Author's Notes: I know the me from early 2000s would have loved a cross-over fic like this from my two fave animes of all time 3 This is for you, girlie For Cardcaptor Sakura, this is set before Touya gives his powers to Yukito. Yukito doesn't know about Yue yet, but he accepts the mysterious way Usagi talks about the moon since he subconsciously understands.
This story is also on archiveofourown under 'luckystars1015' with a cute title card 3
Usagi put a hand on her stomach, beckoning it to stop growling. Her luck was just the worst today. She was just so excited for her date with Mamoru that she had forgotten her wallet. She had even regrettably chosen to not wear her communicator watch since it hadn't matched the cute outfit she chose.
On top of that, she used her last 300 yen coin to place a call for Mamo-chan, but then she could only leave a voicemail since he hadn't picked up. The teenage girl was in an area unknown to her with no money to get back home. She decided to rest in a park nearby before deciding what to do.
As she trudged through the path, a sad pout on her face, her foot got caught on a rock and she fell flat on her face.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Tears burst forth and she cried with her whole being. Who cared if Rei would make fun of her for this public outburst if she heard?
"Are you okay, little miss?" A kind voice asked.
Usagi looked up at the stranger. He had soft, gray hair and carried such a kind aura that it immediately assuaged the girl's tears. His smile reminded her of the gentle breeze on a sunny spring day.
He was holding out a handkerchief for her to dry her tears. The girl sniffled and took the offering with much gratitude.
She took the hand he offered and stood up. "T-thank you," she managed to say, now feeling rather embarrassed that this stranger stumbled upon her in what was not her best moment.
"It's quite alright. Are you hurt at all?"
Usagi looked down and swatted the dirt off her knees but didn't see any sign of injuries. "No, I don't—" She was interrupted by the loud growl of her stomach.
The older boy laughed in amusement. "There's a crepe truck near here. Would you like to try?"
Usagi quickly nodded her head, her eyes alight. It then dawned on her that she forgot her wallet. "I'd love to, but I forgot my wallet today." She replied disappointedly.
"It's alright. It'll be on me."
Serenity smiled widely, basically skipping as they made their way to the dessert truck. She was never one to reject the kindness of strangers.
"Thank you so much! My name is Tsukino Usagi."
The older teen softly gasped in surprise. "Like 'moon rabbit'?" He laughed gently, his shoulders shaking a bit. Serenity tilted her head in confusion, wondering if she missed a joke.
"Sorry," he replied. "My name is Tsukishiro Yukito, and my name also has 'moon' and 'rabbit' in its writing."
Usagi's smile stretched across her face. What a serendipitous meeting! The two talked about themselves a bit as they walked. Yukito learned he was her senpai by two years and that the fourteen year old went to school in the Juuban district.
Once Yukito grabbed them both extra large strawberry creme crepes, they settled at a bench nearby.
Usagi happily munched away, spirits lifted exponentially and started chatting away. She explained that she was in the area to meet up with her boyfriend for a date at a new dessert shop that opened up.
"Eh? If you're planning to go to a dessert shop, is it alright for you to eat something sweet now?" Yukito asked.
Usagi chuckled a bit in embarrassment. "I'm the type to have a large appetite. Some people eat to live, I live to eat!"
Yukito smiled widely at that, happy to meet another lover of food. "I understand. I'm known for my large appetite as well."
Suddenly, something caught Usagi's eye and she looked up in the sky. "Oh! What a lucky day! We can see the moon in the sky today." The hazy mirage of the moon sat proudly in the blue sky. "It's a full moon today, too. I always feel much more energized on a full moon."
Yukito tilted his head to look at the soft roundness of the celestial orb. He looked back down at the girl admiring the moon. "I never thought about it like that, but I guess I feel the pull of the moon as well." Sometimes he would catch himself staring at it during the night, bathing in its light.
What a kindred spirit this girl was. She felt this inexplicable draw towards the moon as well.
Yukito looked back at this daylit moon. "Isn't it a bit sad though? That the moon needs light from others to shine…"
Usagi turned to look at the boy and she could see the quiet look of loneliness hidden beneath those brown eyes. It was a familiar sight. She had felt it at times, too.
"Maybe… I think it depends on how you look at it." She hummed. "Maybe the moon does need the light of the sun and stars around it, but it does not make it any less lovely nor beautiful. Do we, ourselves, not shine best when we receive support from our loved ones? And in turn, we share love back."
"The ocean needs the moon so that its tides may dance. The flowers and animals need its soft moonlight to guide it through the dark night. It transforms the light of support it receives into protection and its own special brand of love."
Yukito was rarely rendered speechless, but he was so after this girl's poetic defense of the moon.
"Thank you for that," Yukito's smile was lighter now.
