2: Unexpected Love
(Tam 1st person)
I think I'm in love. I mean, I barely know her, but I can tell that she's amazing. She's pretty, she's kind (based on what we've seen about her) but the thing is, she just lost her boyfriend. And plus, I probably don't have a chance with her. I mean, I'm way out of her league. So I should keep my feelings to myself. Like I always do. Well, Lilah got to sleep in the guest room. But when Della went to check on her on the morning of the 7th day (which had been full of filling her in on things she didn't know about, and comforting her about her parents) , she let out a surprised yelp. I ran toward the room, Dex, Keefe, and Fitz behind me. Then we saw what was wrong: she wasn't there. The bed was made, and the only indication that anyone had been there were the bunny slippers. Just then the bathroom door opened, and out came a black girl with puffy hair and a short towel wrapped around her body, outlining her curves. And damn, her legs were fine. I obviously looked away, but noticed the other boys' heads still up. She blinked in surprise. "Hi?" she said from the bathroom door. The boys were practically drooling. "Geez, are all the elven boys this perverted? Literally, scram!" she yelled, turning to face them. "Oh, your fine, Tam," she said as I started to run after the embarrassed boys. "You actually have some respect. Just give me a second," she said, walking into her closet. I heard a lot of snapping noises, and after a few minutes I heard a "You may look now." I looked up to see her in another one of those "Crop-tops." It wasn't as scandalous as the last one, but still. It was black, and she was also wearing black jeans. She had these poofy black circles to tie her hair into double buns. She wasn't wearing any shoes, just some comfy looking black socks. "Woah. A cute boy's checking me out. Unexpected," she said, and I blushed. I never knew I could do that, and apparently neither did Lilah, because she said "Double woah. Mr. Shade can blush. Today is full of woah's" she said. I pulled my bangs over my eyes. Lilah giggled. "It's OK, I'm not going to tell anyone that your face can turn pink. So, anyways, can I tell you a secret?" she asked, sitting in the bed.
"Sure," I said, coming down next to her.
"Well, it may not seem like it, but my favorite color is black," she said. I blinked. I thought it would be something interesting. I guess not. She giggled again. It was such a musical sound. I wish I could listen to that all day. "I'm kidding, Tammy boy. The real secret is that… um well… let me just write it, so I can run away quickly and avoid conversation. And then we can talk about it after a day or two," she said, snapping a notebook and pencil. She quickly jotted something down, tore the page, closed the notebook, snapped it with the pencil back to where it came from, and handed the page to me. She then sprinted out of the room so fast I could barely see her go. She must have used channeling. I looked down and read it.
OK, I know you're probably going to hate me after this, but I can't keep secrets. I don't know why, but only specific ones are kept. Ones that need to be kept. Not ones that keep coming back to me every time I see you. And you might think that I barely know you, but I know everything about you. I don't know why there were books, but there were, and I read everything. So I know that you like brunettes. I know that you'll do anything for your sister. I know that you probably like Biana. I know that even though you act like you hate Keefe, you still care for him deep inside. I know how kind and courageous you are, and how fair and nice and smart. And I know that you'll hate every bit of me after you read this. So here it goes
I like you
Three words. Three neatly written words on the page. Three words that changed everything. And I know that I need to have a talk with her, right now. "Awww! That's so cute!" Della appeared out of nowhere. I yelped. "Oh, sorry. I forgot I was invisible. Do you like her back?" she asked. I blushed like mad. "I'll take that as a yes! I'm planning your wedding!" She squealed. I sighed, wondering how this could be a fully grown woman. "I barely even know her! And I do like her, but if I make a move, won't it be a little too fast?" I asked.
"Hmm, kind of. Wait! I have an idea!" she leaned down and whispered in my ear, and I nodded. I would do just that. Della was really smart when it came to these things. I ran up the stairs to Sophie, and whispered the plan in her ears. She happily agreed. Great. Now we just need to get everyone else, and plan get-a-girlfriend will be successful.
