Libby was still awake. She hadn't slept since she was Embraced. She had spent the whole time since Cole left writing all kinds of theories on Vampires. She looked at the time 7:32 am. Probably just about time for breakfast. She got up, left her bedroom and went downstairs. When she got down there she saw Leah who immediately hugged her.
She asked "Oh Libby are you alright? You collapsed last night when you took out the garbage. I was so worried"
She held her daughter feeling terrible about last night. As she hugged her Libby started to feel a force come over her. It was the same feeling she got when she ate that Rat last night. She thought about biting her mother's neck and drinking her blood for a moment. Luckily, she snapped herself out of it.
"I'm fine. mom." Libby said.
Leah looked at Libby and said "Are you sure? You feel cold."
Libby said "I'm sure, mom. Can I go visit Molly today?"
"Well, if you're sure you're ok. Then that's alright. But have some breakfast first." Leah said
Libby said, "That's alright, I'll pick something up on the way."
Libby then went to leave her home. She was right in front of her doorway. She put on her boots and opened the door. It was a bright sunny day today. Libby was a little worried, Cole said that sunlight didn't kill Vampires, it just made them weaker. Libby extended her hand into the sunlight. It tingled a little but wasn't painful. She then walked fully into the sunlight. Her body tingled but it wasn't painful. Just a little uncomfortable. She started walking down the street, heading towards Molly's house. On the way she stopped at the park and tried to get something to eat, but all the animals were too fast for her. Eventually, she gave up and decided to just head to Molly's.
Libby made it to Molly's house. She knocked on the door and waited for Molly to answer.
Molly then answered the door "Libby!" Hugging her "I'm so glad you're here"
For a moment Libby got that same need to feed but she shook it off.
"Can I come in?" Libby asked.
Molly smiled and said "Of course, come on in Libby"
Libby walked into Molly's house and they went up to Molly's room.
Libby then asked, "So, where's Scratch?"
"Oh he's at some kind of Ghost meeting. Something bout other supernatural creatures or something" Molly answered.
Libby found that part interesting "What do you mean? Other supernatural creatures? You mean, like Vampires?"
"Yeah, Vampires, Zombies, Werewolves, Scratch told me they all exist. Apparently, the Chairmen dying means he has to deal with them. So he's busy today. So, wanna hang out? My whole day is free" Molly said.
Libby then spoke nervously "Yeah, umm, about the supernatural thing. I kind of have something to show you."
Molly watched as Libby opened her mouth revealing her fangs. Libby then extended them. Molly had a lot of confusion and surprise on her face. The realisation set in. Libby was a Vampire. Libby closed her mouth and they both just looked at each other.
"So, um. You're a Vampire?" Molly said.
Libby nodded and said "Uh-huh" waiting for Molly's reaction.
Molly then said "That is SOO COOL! Both my best friends are supernatural creatures!"
Molly hugged Libby. Only now realising that Libby's body was cold.
Molly pulled back and asked, "So, uhh, is your body being cold part of being a Vampire or do you need a blanket or something?"
Libby said "I think it's just part of being a Vampire, my body's been room temperature since I was Embraced"
Molly raised an eyebrow and asked, "Embraced?"
Libby, realising Molly's confusion "Oh that's the word for when a Vampire turns a Human into a Vampire. I was Embraced."
Molly then replied "Ohh, I got it. So, how long have you been a Vampire?"
"Since last night, my Sire bit me, I passed out and a few hours later I woke up as a Vampire," Libby answered.
"Sire?" Molly asked.
"Oh, haha, sorry. My Sire is like my Vampire dad. He made me a Vampire and I'm a Fledgling." Libby said.
"Ohh, and what's a Fledgling," Molly asked.
Libby looked at Molly and said "I'm not entirely sure. It's like a new Vampire who's being trained by a Sire. I'm still being taught everything about Vampires. My Sire says I'm going to be meeting the "other" Vampires tonight."
Molly then asked, "Wait, how many vampires are in Brighton?"
Libby shrugged "I don't know"
She didn't know how many Vampires were in Brighton or really anything about them other than what Cole told her. After a bit more talking, Molly was all caught up on everything Libby knows about Vampires.
Molly decided to ask "So, umm, do you, you know, eat people now?"
Libby looked at Molly and said "N, no. Not yet at least, so far I've only eaten a Rat."
"Phew, that's good to know. Oh, umm, sorry if that's offensive or anything" Molly said relieved.
Libby chuckled a little "No it's alright. My Sire says that he eats Humans, but I don't want to. Although, Vampires only need 2 or 3 bags of blood a day. At least, that's what my Sire said"
"But won't they become a Vampire if you bite them?" Molly asked.
"I don't think that's how it works, I passed out when I was being Embraced so I think there's a bit more to it than just biting," Libby said.
As Libby said that, her stomach began to rumble.
"Hey, what time is it?" She asked Molly.
