The sun is almost down and invisible at Bayriver County Sanitarium. A car familiar to the Guardhouse Guard approaches the guard house. That is because arriving for the graveyard shift is security guard Gabriel Sterner, who pulls up to the window. Because the Guardhouse Guard recognizes him, he just nods and presses the button to open the gate. After the gate opens, Gabriel drives into the hospital's grounds.
Orderlies go down the hallways, going from room to room to serve the patients their dinner. Greg and Marty are among them. This is their second day on the job and they are starting to get the hang of it. Even though they're still trying to adjust some of the creepiness of some of the more disturbing patients, they enjoy the fact that they are helping the patients. After going down their hallway of patients, they finally arrive at the last patient in their hallway; Kevin Lassiter.
Greg unlocks the door to Lassiter's room and opens the door for Marty to push the cart into the room. Like before when they first met him, Lassiter is just standing there and avoiding eye contact with the new orderlies. He doesn't even acknowledge their presence.
"Good evening, Mr. Carter." greeted Marty as he strolled in the cart.
"We brought you some dinner." Greg informed Lassiter.
But Lassiter doesn't even turn to see his food. He continues to ignore the two men as they set up his food at a nearby table.
"Enjoy your meal." said Marty as he strolls the cart out of the room.
"Have a good evening, Kevin." said Greg as he leaves the room.
Greg closes the door and locks it, leaving Lassiter alone. He doesn't even turn to contemplate on whether or not to eat his food. He just continues to stand there.
Greg and Marty enter the break room with their own trays of food. They sit down at a table with other employees, who are either talking to each other, watching TV, reading books, or just spacing out. Eitherway, they are not paying attention to their fellow co-workers around them.
Gabriel enters the break room, carrying a paper bag, which he sets down at the coffee table. He looks around to see if anyone in the room notices him. Once he sees that the coast is clear, he opens the coffee pot, which has just finished brewing fresh hot coffee. He pulls out a black bottle and opens it up. He takes another look around to see if anyone has caught him yet. Then he proceeds to pour the clear liquid contents from the black bottle. He stirs the pot and proceeds to pour the coffee into the paper cups at the table.
"Hey, I got sandwiches for everyone!" Gabriel announces to the staff
The staff stampede over to the table as he pulls out plastic bags of sandwiches. They each take a sandwich bag as Gabriel proceeds to pass the cups of coffee around.
"Have some coffee with that." Gabriel suggests to his co-workers, who take the bait.
Greg and Marty already have food. But they have small cartons of milk.
"How about some coffee?" asked Marty.
"Yeah. I can use some." replied Greg.
"I'll go get us some."
"Cool."
Marty gets up from the table and heads for the line of employees getting coffee from Gabriel.
Back in his room, Lassiter has finally sat down at his table to have his dinner. As he eats his food, he hears strange noises that sound like people falling on to the floor. He hears faint groanings. He is very confused by this. But he decides to just ignore it.
In the main security room, two security officers are sitting at their desks, drinking their coffees, and watching the monitors that show every spot of the hospital. The first guard turns to a monitor and is confused and disturbed by what he sees.
"What is going on here?" the first guard asked himself.
"What is it?" asked the second guard.
"Check this out."
Before they can further investigate, Gabriel walks into the security room.
"Evening, guys." Gabriel greets his co-workers.
"Hello." said the second guard.
"Hey, Gabriel. Come check this out." requested the first guard.
Gabriel takes a look at the monitor and realizes what has been discovered.
"Weird, right?" asked the first guard.
"Yeah, it is." replied Gabriel.
"I think we should check it out." the first guard insists.
"Oh, That won't be necessary." replied Gabriel.
Suddenly, Gabriel pulls out a gun with a silencer and shoots the first guard in the back of the head. Before the second guard can react, Gabriel shoots him in the forehead. Both guards are dead. Gabriel walks out of the security room. He walks down the corridor where several bodies of dead employees lay around the hallway floor. He passes by the break room, ignoring the dead employees who ate and drank the poisoned food and coffee that he provided them earlier. Greg and Marty among the dead.
