Chapter 18 Avengers: Assemble

Jay's point of view

"OK , it's time to begin again. This time we're watching Avengers: Assemble also known as Avengers 1 or Marvel's Avengers. Serendipity, would you do the honours please?"
"Of course"

"When Thor's evil brother, Loki, gains access to the unlimited power of the energy cube called the Tesseract, Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., initiates a superhero recruitment effort to defeat the unprecedented threat to Earth. Joining Fury's "dream team" are Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, the Black Widow and Hawkeye."

The Marvel Studios logo appears on the screen then the screen goes bright blue and the paramount logo appears.

"That was the Tesseract"

A sinister voice speaks about the Tesseract.

There is chaos at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base where the Tesseract is. Loki has bewitched Clint Barton (Hawkeye) and Dr Erik Selvig and has them under his control. He fights with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Fury and he, (Loki) Barton and Selvig escape with a briefcase. The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents give chase and then the base begins to collapse. Hill tries to subdue Barton as the base implodes on itself. While on a vehicle being driven out of there Phil Coulson watches on in horror.

Fury gives very clear orders.

First, Coulson calls in Natasha Romanoff (The Black Widow)who is working undercover on a mission. Coulson tells her that 'Barton has been compromised' Coulson instructs her to get Dr Bruce Banner (The Incredible Hulk) while he gets Tony Stark (Iron Man) Natasha grabs her phone and her high heels as she leaves.

A small girl runs to find Dr Banner who goes with her. Not realising that it is a trap of sorts. Natasha Romanoff talks Bruce into accompanying her to speak to Coulson and Fury. They talk about The Hulk. (The other guy)

"Why is no one mentioning that the Tesseract is one of the 6 infinity stones which control the Universe?" Thor demands.

Fury is on a World Security Council meeting stream. One of the councillors calls the Avengers "a handful of freaks"

Steve Rogers is beating the holy living hell out of a punching bag as his mind flashes back to the day he crashed the Valkyrie and survived. He knocks the bag off its chain and sets up another. Fury is standing across from him and asks if he has trouble sleeping and Steve asks if he's here with a mission which he is and says Howard Stark fished the tesseract out of the ocean and says there's a debriefing packet back at Steve's apartment. Steve says Howard should have left the tesseract in the ocean

Stark Tower

Tony is underwater in the Iron Man suit taking Stark Tower off the grid and making it self-sustaining. As he does this and flies back to the Tower he speaks to Pepper. Stark Tower is right above Grand Central Station. Jarvis says that Coulson is on the line and is insisting on speaking to him. Tony tells Jarvis to grow a spine and that he and Pepper are going on a date. Tony tells Pepper that Stark Tower was her idea, and she deserves 12 or 15% of the credit and then he calls her out about the elevator. He tells her the next building will say 'Potts' and Pepper says it will be the lease. Jarvis says that his protocols are being overridden and that Tony needs to talk to Coulson who is in the Elevator. Coulson hands Tony (via Pepper) a computer. Tony is jealous that Pepper is calling Coulson by his given first name (Phil) She says Tony has a ton of Homework, and she's going to DC that night. Then she whispers something to him. They kiss and Coulson says he will take Pepper to LaGuardia so that she can fly to DC.

The team meets for the first time.

Coulson and Steve discuss what's next.

Loki prepares to battle the Avengers

Bruce, Cap and Nat meet and then the Helicarrier shows up. The Helicarrier goes into Stealth Mode. Various members of s.h.i.e.l.d. Talk about this.

