Dakota and Wes were waiting impatiently in the mall, passing back and forth. Eventually, after a hour past the time Kat and Stephan were to meet with them, they headed back to the farm, to tell the others. As they were pulling in, Wes saw a strange car parked in front of the house. When the truck stopped, he jumped out, heading to the house, he burst inside, running to the living room. He stopped abruptly

"Catman! Winnie! What are you doing here?" he shook his head turning to Mr. and Mrs. Coolidge "Something's happened-" he was cut off by Dakota who ran into the room

"Kat and Stephan are missing!"

Catman sat forward "Kat's missing?"

Dakota jumped, spinning to face him "Catman, Winnie, what are you doing here?"

"We decided to visit. What's going on? You said Kat and some one else were missing?" Winnie sounded worried

Dakota spun on her heal, beginning to pace, and Mrs. Coolidge led her to a chair "Take a deep breath, then you and Wes can tell us what's happened."

Dakota took a deep breath, biting her lip, terror in her eyes "Kat and Stephan left for the pet shop. We told them to be back in half a hour. We waited for a hour after we told them to be back, then we headed back here. We searched the streets, and asked in the pet shop-" she broke off, sobbing "What if we were wrong about Stephan? What if he did something to her?"

Wes shook his head "No. He did nothing like that."

"How would you know? He won't talk to anyone, we have no idea what he's like."

Wes sighed "Look. I'm the one he's sharing a room with. I know of his nightmares. I can hear a few of the things he calls out. He's a Christian, and he wont let anyone get hurt besides him. Also, after the way I acted for a long time...I can tell easier if a person isn't...good."

Catman rubbed his face "Can someone tell us who exactly you're talking about?"

"Stephan's a foster kid we've taken in." Hank turned to Dakota "I agree with Wes, he wouldn't do anything."

A knock on the door startled them, and they rushed to the door. Wes reached it first, and opening it, he saw a young girl standing on the porch, holding a envelope. She looked up at Wes, and held out the envelope

"I was told to give this to you."

Wes took it, nodding to the girl. Just as he was closing the door, he stopped "What did the person giving you this look like?"

The girl shrugged "Tall, big, but his face was in shadows."

Wes smiled "Thanks. Can you get back?"

The girl nodded, and after pointing to a bike, she skipped off. Wes closed the door, and after looking at the others, who were standing behind him, he ripped open the envelope. His face paled as he saw what was on the letter, he gulped, looking up

"It says

'This is Kat. Stephan is with me

some men have us, and they want

$350,000 at the bench near the

north entrance of the town if

want to see either of us again

I love you'"

Wes looked up, and watched as everyone's faces grew white. Hank stepped closer to him

"What else is there?"

Wes froze, then he looked down "There's blood on it."

Dakota gasped, then as Mrs. Coolidge wavered, she quickly grabbed her arm, supporting her. Winnie put a hand on Mrs. Coolidge's arm

"You don't know it's from Kat." she spun to Catman "Call the police."

Mrs. Coolidge nodded, taking a deep breath "I know it may not be Kat. But I don't know what I'll do if ether of them is hurt."

Catman came back in, frowning "The police should be arriving soon."

The police arrived in a few minutes, and after a lot of questions, they decided to do what the note said, but instead of using real money, they would use counterfeit money. The police would wait, hidden, till the captives were safe, then they would go after the kidnappers. Mr. Coolidge would be the one to hand over the money, while the rest of his family would be waiting in safety, in a restaurant.

When Mr. Coolidge got out of the car at the bench, he took a deep breath, and gave a quick prayer. The sound of car doors slamming brought him around, and he saw two men, dressed in dark clothes, each holding the bound arms of his two children. They were both pale, and Mr. Coolidge could see the fear in Kat's eyes. He winced as he saw Stephan's face covered in bruises, and his head hanging, stumbling as he walked.

He stepped forward, but froze as the man holding Stephan pulled out a gun, and held it to his head

"What's going to happen is my colleague will walk towards you, with your little girl, and you're going to hand the money to him, take the girl and leave."

Mr. Coolidge frowned "But what about Stephan? That was the deal."

"Well... you could say it was. But you don't expect us to get captured as soon as we hand over the kids, do you?" He shoved the gun barrel of the gun into Stephan's side, and he cried out, trying to pull away, but freezing as his father tapped his arm with the gun. "Besides, he and I have some unfinished business."