Molly looked at her clock and said "About 11 I think, why?"
"I uhh, I didn't have breakfast," Libby said.
Molly got up and said "Oh well let's have some lunch, I can make some sandwiches or-"
"Actually" Libby interrupted "Do you anything, more, bloody than that"
Molly looked at her, realising what she meant and said "Ohhh, right because of the Vampire thing. I'm not sure how I would feel about you eating an animal. Is there anything else I can get you?"
Libby looked back at Molly and said, "I don't think so, I'm a Vampire now I kind of need blood."
Molly and Libby looked at each other for a moment.
Libby then said "I'm gonna go find something to eat, see you later"
Molly then said "Later Libby"
Before leaving Libby turned around and said "Oh yeah, one more thing. Promise me that you'll never tell anyone I'm a Vampire. It's supposed to be a massive secret"
Molly said "I pinky promise not to tell anyone that you're a Vampire Libby" Libby and Molly exchanged a smile and Libby left.
Libby was in an Alleyway looking for Rats. She ate a few of them until suddenly, Cole showed up.
He spoke "Hey Lib,"
Libby, a little surprised to see him, said "Oh uh, hi Cole"
Cole then said, "Change of Plans, the Head Vampire says that wants to meet you ASAP. Follow me and I'll take you to our secret hideout"
Before Libby could say anything Cole started walking off and Libby followed. After some walking, they made it to an old abandoned cemetery. Libby was a little put off by the spookiness of it. She followed Cole through it.
While there Libby asked, "So, uh, you said Vampires have powers, right?"
Cole, still looking forward, said "Yeah, but you're still a fledgling, so it'll take time for you to learn them. Also, the fact that you don't drink Human Blood yet is an issue too."
Libby, a little confused by this said, "Huh? You said I didn't have to drink Human Blood?"
Cole chuckled again "No, not to live. But, if you want to become more powerful, you're going to need to start drinking it. Vampire power comes from drinking Human Blood. Sure you could do the same with animal blood but you'd need to drink a lot of it. You'd need to drink like 10x more Animal blood to get the power Human blood would give you. You'd also never be able to unlock most of the powers Vampires have. But that's up to you, not everyone has the stomach to kill Humans. Even then there's always consensual feeding. But that's a topic for another day, we're here."
They had made it to a large mansion in the Graveyard. It looked run down and decrepit.
Cole opened the door for Libby and said "After you, Lib"
Libby walked through and saw a large open hallway with a red carpet. There was a massive flight of stairs with 2 hallways next to it. Cole started walking down the right hallway and motioned for Libby to follow. After a while of wandering the mansion, Cole stopped at a door.
He looked at Libby and said "Alright, Lib. This is it, you're going to meet the Vampire Council as the newest member of our little community. You ready?"
Libby looked at him and said "I, I guess"
Cole opened the door. It appeared to be some kind of courtroom. There were rows of seats on either side of the room leading up to a judge's bench with 3 Vampires sitting at it. The one on the left was a Man that looked and dressed kind of like a typical Vampire in the Movies. He kind of reminded her of Dracula. On the right was a woman in a fancy red dress with what looked like expensive makeup and jewellery. In the middle was what looked like a little girl, no older than 11 or 12. Despite her physical appearance, she was dressed in a very fancy dress with makeup and large hair. She was the Head Vampire. She had a very serious look on her face. Cole and Libby walked up to them.
Cole spoke "Hello, my honors. This is the new girl Libby I told you about."
Libby sheepishly smiled and waved at them. Revealing her fangs as she smiled. The council looked down on them in disappointment.
The Head Vampire spoke "I see you made another one, Cole. How many new Vampires have you made in the last month?"
Cole gulped "N, no more then 6. But I gave them all the basics after Embracing them"
"Silence," the Head Vampire said.
She then spoke again "Tell me, why did you Embrace this Fledgling?"
Cole looked very nervous. Libby was looking at him curiously, why did he Embrace her? It's not like he ever actually told her why he did that.
Cole then told the story behind Libby's Embrace "w, well, I was out one night on a moonlit walk when I stopped for a bite to eat. I uhh, I got a little overzealous and drained her dry"
Libby was shocked at this. Cole, killed her? She figured that the Embraced required more than a bite but she didn't think it involved dying. Then again, everyone has been telling her that her body was cold.
Cole then continued "I felt really bad when I realised she was a kid, so I kind of Embraced her out of guilt."
The Vampire council looked at him with disdain.
The Head Vampire then asked "And how many times have you gotten "Overzealous" before?" in a slightly sarcastic and disappointed tone.
Cole gulped again "It's just, when you're in the zone, drinking blood, you can kind of lose yourself. You know you've all done it before"
The Head Vampire spoke again "Yes, that has happened to all Vampires from time to time, but most new Vampires don't Embrace their Victims out of guilt."