An orchestra at a party in Germany. Loki bursts in and bewitches everyone before causing utter chaos. Cap flies in to stop Loki. The helicarrier arrives with Widow, Stark and Banner

Tony says "make your move reindeer games"

An uneasy greeting between Tony and Cap. They grab Loki and put him on the Helicarrier. Tony teases Cap. Thor shows up complete with lightning. Thor knocks Tony on his butt and then Tony retaliates by following. Nat tells Cap to sit this one out because Thor and Loki are gods. Ever the devout Catholic Cap says that there's only one God. Loki and Thor fight and argue on earth, Loki says he remembers being overshadowed by Thor. Thor says Earth is under his protection. Loki argues that he is the rightful king. Thor recognises that Loki is being controlled. Tony shows up and knocks Thor into a tree. They argue. When Thor says Tony doesn't know what he's dealing with Tony replies Shakespeare in the Park and calls Thor a tourist under his breath. Thor throws Mjölnir at him and then zaps him with a powerful bolt of electricity which overpowers the suit. Thor and Tony fight through trees. Thor's strength causes the Iron Man suit to malfunction. They get back onto the helicarrier after Steve stops them from fighting by throwing his red white and blue Frisbee at them. Thor slams Mjölnir into it. Loki is in custody. Fury tells him that earth has no quarrel with Asgard. Loki replies that an ant has no quarrel with a boot.

Fury and Loki argue and Fury asks if he wants a magazine or something.

A science discussion ensues. Tony and Bruce introduce themselves to each other. Fury tries to get them organised. An argument ensues and Fury makes a reference that Steve understands causing Tony to roll his eyes. Tony says he cannot do the equation without all the variables. They discuss the arc reactor running Stark Tower (which was Pepper's idea?)

Science discussions

Bruce describes the Avengers as this.

Tony says that Bruce's accident should have killed him because of how much gamma he was exposed to Bruce asks if Tony thinks the Hulk saved him for a reason.

Phase two is WMDs

Steve learns what S.H.I.E.L.D. is really up to.

Phil talks to Thor about Bilgesnipe

Big man in a suit of armour take that off, and what are you?

Steve says this to Tony. Tony replies 'genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.' then Tony says that Steve is a Laboratory experiment

Nat is seen talking to Loki, she tells part of her story. He threatens her and calls her a mewling quim. Nat calls him a monster. Then she realises what he's up to.

Fear the Hulk's Wrath

Bruce turns green when the engine blows. He chases Nat. He gets put into the glass case thing that Loki was in earlier and lands somewhere where a kindly older gentleman helps him.

Tony and Bruce tell Fury they're working on finding the cube.

A toxic chemical mixture that creates chaos

A huge cacophonous argument ensues.

Tony and Steve fix number 1 engine.

Helping Hawkeye

Nat hits Barton really hard in the head and undoes Loki's enchantments.

The battle of New York

Tony realises that Loki is using the arc reactor that controls Stark Tower. He and the team head back to New York and the Chitauri come through the portal and the battle begins. Loki and Thor fight on the balcony of Stark Tower. Cap tells the NYPD and FDNY to get the civilians away from the battle (Author's observation: I think the writers took some inspiration from the chaos that was the September 11th attacks, not saying that to be offensive just making an observation. I don't know why that came into my mind it just did. The unknown nature of what occurred in NYC the unpreparedness of the EMTs - not their fault they just never expected such an attack to happen - no one really did - it just reads as a very similar situation. We need to stop ridiculing people for having ideas or the world is truly gonna go to hell in a handcart.)

Tony and Loki

Tony offers Loki a drink and they have a conversation. Tony prepares the MK7 armour for the upcoming battle. Loki throws Tony through the living room window and the suit deploys and rescues him.

Bruce shows up

Loki gets body slammed into the floor repeatedly and then squished by the Hulk who calls Loki a 'puny god' and stalks off.

A catastrophe of epic proportions

Fury says the WSC have issued a nuke which is headed straight for NYC and has an ETA of 3 minutes. Tony flies the nuke into the portal (Jarvis tries to call Pepper who is watching, horrified on the Stark Industries jet, her phone is on silent, and she misses the call!) Nat uses Loki's sceptre to close the portal. Tony falls backwards through it and Bruce (as the hulk) grabs him and stops him from crash landing.

Shawarma

Upon regaining consciousness, Tony confesses that he wants to try Shawarma - he doesn't know what it is, but he wants to try it

Rebuilding

Tony and Pepper are seen rebuilding the tower but instead of Stark Tower, it's now Avengers tower.
