Following my big sister without her knowing, Cynthia, I did my best to keep up with her. I was five, and she was 25. She was the Pokémon Champion, and I always wanted to challenge her, but I didn't have a pokemon. We lived in Twinleaf Town, well, I did, she spent most of her time wondering around the Shino region. Twinleaf Town is a small and quaint town. Our house is in the southeast corner of the town. The town has a small lake situated at the very bottom, and it is also the nearest town to Lake Verity, which is where I was following my sister to, so she could talk with the Professor. It lacks a Pokémon Center and a Pokémon Lab. It has two small gardens near the entry. Trees surround Twinleaf Town in a Fence-Type Manner, protecting us from any wild pokemon who may attempt to come in to cause some trouble.
Located near Twinleaf Town, the lake is home to the Legendary Pokémon Mesprit, one of the three Lake Guardians and the being of Emotion. This was Lake Verity. When we arrived at Lake Verity, I watched as my sister walked over to an older man and started talking to him. This was Professor Rowan.
Suddenly, something pulled at my bag from behind. Turning to look behind me, I saw a Ralts reaching into my bag. Sitting down, I reached into my bag and pulled out an Oran Berry for it. Passing it over, Ralts sat down as well and started eating it. This was my first Wild Pokémon encounter, and it was a Ralts. Pulling out another berry, I started eating along with Ralts, enjoying my time with it.
As the two of us were eating, Ralts suddenly stiffened up before teleporting away. I was then covered in shadows. Looking up, I saw an army of Starly surrounding me. Before I could scream, I was attacked by them. Having no other choice, I got down in the fetal position as they attacked. "Garchomp, use Flamethrower!" I heard, where fire spewed over us. Getting picked up, I was placed on the shoulder of my sister, who had been the one to pick me up. "What are you doing here, its dangerous without a pokemon?!" She yelled, clearly angry at me, but worried at the same time. "Let's go, you're going home!" She said as she started walking away.
Looking back, I saw the Ralts was eating the berry's that had fallen out of my bag due to the attack, followed by a strange cry of sorts.
8 Years Later
Upon arriving home from school, I saw my mom standing at the door. "Professor Roman, the one at Sandgem Town, wants to meet with you." She said, confusing me on why he wanted to meet with me. It had been years since I had even thought of the man, the last time being when I followed my sister.
"Did he give you a reason?" I asked, but she shook her head. She then turned around and walked back into the kitchen, where I tilted my head at her actions. Nodding my head, I turned and left the house. Making my way towards Route 201, I knew it was going to be a bit of a walk, and seeing as no one wanted to walk with me, I chose to walk by myself.
Once I reached the main road to Route 201, I saw my sister, Cynthia, waiting for me. She had her arms crossed, looking dead at me. Smiling, I ran over to her. Once I reached her, I went for a hug, but she grabbed me by the head and stopped me. "Come on, I am walking with you over to Professor Rowen's Lab." Cynthia said as she turned around and walked off, with me following behind her. I rarely ever got to see her, but she and everyone had grown cold to me.
It started after I was attacked, just out of the blue everyone stared at me with a blank, emotionless expression. First it was everyone around us, then mom, and finally my sister, Cynthia. I was, and am, too scared to ask why they look at me the way that they do. I feared the answer that I would be given to the point that I might lose my mind to it. I put it in the back of my mind, so that I could smile, even if they couldn't.
Later
Sandgem Town has two houses, and the Pokémon Lab, which is run by Professor Rowan, a Pokémon Center and a Poké Mart. Once we reached the Lab, I followed my sister inside. As we entered the lab, I bumped into my sister as she had come to a stop. She grabbed me by the arm and moved me in front of her, holding both hands on my shoulders as she pushed me forward. Once we reached the middle of the room, Professor Rowan got in my face, examining me. He scared me, but I couldn't run due to my sister holding me. "You are being tasked with a special task, completing a PokeDEX." He said, where I nodded my head as I didn't know what it was. "You are to travel all over the region, collect as much data on each Pokémon that you encounter." He informed, before walking over to a desk. "Of course, you will need a pokemon." He said as he picked up a pokeball. "Normally, I would give you one of three special pokemon, but this one was chosen for you by your sister." He informed, where I looked up at her, getting a nod in return.
"You are my brother, so I chose a strong one for you, to protect yourself." She informed, where I then looked back at the Professor and held my hand out, where he had given me the Pokeball. Stepping away, I let the pokemon out, with it being a Gible. "Go ahead and use the PokeDEX." Cynthia said, where the Professor held out a small red device to me.
