"And stay down brats. You'll all be good hostages," The big man in front of us was terrifying. He went by the name of Maim. Because he maimed his enemies. His quirk was unknown but he had a gun. He killed the teacher. Because of that we were all trembling, hands shaking, some of my classmates were even holding themselves in fear. I was sweating and trembling myself.
It was just a normal day for me. Avoiding my bullies, going to classes, and daydreaming about being a hero. Like most people my quirk wasn't useful. I just had two extra mouths. Both on my hands. People said they were creepy and weird. The fact that they worked was even weirder for most. Nobody had a quirk that could help us besides our now dead teacher. Some quirks were decently powerful like being able to ignite the air into an explosion(which was fucking fine art by the way) Sadly the explosions weren't powerful and they had to focus to use it. Also the range was shit.
So whilst I was daydreaming in class today, the large man with the skull like mask over the upper part of his head came into the room and shot our teacher in the head. He looked at us with a grin that said: speak and you die. Nobody dared to speak. Nobody wanted to die. Help wouldn't arrive for who knows how long and this guy could do anything to us.
The man laughed upon seeing our fear, "Yes be scared, Fear me. Loath me. Your sorry excuses for lives just brings me more joy," You could see it. The pleasure in his smile. It made some whimper in fear. He licked his lips, "Some of you seem excited particularly," He laughed, "Don't worry you'll all be just fine as long as the heroes meet my demands," He wanted enough money to flee to America, to keep one of us as a hostage, and an unregistered, untraceable phone.
I began balling up some clay in my hand. Nervous habit. One of our classmates got the courage to speak up then. The kid with the explosion quirk. Tatsu I think his name was? He was a bully though, "Y-You can't just go bossing us around. You may have killed Mr. Makoto but you caught him by surprise," Other classmates saw him and looked at him in awe. He was really going to talk back? Tatsu saw this and his confidence was raised, "I'll put a stop to you here and now and prove I can be a hero,"
Maim pointed the gun at Tatsu, "Kid you have balls. I respect that," He shot Tatsu in the leg before he could do anything. The boy was sent to the ground in shock. His mouth opened widely to speak but nothing came out, "Let that serve as a warning shot. I don't like killin' kids but I'll do it if I need to," He looked dead serious, "Now be quiet and whimper in fear like good brats,"
I hoped the heroes would get here soon. They had to right? Nobody would be allowed to die... But Tatsu was shot. He would bleed out if he wasn't tended too. I felt the clay I had previously in my hand get swallowed up by the mouth on said hand. I gulped and shrunk into a ball in a corner. If I hid I could survive. Tatsu could wait a bit surly. My luck clearly ran out then because Maim realized he should have aimed somewhere else like next to the head. He waved his gun at me, "You, blond with the mouths on his hands, Tend to his bullet wound. It won't do to have him bleed out on me before I get what I need,"
I had two options. Let Tatsu bleed out and probably get shot myself or use my limited medical knowledge on him and try to save him. I sighed internally and crawled over to Tatsu. I ripped part of my sleeve off and wrapped it around his leg after I ripped part of his pant leg off. I made sure pressure was applied before crawling back to my corner and shrinking into myself once more. Tatsu looked disgusted. The man continued too laugh.
I was scared.
No, I was fucking terrified.
I wanted to help though. To do something. Anything. I knew a tiny bit of martial arts but not nearly enough to do anything here. I also didn't have a combat quirk. All my quirk would be good for was marriage. And I'm not sure if dancing would be a great skill for a fight and avoiding bullets. I had many regrets in life. Many of those stemmed from my lack of learning. I could have done more. I also regret giving up on my dreams. Before I had time to regret anything else I noticed the man was getting impatient
He sighed, "Damn they're sure taking their sweet ass time aren't they?" He then pointed his gun at someone, "Welp I guess I just need to kill one of you and then call it in," He pointed at a random brown haired and red eyed girl, "Bye bye!" He looked ecstatic to be taking a life... I couldn't let it happen, could I?
Before I could even think about anything else I jumped toward the girl as he pulled the trigger. I was going to die. I closed my eyes in preparation to die in place of someone else... But I'd die, saving someone else's life.
Reflexively I raised my hand in defense.
*BOOM!*
"Alright do we have any word of what's going on in there?" Eraserhead was having a bad day. Like a really bad one. First he underslept even more than usual. Second his coffee maker broke. And now he was being called to his least favorite type of crime to deal with. Stuff involving schools.
The other hero on scene shook his head, "No, All the camera's were jammed so I couldn't use my quirk,"
Eraserhead groaned, "Great. We don't even know if anyone's dead yet," There was only one class being held up at the moment. class 3-E of Mustafu Jr high, "Is anyone inside right now?" Judging from how many heroes were there. There were none. The other man shook his head and Eraserhead sighed, "Great. Any word on who is in there?"
