Disclaimer: I do not own Wayside School. I just finally got the four books recently though because I remembered my teacher reading the original three when I was a kid and I thought this would be a fun idea for a fanfiction.
Stephen had been taught by Myron how to turn the lights on and off, which was now his job as class president on the thirtieth storey of Wayside School. The lesson had taken a week for him to learn, but he had managed to learn how to do it.
Stephen had actually known how to turn the lights on and off even before Myron had taught him to though. The reason he took so long, having Myron teach him how to, was because he wanted to come up with his master plan.
You see, without the lights being turned on in Mrs. Jewls' class, she wouldn't be able to teach the class until they were turned on. And the reason he'd wanted Myron to teach him every day for that entire week was to tire Myron out so he wouldn't show up at school the next day.
Because, little did Mrs. Jewls know, Stephen was pure evil!
As expected, the next morning, Myron didn't show up at school, so Mrs. Jewls entered the classroom, and pulled out her role call sheet. She looked down at it, but she realized something… she couldn't read the writing on it. The text appeared to be the same color as the sheet itself, pure black! In fact, the entire classroom seemed to be the same color as the sheet - again, pure black! She then looked at her own hand and, to her surprise, it was also pure black!
Stephen rubbed his hands together, laughing maniacally. Mrs. Jewls wouldn't be able to teach the class today. So, it meant they could spend the day talking and doing nothing.
Mrs. Jewls tried to scratch her head in confusion, but due to being unable to see her head, she ended up bringing her hand all the way down to scratch her desk. She also didn't realize she was scratching her desk due to it being so dark.
"Um, Mrs. Jewls-"
"Todd, no speaking during class!" she interrupted. She immediately reached for what she thought was a piece of chalk, and turned to write Todd's name on the blackboard under the word DISCIPLINE.
Mrs. Jewls then went to grab a workbook out of her bag to begin teaching the class, but she seemed to have misplaced her bag. She felt around for it on her desk.
"Well, this doesn't make the slightest bit of sense," she said. "I always keep it right here on the chair beside my desk.
Stephen once again laughed maniacally, much louder this time though.
"Who's that?" Mrs. Jewls asked in confusion.
Stephen had succeeded in his plan. He was no longer the Class President as he had been instructed to be. He was now the Class Dictator!
The next thing Stephen knew, the light was turned on. Myron was there, yawning and rubbing one of his eyes.
"Hey, sorry, everyone. I overslept for some reason this morning. Must've been the result of spending a bit of extra time each day teaching Stephen how to turn the lights on and off. Looks like I had to teach him an extra day though, so I just turned them on."
"CURSES! MY PLAN HAS BEEN RUINED!" Stephen yelled.
"Mrs. Jewls, I think he-"
"Todd, no speaking during class!" Mrs. Jewls said, before she grabbed the chalk off her desk and turned to draw a check next to his name under the word DISCIPLINE. However, she saw his name wasn't under there. "Did I mix up today and yesterday?"
"Darn it, Mrs. Jewls, Myron ruined my plan to have you not teach us today!" Stephen shouted.
"Wait, that was a plan you had, Stephen!?" Mrs. Jewls asked, shocked and appalled at what she'd just heard. "That's it! I'm giving the Class President job back to Myron, and writing your name on the blackboard too now!" Mrs. Jewls then wrote Todd and Stephen's names on the blackboard under the word DISCIPLINE. She then turned back to continue teaching the class, but was confused to see Maurecia had the name Todd written on her face in black marker.
