The Doctor renters the room to see that Ace had her head right next to her hand that is holding Graham's. "That is taken care of. No one should hear a song like that when they are already worried enough about their loved one."
"Shh Doctor, Ace is asleep." Warns Tegan.
The Doctor looks at Ace again to see her even breathing. "The only time I have seen her this distraught is when she told me about Manisha."
"Did you know her when it happened?"
"No, but she did tell me she tried to go after the boys who did, who were older than her. Martha, remember when we dealt with the Family of Blood?"
"How could I not, we were in a time not great for people of color."
"Well, the brother who I trapped in a scarecrow, I put in Perivale to protect young Ace from getting hurt by them."
"She has always meant a lot to you, hasn't she?"
"She has Kate just like your whole family, I met both your Grandfather and was close to your Father."
"I knew about my Father, but not my Grandfather."
"You come from a great family, though at first Ace here didn't like your dear old dad."
"He told me the story. I have known about most of you since I was a kid."
Ace starts to wake up, "what is going on?"
"We are just talking about old friends and family."
Graham's doctor enters the room. "Ms. McShane and Mr. O'Brien follow me please."
"Before you start I should probably tell you Graham is my Step-Grandad."
"Oh, ok, let me make a note of that, what is your name?"
"Ryan Sinclair."
"Got it, now we have some good news, there is nothing wrong with Mr. O'Brien's brain."
"Then why isn't he waking up?"
"Ms. McShane, sometimes after something like this happens the body needs rest."
"I know."
"That's good."
"Do you have any idea when he is going to wake up?"
"Sadly we do not, his body has to decide on when to wake up. It could be today, next week or even past that."
"Ok," Ace looks back into the room.
"Doc."
"Yes, Mr. Sinclair?"
"Is there anything we can do to make him more comfortable?"
"Talk to him."
"We can do that. Come on Ace."
"Thank you doctor," Ace tells the man before she and Ryan go back into the room. Yaz gets up so Ryan can sit on one side of the bed and Ace the other. "The Doctor, I mean medical doctor, told us to talk to him." Ace tells everyone as she keeps her eyes on Graham.
"Is there anything else?"
"There is no swelling in Graham's brain, sadly there is also no way to know when he will wake up."
"That is good news," Nyssa adds, trying to look for the good in everything. "Hello Graham, it's Nyssa, one of your friends."
"Thank you Nyssa, he should still know who you are," Ace tries to smile at her, but her lips barely lift.
"You should wake up soon Graham, there are many people worried about you, and worried about the two people at your immediate bedside. One of which is holding your hand, and doesn't like to leave the room." Nyssa tells his prone form.
Tegan knowing what her wife wants to say but won't, "it isn't even your Grandson, it's your friend that you have been spending a lot of time with."
"Now is not the time for teasing me, Tegan," Ace looks up again, making eye contact with Tegan.
"We have all been thinking it Ace."
"Can we not talk about that right now, what matters is Graham, who most of you seem to forget is my Grandad."
"Sorry Ryan," Tegan says.
"You know Tegan, we should leave, we have things to do." Everyone but Ace, Ryan and Yaz filter out of the room with the Doctor going back to their TARDIS.
"I am sorry for them Ryan, Tegan has never seen me form a connection with anyone like this."
"I only said that to get them out, I had a feeling that Tegan was going to keep teasing you." Ace smiles at him.
"You have a good Grandson here Graham.''
"Grandad, you have made some wonderful friends since I was last here. I am sorry that I am not around much, especially since I left the TARDIS to be around my friends more, and you left to be with me."
"Graham, Yaz here, we have a crazy fam don't we, that has been growing since October."
"I don't know if you want your other buddies here, Grandad, but I may have left the area a little bit, but not as far as Sheifeild."
"I don't think they will understand some of the visitors he would get and the blue box that hasn't left the corner. I am surprised we haven't had any questions about it honestly."
"The Doctor once said something to me that us humans are remarkable for not noticing things." Ace looks back at Graham, "my Doctor or as I called him, Professor, told me that when we first met the Daleks. It was the first time my Nitro hurt someone. The timer wasn't right." She runs the hand not holding Graham's along his cheek. She is glad to feel heat on his cheek. Yaz nudges Ryan and gestures towards the TARDIS. He gets up and Ace notices them both leaving.
"Looks like it's just you and I again Graham. I was telling the truth that Ryan is a good young man. Though from what you have told me about Grace it is not surprising at all." She thinks she sees his eyes move a little bit, "Graham?!" She looks at the machines connected to him wishing she could understand them, "are you waking up," she leans closer to him and presses her lips to his forehead and realizes it wasn't. "I won't leave until you wake up, then I will help you recuperate."
Meanwhile Ace did see his eyes move, but Graham is dreaming.
'Graham O'Brien, what are you doing here?'
'Grace?'
'Yes, it's me, now tell me what is going on?'
'I was fighting Daleks with Ace and the next thing I know I am here talking to you.'
'Who is this Ace?'
'A good friend of the Doctors, we met a few months ago in a Volcano.'
'Have you found happiness since I died?'
'I am liking talking to Ace, but I feel like I am betraying you.'
'Graham, the only way that could happen is if you don't try and find some happiness. I would never want you to mourn me for the rest of your life.'
'I'll try.'
'Do more than try, I have seen you with this burnett , that I think is Ace and I see the way you are with her.'
'She is fun to be around.'
'You should know that I have been keeping an eye on what is going on down there, this Ace has barely left your side.'
'I am not ready to wake up yet.'
'Then don't just so you know when you do wake up, that woman down there is going to make sure you get better and safe.'
'That means she will probably try to keep me away from Nitro-999.'
'What is that?'
'Its her invention that packs a wallop.'
'Its an explosive?'
'It is.'
'I can see why, but don't let her do that, and let her know how you feel.'
'What feelings?'
'That you Graham O'Brien are falling for her.'
'What?'
'I can see it in your eyes. I am happy for you.'
'I.'
'Graham it's more than ok that you like her. Now I have got to go, let love grow.'
'I'll try.' With that Graham's dream changes and he stops dreaming of Grace.