The other man nodded shakily, "Maim. A rank villain,"
Aizawa's eyes widened. Maim was notoriously brutal. His quirk was fear factor. The more people afraid of him, the stronger he became. He used guns for intimidation until he needed to fight. Eraserhead knew he needed to go in now, "I need to go in,"
The man nodded, "Shall I call Recovery girl for anyone injured?" Coward.
Aizawa nodded, "She'll probably smack someone with her cane if we don't call in someone with a healing quirk at all,"
The other hero shivered, "Good luck Eraser,"
Aizawa nodded and stealthily went up to a window. He slipped in through the window and began making his way toward 3-E. The hallways were silent like a library. It was unnerving. Schools should never be this quiet. They should be filled with the laugher and banter of problem children.
Aizawa as a teacher hated these crimes the most. Sure he hated dealing with problem children but he wasn't heartless as much as he would like to say he is. He hated that these children would probably be traumatized by this forever. He likely killed someone already too. Knowing his past crimes and how Heroes were almost ready to catch him.
Aizawa slipped into the room silently. No sound was made. He watched the man as he paced around the room. He noticed the teacher was dead. He was too late sadly. But he couldn't act now. Eraserhead would wait for the most opportune time to take him down. He sighed, "Damn they're sure taking their sweet ass time aren't they?" He then pointed his gun at someone, "Welp I guess I just need to kill one of you and then call it in," He pointed at a random girl, "Bye bye!" He looked so ecstatic to be taking a life. That sickened Aizawa
Before Eraserhead could act he saw a blonde boy jump to protect the girl as the shot was fired. He raised his arm and a little clay butterfly came out of a mouth on his hand. It collided with the bullet.
*BOOM!*
Smoke filled the room and Aizawa took this as his queue to intervene before the situation got worse. He activated his quirk which made Maim deflate slightly. The man was off guard. Eraserhead punched him in the head and used his capture scarf to ensnare him. The man looked at him in shock, "A hero!?"
Eraserhead kept his gaze fixated on him. He quickly knocked him out without remorse and let him from like a sack of potatoes. He looked to the crowd of kids who were all stunned by the turn of events. The brown haired girl was clinging to the blond who was shocked. Either at him being there or an explosion seemingly coming out of his fist. With a quick glance he saw one of the kids was shot. Someone wrapped the wound up with their sleeve. Judging by the fact the blonds sleeve is missing and wrapped around the other kid he was the one who wrapped it, "One of you was shot. Are there any other injuries?"
Nobody raised there hand or nodded but the girl that was clinging onto the blond pointed toward their dead teacher, "M...Mr. Makoto is deaaad," She was crying into the blonds shirt now who awkwardly hugged her.
He looked at Eraserhead, "Please go grab a medic for Tatsu if you can," Aizawa knew the boy wanted to go crawl into a hole and hide.
Aizawa nodded and left without a word.
I looked at my hand shocked... Did I do that? Ignoring Kaana clinging onto me I grabbed another ball of clay and my hand-mouth began chewing. I noticed a dragon came out of it last time. Could I shape it more? My classmates looked on in awe as a butterfly came out of my hand and flew around. It was made of clay of course and it wasn't alive... I was controlling it, "Explode?" A small explosion occurred and the butterfly was gone. I looked at my hand in awe as I realised what happened. There was more to my quirk then I thought. I smiled slightly. I just made art.
Kaana looked to me, sobbing, "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved my life Katsu," She then looked at me sadly, "Why though? You didn't have to do that,"
I... Didn't know why I saved her either. I just did. My body moved on its own, "I... Don't know... My body just moved as I was thinking," I then laughed whilst rubbing the back of my head, " I guess I got lucky I had some clay in one of my mouths," God that always felt weird to say.
Kaana grabbed one of my hands, "So you can make explosive clay and control it! Were you holding out on us?" She was trying to not to focus on what just happened. To be fair I was too.
I shook my head as the rest of our classmates just started to calm down and look at me curiously. So now they weren't making fun of me, "I just did that on instinct... I didn't know I could do that before now... Can you please let me go now? Your squeezing me to death," Kaana's face grew red and she let go.
Suddenly there were some paramedics entering the room with some police officers and detectives. The paramedics came to Tatsu and began questioning him. Meanwhile the police arrested Maim and began cleaning up Mr. Makoto's body.
The detectives looked to us, "Alright would anyone be willing to answer any questions we have today? We want to know exactly what happened here," a tall man with short, black hair and somewhat rectangular black eyes was the one who asked. The entire class looked to me. The detective did as well, "Well young man?"
I gulped... Fucking traitors. I sighed nervously, "S-sure," I looked at the lingering blood of my teacher and smelt it. I almost turned green.