They had both finished their desserts at this point. "Alright! I'm re-energized and ready to find my way again." Usagi shot up with stars in her eyes. "Time to find my Mamo-chan!"
Yukito stood up as well, reaching for his wallet. "Are you sure you'll be alright? I can give you some money for bus fare."
Usagi shook her head fervently. "You've helped me so much already! I'll be alright now!"
Yukito smiled, thinking of how this girl reminded him so much of Sakura-chan.
"I'd love to pay you back as well." In the blink of an eye, her aura shifted with much mysteriousness. Although he saw something powerful, almost ancient in her eyes, the strongest feeling was still love. She held out her hands, palms facing upwards toward the sky, and Yukito knew instinctively to place his hands on top of hers.
They both closed their eyes as his cool hands gently touched her smaller, warm ones. Out of nowhere, a strong gaze blew through the trees, making the forest dance and sing a wild song, as it spun around them. Yukito felt a wave of powerful, warm energy flooding over and into him.
When it passed, Yukito opened his eyes, feeling more energized and livelier than he had felt in months.
"Thank you…" He said with as much gratitude as he could express.
"You're welcome," Usagi replied. A slight frown marred her face. "I wish I knew how to give you more." She squeezed his hands in reassurance. "But this should last you a while."
Usagi imperceptibly gazed right besides Yukito, but Yue knew she was looking right at him. "Thank you for your kindness. I hope you find what you're looking for."
Before Yukito could ask what she meant, a voice rang through the park. "Usako!"
Usagi turned around and jumped for joy. "It's my Mamo-chan!" She bounded towards him and the two lovers embraced.
The two made their way towards Yukito, Usagi hanging off Mamoru's arm. "This is my prince," Usagi proudly introduced.
Yukito laughed at the blush that painted the embarrassed man's face. "The name's Chiba Mamoru." He then bowed. "Thank you for taking care of my Usako."
Yukito laughed gently, amused by the doting couple. "It's no problem at all. My name is Tsukishiro Yukito. Usagi helped me a lot as well."
Mamoru gazed at Yukito, and the latter knew he was reading his aura. The black-haired man smiled gently, seeing the familiar tendrils of cosmic energy surrounding the boy. "Yes, I can see that." His eyes shifted towards the space where Yue floated and smiled softly, again acknowledging the invisible angel.
To say that Yue was perturbed to meet such a powerful, insightful couple was an understatement.
Suddenly, the three could hear someone calling Yukito's name. "Yuki!"
Usagi smiled when her eyes landed on the dark-haired man. She laughed inwardly, noting that the two rabbits of the moon had similar tastes. "Looks like your prince is coming as well," she had said, but there was doubt if Yukito could hear her, so focused on Touya's approaching figure.
Touya was running up to them. He had been on his way to meet up with Yukito when he'd sensed a powerful vortex of energy. When he'd arrived, he saw Yukito holding hands with a strange girl. But what was stranger was the bright, massive wings sprouting from behind her. Yue's wings were spread out, too, and for a second, it was almost as if two angels dancing with one another.
A pillar of powerful, cosmic energy shot up into the sky, and it's a wonder how other people could not see what Touya could. Speechless, he could only watch as she painted Yukito in her light.
Touya only began to move when he saw another man approach them. As he'd finally arrived, he was stunned to finally get a good look at the girl Yukito was with. Her beautiful, white wings were slowly fading now. But the wings, along with her kind eyes and playful smile, reminded Touya of his mother.
Their introductions were cut short as the dark-haired men looked at their watches. "The special at the cafe is almost ending, Usako. We'd have to leave now to make it."
"Our shift at the concession stand is starting, Yuki." They all made their goodbyes and headed in opposite directions.
Out of nowhere, Yukito tripped but immediately Touya wrapped his arm around the shorter man's waist to steady him. "Yuki, are you alright?" The black-haired teen kept his hand there.
A soft, almost imperceptible blush dusted Yukito's snowy skin. "Yes, Touya. I feel better than I've felt in awhile."
Touya opened his mouth, wanting to say what he had been wanting to say for forever, but closed it. Yukito was alright for now. He could save it for another day.
Touya looked up as something caught his eye. "It's a full moon today."
Yukito smiled, watching Touya under his lashes. "It's quite beautiful, isn't it."
Author's notes: The ending is based on one of my favorite Japanese references. 'The moon is beautiful tonight' has been used as an indirect confession of love.
I've been rewatching Cardcaptor Sakura and falling in love with the characters all over again. What surprises me most is that I remember not understanding the love between Touya and Yukito when I was younger, since I didn't have much LGBTQ+ influence back then. Any representation was always danced around or just completely cut in dub (like Sailor Uranus and Neptune being cousins).
But it's nice to know how much has changed now. Yukito's wikia bio identifies him as Touya's boyfriend and it just made me so happy to see that.
