Vanellope had never felt so low in her life. She came to the internet to live in what she deemed her dream game. That was 2 years ago. Now it was coming to an end. In less than a week, slaughter race would be gone forever.
It was the year 2020, the world was not well, and people took to gaming as an escape. Slaughter race however was not a lucky game. It hadn't been updated in quite a while, and was falling behind to other games like Doom Eternal and Animal crossing. Those 2 games came out months ago, it was October now. The most recent game to take players away was Star Wars Squadrons, which launched not too long ago. Vanellope couldn't help but feel jealousy to the game as she looked at a billboard in slaughter race
'Pilots wanted! Join the galaxy's finest in Star Wars squadrons'
"Hey V, we're gonna go racing, wanna join? Gotta keep the remaining players entertained" said Shank
"Yeah, I guess" said Vanellope
Shank looked up at the billboard
"Looking at it won't make it go away" said Shank
"I know, but still. How could people like flying more than driving? Or taking care of cute villagers, that's totally lame" said Vanellope as she got in her car
"Not everyone thinks games like this are cool. It was only a matter of time before we got shut down. I'll miss this place though" said Shank
"Bet you won't miss the mini golf mini game" said Vanellope
Shank blushed in embarrassment at that comment
"Please don't bring that up. I don't know why people think I like playing mini golf with them" said Shank
Vanellope and Shank drove through the near empty streets, simply trying to reach the other side of town fastest, maybe taking out a noob in the process. There weren't many players these days, most of what was left were npc's. Only new things Vanellope saw were billboards advertising other games. As cool as doom or Star Wars squadrons seemed, she couldn't help but feel jealousy towards them.
Vanellope had no interest in learning to be a pilot or kill demons or live a peaceful life in animal crossing. She wanted to feel the wind in her hair as she sped at high speeds and crushed noobs and the occasional pro gamer with her car, and that's what she liked about slaughter race.
She didn't sleep well that night, so she took a walk around the gaming district. She passed Star Wars squadrons and scowled at it, it was taking her players away.
"What's so cool about Star Wars anyway?" Vanellope asked herself
"Lots of things, depending on who you ask" said a political spam "By the way you know anybody who wants to vote for Donald trump for president?"
"Don't listen to that guy, Biden is the way to go" said another political spam
"No way, trump is the hero we- hey where'd she go?"
Vanellope walked away and rolled her eyes. She didn't care about political spam, all they did was argue and beg her to donate money, super annoying. But not as annoying as squadrons was, it kept eating at her like the bullying she received as a glitch back home in sugar rush. While she forgave her former subjects, some feelings didn't go away. Slaughter race was much more fun than flying a spaceship.
"I must save slaughter race, but how?" Vanellope asked herself as she walked home