The man crouched down, "We can go somewhere more private if this place is uncomfortable for you. Your classmates will need to leave anyways so they can go home or too the hospital if they want to visit your other classmate,"
I nodded, "Somewhere else will be more pleasant,"
The man nodded and I stood up. He led me out of the room and into the hallways of my school, "Alright Young man can you tell me your name please?"
I put on a shaky smile, "Katsu Nendo,"
The man smiled back which helped me calm down, "Alright Nendo-kun. I am detective Naomasa Tsukauchi. Now as I said before I'd like to ask you a few questions to confirm what happened here and to share some more details so we can put Maim behind bars for as long as possible. Are you alright with that?"
I nodded, "Yeah,"
The man nodded back, "Good. So can you describe the events that happened in the classroom? Starting from when he entered?
I nodded again, "He just barged into the room. No grand entrance. He shot our teacher in the head and laughed for a bit before waving the gun at us for a bit. He stayed silent as we all tried to hide. Eventually he spoke after we began whispering to ourselves. He told us to quiet down and we'd make great hostages. Then he saw the fear on our faces and told us to fear him. Thats when my classmate tried to talk back. Before he could use his quirk he was shot in the leg. I was told to wrap it up after a few minutes so he wouldn't die. Nothing much happened after that. We waited for around I'd say twenty minutes before he got impatient. He pointed his pistol at my other classmate. Kaana. I intervened and was ready to take the bullet. But my quirk activated and saved me by making a clay bomb shaped like a dragon and sort of exploding the bullet. That was when Eraserhead showed up and saved us," Eraserhead while being an underground hero, wasn't completely unknown. I had seen him a few times whilst scrolling some obscure hero facts page.
Tsukauchi looked impressed and saddened at the same time, "I see. It was pretty heroic of you to step in like that even if a little reckless. Thank you for sharing that information. You can go outside to wait for your parents now,"
My mood soured right away. I was an orphan. A lucky one because I somehow managed to get an apartment. From my late grandparents or something but that didn't matter, "I can just go home... I'm an orphan," I rubbed the back of my head sheepishly.
Tsukauchi looked saddened once more, "I'm sorry for bringing it up,"
I waved him off, "It was unintentional," I began to walk away but I was stopped by Tsukauchi.
I turned around, "So you said you used your quirk?" Crap. Illegal quirk usage. He had a stern look on his face, "Before I say anything else I'd like to here more,"
I nodded sheepishly, "Yeah... It was on instinct I guess. I hadn't used my quirk in that way before then. I've always just had two mouths on my hands but they never did anything cool other than work like actual mouths until one chewed up some clay. I sort of just reacted and then suddenly an explosion happened,"
Tsukauchi's features softened, "I would have let you go anyways because you used it in self-defense... Say do you plan on being a hero?" He saw my shocked expression, "A friend of mine once said "every hero has a moment where they don't think. They just act" if it means they can save a life. You had that moment it seems,"
Hero. A dream that had been lost to me for oh so long... I was deemed too weak. But now my quirk. It was better now. I knew how to use it now. Or I could use it for real now. I could be a hero. I could help people now. I could follow my dreams... Silence sat upon us for a moment before I looked at Tsukauchi-san, "For years I thought I would never be a hero. But now I can actually use my quirk. I can help people. I wouldn't be useless. I plan on being a hero now,"
Tsukauchi smiled, "I look forward too possibly working with you in the future then Nendo-kun. You can go now,"
I bowed and left. I had a train to catch.
"Why do I get the feeling he'll be a problem child in the future?" Aizawa asked to nobody in particular as watched the blond boy leave the school. The last time he saw someone with fire in their eyes like that he had to teach them how to use their quirk good enough to where Nighteye took an interest.
Tsukauchi walked up to him, "He seems like he's a good kid. I'm sure if he goes to UA and you get him you'll not have to worry,"
Aizawa looked at the detective, "Easy for you to say... I watched the child blow up a bullet without knowing he could do that,"
Tsukauchi shrugged, "Well he'll learn how to control it hopefully. I can see him helping people one day," Aizawa had to agree. Tsukauchi had a point. The kid also had potential. He was untrained sure but he had the potential to be a hero. That was all that mattered.
Aizawa nodded and sighed, "Still. He seems like the type to give me a headache," The two then looked to each other before remembering they needed to go do paperwork, "Back to the station?"
Tsukauchi nodded, "Back to the station,"
Honestly I'm nervous for how this'll go. I just had the idea of "what if someone had Deidara's powers in My Hero Academia?" And this was born. I don't know why I made his power awakening scene happen how it did but I'm glad it did happen that way. This gives me a lot of free space for next chapter. I don't expect this to be popular but I hope someone finds this and likes this. Because I did. And I will try to continue to write this.