The other man, and Kat, were at Mr. Coolidge by now, and he handed over the money. The man, shoving Kat towards Mr. Coolidge, spun around, and ran towards the other man, who was shoving Stephan into the car.

Kat sobbed, leaning into his embrace, as she watched the car pull away from the side walk. Mr. Coolidge rubbed her back lightly, frowning at the ropes on her wrists. One of the police men came out of hiding, holding a knife. He handed it to Mr. Coolidge, who kneeled down beside Kat, once her hands were released, she flung herself into her father's arms. Mr. Coolidge hugged her, then pulled away, looking her in the face

"What did that man mean, when he said he and Stephan had unfinished business?"

Kat bowed her head, "He's Stephan's father. Stephan said he was in jail twice, and that he must have escaped."

The police man stepped forward quickly "Miss. I'm sorry to ask you this, but what was that man in jail for selling drugs, and abusing his son?" he glanced at Mr. Coolidge "We got a notification saying a man of the kidnappers description escaped. He was in jail with those charges." He turned back to Kat who nodded

"Stephan told me that his father was sent to jail for selling drugs. After that he was sent back to jail. I'm assuming from what Stephan told me it was because of abuse."

The police man nodded and spoke into his radio, then turning back to Mr. Coolidge he looked him in the eyes "We'll capture them."

As the police man left, Mr. Coolidge turned back to Kat "You Okay?"

"Yes, I wasn't hurt. They only hurt Stephan."

Mr. Coolidge bowed his head, then looked up "He was talking to you?"

Kat laughed "Yes. I think he was just doing it to comfort me at first, then I think he started trusting me."

Once the kidnappers were several miles out of the town, they stopped, and opened the case of money. Stephan's father held the gun, glaring at Stephan, as his colleague began counting the money. Suddenly he threw the money down in disgust,

"It's fake!"

Stephan's father growled, and reached for Stephan over the seats "They'll wish thy never thought of that when they find your body in the ditch." he pulled Stephan out of the car, and tumbled down to the cement, crying out as blows rained down on his stomach, back, head, and legs. After what seemed to be hours to Stephan, his vision began to fade, and he fell unconscious.

Voices drifted into Stephan's thoughts

"Over here! I found him!"

"Someone call a ambulance!"

"Hang in there."

"Sir, the kidnappers have been apprehended."

The sounds became jumbled, a buzzing noise grew in his ears, then silence once again.

The next thing Stephan heard was a beeping sound, one he was accustomed to. The noise of a hospital room. He opened his eyes, squinting them in the light, he saw Kat, sitting in a chair by the bed. Turning her head, her eyes widened

"He's awake!" she turned to look behind her, and grinned. Turning back to him, she looked serous "How do you feel?"

Stephan thought about each limb, and grimmest "Hurt. A lot." He heard a gasp, and saw the Coolidges, Dakota, Wes, and two strangers standing at the foot of his bed. Dakota grinned

"You talked!"

Stephan shrugged, looking at the two strangers curiously,

"This is Catman, and Winnie. Catman's a cousin, and Winnie a friend." Hank nodded to them "Catman, Winnie, I'd like you to meet Stephan."

Stephan nodded, then looked to Kat "What happened?"

She looked to her parents, and Mr. Coolidge put a hand on his wife's arm

"While we were doing the exchange, one of the police men who was hiding put a tracker on the car. We followed it, and found you on the side of the road, a few went ahead, and captured...your father, while we stayed to help you. The men are in jail now."

Stephan closed his eyes "Thank the Lord." Kat had to lean in to here what he said, it was said so quietly.

She smiled, then looked at her parents pleadingly, as she jumped up and down. Mrs. Coolidge shook her head, smiling, and handed her a package which she took and placed on Stephan's lap

"Open it!"

Stephan opened his eyes, and looked curiously at her, she groaned

"It's for you. Open it!"

Catman laughed "You'd better just open it."

Stephan shrugged then picked up the package, pulling off the hastily wrapped paper, to reveal the leather dog collar that he had seen in the pet shop, he looked up confused, and Hank laughed

"So, what's his name?"

Stephan looked towards Kat, who smiled "We're giving you the dog. So you need to find a name."

His eyes widened slightly, then he lightly touched the collar "Amigo."

Kat nodded, and put a hand on Stephan's shoulder, he jerked, and tensed, but after a second he relaxed "Yes, Amigo is his name."

The End.