Aiming it at Gible, it turned on. "Gible, the Land Shark Pokémon. It nests in small, horizontal holes in cave walls. It pounces to catch prey that stray too close. It once lived in the tropics. To avoid the cold, it lives in caves warmed by geothermal heat. It attacks using its huge mouth. While its attacks are powerful, it hurts itself out of clumsiness, too." The PokeDEX informed, where Gible let out a yawn as it walked around the room.
"You know how to cook; I know this from mom." Cynthia said, where I turned to her. She passed me a wallet, with me taking it from here. "You are to use that to buy any food or Pokeballs you will need for your journey. Nothing more, nothing less." She said, with me nodding and putting Gible back into the pokeball. "Be sure to let your pokemon out every once in a while, for food and water." She informed, with me nodding as I left to get supplies for my trip with my sister.
Later
Returning to the Lab, I saw that my sister wasnt waiting for me. 'She must still be inside!' I thought, opening the door and seeing that only the Professor was here. Walking in, I looked around until the Professor noticed me. "Is there something I can help you with?" He asked, with me nodding.
"My sister, have you seen her? I thought she was supposed to travel with me, but I didn't see her outside the lab." I said, with him nodding.
"Yes, she left." He said, shocking me. "This is your journey, not hers. She has already gone on her own. Now, you must do the same as she has before." He informed as he walked me towards the door. "Your journey, starts now." He said, pushing me out the door and closing it behind me.
Later, Route 202
It was going to be a few days walk to the next city, but that wasnt my goal. My goal, find as many pokemon as I could and catch any pokemon that I would want, or that could be helpful. The day was long, and when I stopped for a break, I set up camp as it was getting late. Letting Gible out, said Pokémon just laid on its side, looking at me. Setting some pokemon food down for it, Gible stood up, walked over and picked up the bowl. Once it opened its mouth wide, it ate the pokemon food in one go. He eventually bit the bowl, shook it around and tossed it at a tree. It then dug into and buried itself into the ground, where only the fin was visible.
Looking at the tree, I saw a pokemon walk out from the tree line and sniff the bowl. Pulling my pokeDEX out, I aimed it at the pokemon. "Shinx, the Flash Pokémon. All of its fur dazzles if danger is sensed. It flees while the foe is momentarily blinded. Its forelegs have a muscle-based system of generating electricity." It informed, with said pokemon looking at me.
Getting up, I walked over to the bowl. Shinx ran at that point, where I picked up the bowl and brought it back over to camp. Filling the bowl up once more, I placed it next to me. I looked back at the tree, seeing that Shinx was still watching. Looking away, I watched as Gible popped its head up with a large smile on its face. Hearing munching next to me, I looked down at Shinx as the pokemon was eating, keeping an eye on me.
Reaching down, I placed a hand on its head, petting it. Shinx froze for a bit as soon as I did, but after a bit, continued to eat. "You should go find your family, being alone is boring, and lonely." I said as I laid down, placing my hands behind my head. "I wish everyone wouldn't treat me differently." I said as I closed my eyes and went to sleep.
The next day
Feeling a weight on my chest, I opened my eyes and found Gible laying on me. Grabbing said pokemon, I moved them off so that I could stand up. I then took notice that my bag had been searched, making me sigh as I started going through everything. Seeing that I wasnt missing anything, I put Gible back into his pokeball and continued on.
As I walked, I stopped once I saw a pokemon battle between three trainers. Pulling out my PokeDEX, I aimed it at the pokemon. "Turtwig, the tiny leaf pokemon. Made from soil, the shell on its back hardens when it drinks water. It lives along lakes. It undertakes photosynthesis with its body, making oxygen. The leaf on its head wilts if it is thirsty. On a very healthy Turtwig, the shell should feel moist." It informed on the first pokemon, before I moved onto the next pokemon. "Chimchar, the Chimp Pokémon. It agilely scales sheer cliffs to live atop craggy mountains. Its fire is put out when it sleeps. Its fiery rear end is fueled by gas made in its belly. Even rain can't extinguish the fire." It informed, where I moved over to the next pokemon. "Piplup, the Penguin pokemon. Because it is very proud, it hates accepting food from people. It lives along shores in northern countries. A skilled swimmer, it dives for over 10 minutes to hunt. A poor walker, it often falls down. However, its strong pride makes it puff up its chest without a care." It informed, with me nodding my head at that before putting it away.
