruto thinks. A child born in the winter, blows hot wind. He's a tornado of heat and fire. He loves tomato and eggplant omelettes and doesn't like spicy food.
Rikihiko is a force. His talent is a testament to the meaning of his name. He wields fire, and earth becomes molten lava under the seals on his feet and in his palms. He isn't a picky eater but loves barbecue and won't turn down a beer or two.
Fuyuhiko is a hothead, while Rikihiko is levelheaded. Sometimes Naruto thinks he should've named them the other way around.
Haruhiko and Nobuhiko are healers, inheriting the vast reserves of chakra of the Uzumaki. They follow Tsunade like ducklings—she adores her great grandchildren but doesn't go easy on them. Naruto has to send them away to the training grounds because he will not tolerate another crater in his garden. Hiroki-san, Kaede-san's son, has had enough of fixing the pond and relandscaping every few weeks, and Naruto's had enough replanting his sunflowers and Sasuke's tomatoes.
They hate instant ramen and Naruto is sad about that, and they try to make Naruto eat healthier. Maybe it's the single beer Naruto had while pregnant with them (no it's not—just the karma for all the pranks Naruto pulled when he was young), but they seem to have inherited Naruto's talent for pranks, which thankfully they lessened by the time Naruto was pregnant with Himeko, which was the time their interest in medicine lit, following Tsunade and Sakura around asking what's happening inside their Mama's belly, and always asking Naruto to touch his belly and waiting for a hand or foot to poke out from the stretched skin.
It's the tips and tricks with the Sharingan that Kakashi gives them that help with their medical studies—their eyes record everything. Nobuhiko is set on his track to follow Tsunade and Sakura as a hospital director and surgeon, while Haruhiko is a rising field medic. They get their Strength of a Hundred Seal on their forehead at twenty, after years of storing chakra. They also like poisons and have found using genjutsu on terminal patients a kind of humane way to let them go without any more pain.
Natsuhiko is another kind of fire on his own. He wields dual blades, lightning and fire singeing brightly and sharply down the sharp shining metal, hotter than the summer sun. He takes after Sasuke with the one-handed seals, firing Chidori Senbon from one sword while the other is on fire. He's shy and a Mama's boy but doesn't fear a fight. He hates green peppers and loves strawberries.
Himeko is the one who surprises Naruto the most. While the boys all have a note of loudness in them and getting a few ounces of Naruto's energy, Himeko is the most like Sasuke. A Papa's girl. To others, she is cold, quiet, calculating, and can be ruthless when she wants to. She bites. Figuratively and literally. She's the ice princess who shines and reflects the sun's light. To family, she's the youngest, the sweet and cuddly baby girl they waited for for so long and gets everything she wants. It's jarring, some say, to see Naruto's bright blonde hair and sky-blue eyes on a little girl who has Sasuke's glare down and can fuck you up with a look. Like Sasuke, she likes tomatoes and massive onigiri balls with tuna.
She's a storm of wind and lightning, and her Sharingan awakens at fourteen just before she applies for genin, during a sparring session on a training round when her own moves of hand to hand with a Shadow Clone, when a Chidori hits Rikihiko and sends him flying into a tree, dislocating his shoulder, the bone poking through the torn skin. She thought he'd stopped breathing. His chest is a burnt mess. Haruhiko gets to his older brother immediately and is right as rain hours later (albeit weak from blood loss and needs rest), not a scar in sight. Himeko cries into her Riki-nii-chan's healed chest, apologizing profusely.
Again, Sasuke lectures them about the sacrifices one has to make, or the pain one has to endure to awaken the power their eyes hold.
"Use it," Sasuke tells them, tells his little princess. "Grow on your own pace. But never seek the power of the Sharingan solely for its power, my love."
"Mama says you tried to seek its power," she says.
"I did,"
"What did you try to do to get your eyes, Papa?"
"I tried to kill your mother," Sasuke isn't going to keep secrets from them. He wants them to know it's not worth it to pursue such power.
She giggles. "You didn't get to do it though, because you love him more than you wanted your eyes!"
The laugh takes Sasuke aback. Himeko has such trust in him and her mother. "I guess,"
Before Himeko becomes genin and passes her bell test, Naruto steps down as Hokage.
"I can't stomach it anymore, Sasuke, sending my own children out on missions without the assurance they'll come back to me," is his reason.
Naruto can't help it. He tries to keep his shit together when they come back worse for wear, receiving their reports, then when they're done, shedding tears, and throwing himself at his children, kissing their hair and cheeks after their debriefing, thanking the heavens they're back.
All the boys except Nobuhiko, who is never too far away from the hospital, are out on B to S class missions. He'd love for them to be diplomats instead, but they don't want to do it, unless it's guarding their own mother to a diplomatic visit.
But Sasuke knows Naruto's tired. It's time to let someone else do the leading.
They request to be turned inactive, but they are still available to be called to defend the village if needed.
Sasuke scoffs when the conditions of their retirement are given to them. "What makes you think I fight for Konoha? I fight for Naruto,"
Naruto spends his retirement cultivating the Uchiha estate, hiring farmers to help supply Konoha with organic food, and making clay frogs and painting them, decorating their pond with them. Sasuke reads his to-read list, spends time writing in his journal by the river, takes long walks, and oversees the new houses being built on the growing Uchiha estate. They spend their time gardening together, having tea and biscuits at the engawa, watching the sun set and the moon rise.
Uchiha Yukihiko is born to Akihiko on a cold winter night in February, and Nobuhiko agrees to accept leadership of the Uchiha when the time comes.
All is well.
