CHAPTER 8

Consumed with rage, Link knew he had to be swift and agile in battle, determined to show no mercy to his foes.

'IS THIS ALL YOU HAVE?' he bellowed as he sidestepped the first rider. Grabbing it's spear he dragged it to the floor, viciously stamping down hard on its face with all his might, again and again until blood splattered from its nose and mouth. He roared at the satisfying crunch as the bones in its face shattered. 'I'll KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!'

He roared and slammed the hilt of his sword into its face over and over, the monster's body jerked and spasmed as fragments of skull penetrated into its brain. Only when he could no longer recognise the features of the monster's hideous face did Link step back. But he chose not to end it's suffering, leaving it instead to die a painful death as his attention looked to his next victim.

The other bobokins closed in as Link stood over the creature's mangled corpse, sword in hand and baying for their blood. He could feel the sweat on his skin, mingling with the rain that continued to pour down around them. His muscles tensed and he gritted his teeth, focusing all his energy on the task at hand. Only three of his advisories still lived.

His eyes narrowed. They would be dead by sunrise.

Link moved with lightning speed as the black bobokins bore down on him, all waving their weapons wildly and working as one to defeat him. He dodged the first then the second. Then, facing the third and drawing on teachings from the Hero's mentor of old, his entire body spun with a power and precision as yet unknown to his mortal body. Channelling the Hero's Spirit, the skull of an ancient warrior suddenly flashed in his eyes. The Master Sword glowed brightly and launched him skyward, it's razor-like edge slicing through his enemy and slashing across its chest. Leather armour was no match for the unmerciful blade, and bobokin blood splattered across Link's face as he landed. Turning on his heels her thrust his sword backward and straight through the bobokins chest as it fell, the blade biting into flesh and bone with a sickening squelch. It penetrated straight through, snapping bones and piercing straght through the lungs and out of the spine. The creature let out a terrible scream. It's body twitched as it slowly slid off Link's blade, then writhed in agony as its blood spilled out onto the muddy ground.

Link again felt no mercy in the heat of battle, walking away without looking back. He turned his attention back to the remaining two bobokins, anger still burning hot like coals in his chest. He was panting now, the effort of battle taking its toll on his already marred body. But he refused to give in. He had come too far to fail now.

Sensing the sheer wrath and determination erupting from Link's soul, and knowing that without numbers they were no match for the warrior they faced, the bobokins turned their horses and fled. But Link was having none of it. Fuelled by the adrenaline pumping through his veins he pulled himself up onto one of the many horses that now roamed, and spurring it forward he immediately gave chase.

They wailed and kicked at their horses in a desperate bid to outrun Link, panicked in trying to escape their doom. Heavy rains continued to fall, drenching them all and turning the ground into a slick, muddy mess, but refusing to let the conditions slow him down. He was relentless in his pursuit, each stride of the horse taking him closer and closer to his quarry.

Within moments he drew close enough to smell the fear in the Bobokin's eyes. They knew they were doomed, and they tried desperately to drive their horses onward. But it was too late.

With a roar of triumph, Link drew his sword and leapt from his horse, landing on the back of one with the fleeing Bobokins. The creature let out a terrified scream, trying to shake Link off as he brought his sword down across its skill.

Blood sprayed across Link's face as he delivered the final blow, severing the Bobokin's head from its body. The other creature had watched in horror as its companion perished, stunned by the ferocity of Link's attack.

But there was no time for it to react. With a roar of rage, Link turned to the other Bobokin, his sword flashing in the rain as he charged forward.

The creature tried to defend itself, but it was no match for Link's skill with the blade. Blow after blow rained down with such force it hacked away limbs from its body. Finally the bobokin fell from its horse, defeated. Charging back toward it Link leapt high into the air, then pointing the Master Sword sharply down he speared the monster straight through the it's neck. It squealed and writhed, convulsing wildly as blood spurted from its mouth and exposed windoipe, the breath leaving it's mangled body. Then it went still.

A long and deathly silence followed. Link stood for a moment. It was done.