"Who's there!" One of the three trainers called out, this one having a green and brown suit, green hair and brown eyes, with me looking at them as they looked at me. "Who are you, and why are you spying on us?!" He questioned, where I pointed at myself. "Yes you, now talk!" He said, where I nodded.
"Kota, I'm tasked by Professor Roman to find all of the pokemon in the region for him." I Said as I showed him my pokeDEX. "I didn't mean to spy; I was on my way to the next city when I saw you three battling." I said, where one of them got annoyed.
"Whatever, Chimchar, use ember!" Another ordered, this one having red and brown hair, wearing a red and white suit, shocking me as he ordered said pokemon to attack me.
"Gible, sand tomb!" I called out as I summoned said pokemon. Once Gible appeared, it created a sand tomb around us, protecting us from the attack. "Are you crazy, you can't go attacking people!" I called out, where I saw water bubbles coming towards us. Gible was hit, knocking it back.
"Alright, Turtwig, tackle!" The green haired boy ordered, where Gible was smacked down before it could get up.
"Piplup, pound it into the ground!" The last one said, having Blue and Black hair, and a Blue and White suit, where both pokemon continued to attack Gible, out numbering it.
"You need to stop, you don't know anything about being a trainer, you can't go attacking a pokemon while its down, let alone while attacking it with more than one pokemon!" I called out as I went to call back Gible, but my hand was scratched, making me drop my pokeball. Chimchar grabbed said pokeball and ran over to its trainer.
"I can do whatever I want with MY pokemon!" He said, declaring Gible his pokemon. "You on the other hand, HAVE no pokemon! Now get lost, or we will make sure you get lost!" He ordered, where I looked towards Gible as it was attacked without mercy.
Suddenly, a pokemon can flying out of my bag, this one being Shinx. Shinx sparked with electricity before smacking into Piplup, making room for Gible to get away. "SHIN!" Said pokemon growled out, gritting its teeth at the three pokemon that stood before it and the injured Gible.
"Where did you come from!?" I said in shock as I had looked in my bag and didn't find any sign of it, nor could it think on where it could of hid seeing as it was bigger than my bag, and I would have felt a weight difference.
"A Shinx? So, he had more pokemon." One of them said as he bit his thumbnail. "No matter, Tertwig, focus your attacks on Shinx!" He ordered as he pointed at said pokemon.
'They are going to gang up on Shinx now, I have to help out! I thought as I narrowed my eyes at them. "Gible, focus on protecting Shinx! Shinx, use Spark on Piplup!" I ordered, where Gible got in front of Shinx and caught Tertwig before it could hit, getting pushed back in the power struggle.
Shinx sparked once more before charging around both pokemon and smacking into Piplup as it started shooting bubbles at it, missing. The attack forced Piplup to turn its attack to Chimchar, taking it out.
"Gible, return!" The trainer called out as he held out the pokeball to my pokemon, making it return to its pokeball. "See that, he belongs to me!" He said, where said pokeball struggled in his hands. "H-hey, what gives!?" He said as he held it with both hands but was forced to let go as Gible popped out of the pokeball.
"GIB!" Gible yelled as it flew towards Tertwig as it charged at Shinx and bit down on its head. Gible lifted Tertwig up and spun around before tossing it at its trainer.
"Alright!" I said, where Shinx jumped at the trainer who had Gibles pokeball and took it from him before rushing over to me. "Thanks, Shinx!" I said as I knelt down and pet Shinx on the head, getting a smile from said pokemon.
"This won't be the last time we meet!" One said as he called back Chimchar.
"Filthy pokemon!" Another said as he recalled Piplup.
"Come on, let's leave this loser!" The last one said as he called back Tertwig before running off.
"You will know not to mess with the Sophi family!" He said, where all three of them took off.
Seeing Gible limping back over to me, I sat down and caught it once it started falling towards me. Pulling it onto my lap, I frowned at all of the wounds that they had inflicted on it. "They were jerks for what they did!" I said, a bit angry at their actions. Looking at Shinx, I watched as it pulled out a pokeball from my bag. "Thank you, Shinx." I said, smiling at the pokemon as it poked its paw at one of the pokeballs and was absorbed into it, shocking me as I had caught Shinx already. Well, more like Shinx had joined me for my journey. Smiling, I held Gibles pokeball out to him, allowing him to rest in the pokeball. Standing up, I took out the pokeball belt and placed it on my side. "Ok, let's get moving!" I said as I rushed towards the next town, not wanting to stay here any longer just in case we were forced to fight once more.