Lassiter has finished eating his dinner and is back to just standing and staring at the wall. He hears somebody walking closer and closer to his door. The door to his room unlocks. This genuinely confuses Lassiter and he actually turns to see what is happening. This is very unusual. The door opens and walking in is Gabriel.
"Hello, Mr. Lassiter." greeted Gabriel.
Lassiter gives a "what the fuck are you doing here?" expression on his face.
"Time to go." announced Gabriel.
Lassiter has a puzzled expression on his face. What does he mean by this?
"I'm setting you free." Gabriel informs him.
Lassiter cocks with a "You're doing what?" reaction on his face.
Gabriel is escorting Lassiter with chains to make it look like the escort is legit. Nobody would question this, right? Suddenly, a few employees turn from the corner and notice them. They realize that something isn't right here.
"What are you doing with that patient?" asked the first employee.
"He shouldn't be out of his room." stated the second employee.
"Well...uh..." Gabriel attempts to lie. But he cannot think of one. So he decides to make a rash decision. "You know what..."
Rather than thinking up a lie, Gabriel pulls out his gun and shoots them both in the head. The two employees drop to the floor to their deaths. Now does Lassiter realize just how serious this guy is. He is really helping him escape and he's willing to murder people to get it done. What a gift to him.
Gabriel leads him out of the building unseen. That is because everyone else is dead. Gabriel's car is parked in front of the building, ready and waiting for them. Gabriel places Lassiter into the car.
"We're getting out of here, Kevin." stated Gabriel as he closed the passenger door.
Gabriel gets into the driver's seat and drives off with his crazed killer patient. What does he intend to do with Lassiter?
Police have taken over the entire hospital. They are checking the list of patients to make sure that every patient is in their rooms. A large chunk of the staff were killed. But other staff that were no threat to Gabriel's plans were spared. Running into the building with urgency and horror is the now thirty-eight year old HOMICIDE DETECTIVE Andrew DeLuca. He's more experienced than he was six years ago when he stopped Lassiter from murdering Krista Stillson.
"WHERE IS HE?!" demanded a panicking DeLuca.
Detective Harding, the man in charge of this crime scene, approaches him to calm him down.
"Easy, Andy. We're taking care of it." Harding assured him.
"Did he escape?" DeLuca sternly asked.
Harding sighs. He knows he can't hide this any further.
"We've checked on all of the patients. I'm sorry, Andy...he was the only patient not accounted for."
DeLuca is horrified by this news.
"Oh, Good God!" exclaimed DeLuca. Horrified to learn that Lassiter has escaped. "Who did this?"
Harding looks at his notes.
"A Mr. Gabriel Sterner. He's a night shift security guard here." answered Harding.
"Why would he do this?" asked DeLuca.
"We don't know yet. We're looking into it. We have an all points bulletin out for them both. We will find them. Trust us."
Static is heard from Harding's radio as an Officer is heard speaking from the radio.
"Detective Harding, we have found Sterner. We're at the Orchard Trail park ten blocks away from the hospital." informed an Officer.
"We're on our way." Harding says into the radio. "Come on."
Harding and DeLuca leave together.
Harding pulls into the Orchard Trail Park where there are several other police officers present. Both Harding and DeLuca get out of the car and approach Gabriel's car, where a police officer is waiting for them.
"Where are they?" asked Harding.
The Officer steps away from the driver's side to reveal - GABRIEL'S DEAD BODY. He took a bullet to the head. They look at the open back passenger door to find it empty. Lassiter is gone.
"Son of a bitch!" shouts a furious DeLuca, banging his fist at the car. "He's gone. He's on the loose."
"We will find him." Harding assures him.
"I will find him." declared DeLuca. "I will be the one to stop him…again."
