(Not) Picking A Name Out of Hat

By: M14Mouse

Summary: Midoriya's friends help him pick out a hero name. Guess what? It isn't Deku. Part of Midoriya Izuku in Class 1-B

Disclaimer: Don't own them.

"What about Deku?" Midoriya said softly as he stared at his notebook. He had a list as long as he could remember. Some of them were silly like Mighty Man or Super Might. From internet forums, internships and general talk among the other years, it was coming.

Hero names.

So, Pony would suggest that they hang out to figure out their hero names.

Although, he really doesn't think that they will talk about hero names, it would be nice to hang out with friends since he hasn't done that since Kacchan. He hasn't been to a cat café in ages. Even if they don't talk about hero names, there are cats.

Cats are the best.

"Fuck no!' Pony shouted in English as the cats ran away from her.

"PONY!"

"Tsunotori!"

"What?! He isn't calling himself useless. Monoma told me what it meant! Mido isn't useless! He is the best!" Pony said as she gave everyone a look. He dipped into his chair. Hopefully, his chair could help him disappear as his face turned bright red.

"I agree with Tsunotori. No one in this class is useless," Kendo said with her hands on her hips.

"Our class president is right. Thanks to the Sports Festival. We have proven to be the superior class!" Monoma said happily.

"See? So, Deku is out. Pick another one." Pony said cheerfully.

He frowned as he stared at his book.

"I…I don't know. What have you chosen?" He asked Pony.

She beamed at him which caused him to blush.

"Roketti!" Pony said happily.

"Mine is Phantom Thief!"

"Battle Fist."

"Comicman."

"Shemage."

He frowned as he listened to his classmates and friends say their hero names. Those were super awesome names.

He couldn't think of one. He felt something brush against his shoulder. He looked to see Monoma hit shoulder against his.

"It is quite alright that you haven't decided on the hero name yet," Monoma said.

"We are first years. We can easily change our names later if we don't like it or it doesn't fit us anymore," Kendo pointed out.

"Chances of that happening are low due to the internships. Our names start to get out there. If I wait, I can never change it," He said with a sigh.

"True…I KNOW! We can help!" Pony said excitedly.

"We will help Mido decide on his hero name in no time!" Kendo added.

"It will be better than the word that shouldn't be a name."

"Agreed…we should burn that awful name," Monoma said

"YUP!" Pony added as he felt himself flushed.

He has no one protested the name before. Suddenly, a group of people…friends? Who hated and wanted him to change the name?

It was a strange feeling. It made him feel lost.

"Shout them out?" Komori asked the group.

"Good idea. I will write them down then we can narrow them down once we get a good list," Kendo said with a nod.

"Mastermind!" Fukidashi shouted almost as soon as Kendo brought the pencil and paper.

"No, that would make him sound like a villain. How about the Green Bunny?" Komori added.

"Modo is cute but he isn't a bunny," Monoma pointed out.

"When he jumps around, he does," Pony mumbled.

"Point! How about Haruto? He is bright and sunny. His presence always makes my mushrooms grow super strong!" Komori said excitedly.

He felt himself flush. Can he sink into the chair now, please?

"Oo…how about we put the good names in a hat?" Pony said excitedly.

"But wouldn't that leave his name to chance?" Fukidashi pointed out.

"He can always reject the name if he doesn't like either," Kendo said.

"Right! We want Mido to love his new hero name," Pony said excitedly.

"How about it, Mido?" Monoma said with a nug.

"As…as long as I get…get a say….sure?" He mumbled.

It was nice and weird that they cared so much about his hero name. Part of him was excited to see what they would come up with. Another part of him was terrified.

Green Bunny?

That one was pretty embarrassing.

He did have so many questions on why Fukidashi had a hat in his book bag since he told him that hats made his thought bubble feel weird.

"Yay or Nah for Haruto?" Komori asked.

"Yay," Pony said with a nod.

Kendo wrote it down on a piece of paper and dropped it into a hat.

"Flash Cannon?" Fukidashi said.

"Nah…too much like some of the fire-based heroes running around," Monoma said.

"Masashi…Mido has a strong will…or maybe it is stubbornness," Kendo said with a slight grin.

Hey! He had to get through Todoroki! He was hurting himself and…and…

He wouldn't be a future hero if he didn't try!

"Yay," The group said.

"Hey!" He protested.

"Batman!" Pony added.

"Nah. Isn't it already taken?" Monoma added.

"Daisuke?" Fukidashi suggested.

"I like it," Kendo said as she added to the hat.

"Underdog." Komori asked the group.

"Maybe?" Pony said.

"Set it to the side," Kendo suggested.

Names went on….

"Susumu."

"Ooo…good one."

"Ryu?"

"Isn't that from that fighting game?"

"Mido has strength to him," Kendo pointed out.

"Ooo…good point."

And on….

Some of them were good.

"Ryusei."

"Yay."

"Michio."

"Ooo…I like that one."

"Ren?"

"Does Mido look like a lotus flower to you?"

"Nah."

"Fortitude."

"Yay."

Some of them were bad.

Really bad.

"Captain Victory!"

"Monoma…we aren't naming Mido that!"

"Come on, Kendo…he led us to victory!"

"Just once…"

The group stared at him.

"Okay…maybe twice."

"Jackhammer!"

"That doesn't make sense!"

"Random enough to be thrown out there. We have some fun names for the hat!"

"How about Captain Greenie?!"

"No!"

"How about Lord Greenie?"

"Na Nah. Nah!"

"Come on!"

"How about Captain Mumbling?"

"NO!"

Then café workers and other patrons decided to help.

"His hair makes him look like a wildfire. So, Wild Flame."

"Yay!"

"How about Emerald? Because of his eyes."

"No."

"Ooo…Captain Emerald?"

"NO!"

"How about Fast Forward?"

"Maybe."

Once they were done, they set the hat right in front of him. He stared at it like it was hope and the plague in one box. The café was silent…Everyone's eyes were on him.

He would probably pick the Captain Mumbling or something.

His classmates…no, his friends were staring at him.

"You can always say no to the name," Kendo said gently.

"Yup! They are just suggestions, Mido," Fukidashi added.

"Good ones," Komori pointed out.

"And very bad ones," Pony added.

"True," Monoma said.

He took a deep breath and put his hand into the hat then pulled out a piece of paper.

He opened the folded piece of paper and read the name out loud.

"Michio," He said as he read the name out loud.

There was a moment of silence.

"Good choice," Kendo said.

He frowned.

"Why?"

Kendo smiled softly.

"You are our wayfinder. No matter what the situation, you guide us…even if we think that we are lost. I may be the class president but you…you are our pathfinder," Kendo said to him.

He felt himself flush again. He never thought of it that way…and…yet.

"Ahh…that is sweet," One of the patrons said.

"Disappointment. I wanted Captain Mumbling," Another one said.

The whole café started to laugh…and they might have scared some of the cats too.

He was one of the first ones to the front with his board in his hands when they did hero names in the homeroom.

"My friends went to a cat café this week and we talked about hero names. My first name sort of got rejected. The idea still stands. I wanted to be a hero that brings a smile to the people that they save. Sometimes…not everyone needs a smile but a hand…a word…or maybe a lot of them. Sometimes, words aren't enough…actions made…connections made…helping people finding their way matter. My friends said I do that…So….," He said with a blush.

He heard some familiar chuckles from his friends.

"Michio, the Wayfinder hero," He said as he flipped around his board.