Libby was still taking in the fact that Cole accidentally killed her, now there was the possibility of her losing control stacked on top of that. The council spent another couple of minutes berating Cole for his recklessness before talking to Libby. The Head
Vampire then asked Libby "Tell me, child, how long have you been a Vampire?"
Libby, very nervous, said "L, Less than a day ma'am."
The Head Vampire pondered "Hmm, and how much do you know about Vampires?"
Libby fumbled a little and pulled out her notes "I uh, uh, I know that" She read her notes quickly "We don't burn in the sun, we're just weakened by it, we're Immortal, have no reflections, can turn into Bats, have super strength, that we need at least 2 or 3 bags of blood a day, that we need to be invited into houses, we're allergic to garlic, are burned by holy symbols and some other weirder things. Also that we get power from drinking Human blood"
The Head Vampire stared Libby down and asked, "Is that it?"
Libby nodded and said "That's all I know, Ma'am." with a very nervous look on her face.
The Head Vampire then said "So, you're caught up on the basics, but there is still much you need to learn. There is a library in this Mansion with generations of Vampire Lore. You may use it to educate yourself on everything you need to know but know this."
The Head Vampire's eyes turned black and red and she began to speak in a much more threatening voice than before.
"If you ever reveal our existence to anyone, we will murder them. You get 3 strikes before we murder you. Vampire Society is to remain a secret at all costs. Should wider society find out about us, mankind may very well exterminate us so it is vital that you keep our secret at all costs. Do you understand?" The Head Vampire said menacingly.
Libby looked at them very scared and said "L, loud and clear Ma'am"
The Head Vampire went back to her normal mannerisms and said "Good, I'm glad you understand the severity of our situation"
Libby then asked "b, but I have a question."
The Head Vampire looked at Libby.
Libby looked at her and asked, "W, what about people who already know about the Supernatural?"
The Head Vampire then said, "I supposed you're talking about your Molly friend, right?"
Libby was shocked by this. Does she know Molly? Was Molly in danger?
Libby then asked, "How do you know Molly?"
The Head Vampire said "We all know Molly. The one who vanquished the old Chairmen and is the closest companion to the new chairmen. The Supernatural Communities always keep a close eye on each other. Making sure to keep an eye out for all potential enemies"
This surprised Libby but she figured it made sense. She did kill the leader of one of the supernatural factions.
After that, The Head Vampire made one more decree "From now on, you will be self-taught Libby, as stated, everything you need to know is in this Mansion's Library. I will have someone guide you there so you will know where to look for your information. Understand?"
Libby nodded. They were then dismissed.
When they left the room there was a different Vampire waiting for them outside. He was tall and buff.
He said, "Come with me and I'll show you the Library." Libby followed him and Cole walked after her.
Cole began to speak "Lib listen, I'm really sorry about the whole, killing you thing I was waiting for the right time to tell you"
Libby ignored him and kept walking. She was still kind of processing all of this. That was a lot to take in and right now, all Libby wanted to do was get home and rest for a bit. Feed her Turtles and read a book. After the guard showed Libby where the Library was she left and went home. By now it was getting dark. On her way home she noticed that she was starting to feel stronger. Cole was right Vampires are stronger when it's dark. Libby was pretty much on her own now. Even if the council hadn't told her to, she didn't trust Cole anymore after finding out what he did. If it wasn't for him, she wouldn't be a Vampire. It began to rain as Libby was on her way home, Libby was beginning to feel sick. After some walking, she made it home. She opened the door and entered her house.
Immediately Leah hugged Libby and asked "Where have you been? You haven't been home all day?"
Libby only now realised that she was out for a while.
Libby then said, "Oh sorry I forgot what time it was, I was hanging out with Molly."
Leah then asked "Turtledove, are you ok? You feel cold. Are you chilly?"
Libby smiled and said, "I'm fine mom, I'm just going to go to my room."
Leah stopped Libby and said, "Wait, I already made dinner."
"Thanks, Mom, but I feel kind of sick. I think I'm just going to go to bed" Libby replied as she made her way to her bedroom.
Leah was worried about Libby. She didn't have breakfast and was now skipping dinner. Maybe she should take her to the doctor?
Libby made it to her room, she fed her Turtles and sat down to read a book and get her mind off of things. After about an hour Libby began to feel very nauseous. She started heaving, she got up and ran to the bathroom. She was definitely going to be sick. Libby began to vomit blood. It was clearly from the Rats, maybe one of them was diseased or something. When she was done, she flushed the toilet. She couldn't let her mother see this. After making sure it was clean she wiped her mouth clean, rinsed her mouth out and left.
Leah was outside the bathroom, now more worried than ever "Libby, are you alright?"
Libby smiled and said "Yeah, I think I just ate something bad. I'm going to go get some rest." Leah was very worried about her daughter.
Libby laid her head down and drifted off to sleep. She should probably try to eat something else besides Rats tomorrow.
