Jaiden the Hedgehog | #1 - The Resistance's shining hope
The first issue of Jaiden's adventures with the Resistance in 'Sega-topia'
The following events take place after Jaiden the Hedgehog - Origins.
Jaiden is standing at the gate of the civilization, gazing down at what the heck went by him, that blue blur of speed. He looked down and saw that blue hedgehog speaking with a civilian. He couldn't get much out of the conversation, but he did hear that name again, Eggman.
'There's that name again, a fool named Eggman,' the light-grey hedgehog thought. He had a lot of questions and not enough answers he could get. Jaiden wants to know who this blue hedgehog and this "Eggman" person is. Looking down the gate, he saw the blue hedgehog run in another direction out of the civilization. Looking around, Jaiden walks through the gate. He walks down this civilization, seeing houses, plants, and people everywhere. Some people seemed to be in their homes on lockdown, probably from this Eggman guy, Jaiden presumes. Seeing the people that were out socializing and interacting with one another peacefully almost gave Jaiden a breath of life. Some people had smiles, and their children, laughing and playing with one another. Seeing this instantly made the light-grey hedgehog think about Xevir and the life that had once filled it. It made his heart ache a little but also hurt a little less afterward bit. He walks down two more blocks until a robot comes out of the air. It landed before Jaiden, startling him and making him jump backward.
"Woah!" Jaiden shouted, "A- a robot?"
The robot, metallic and silver with an emblem of that same mustache guy on the chest, looked at Jaiden with a red laser-eye stare. Those cold red robotic eyes are enough to give anyone the chills looking at this thing. It then gave Jaiden a grid scan, making the hedgehog look at himself in confusion and nervousness. After some minutes, the robot finishes scanning Jaide and holds up his arm at him.
"UNIDENTIFIED LIFEFORM DETECTED. ENERGY LEVELS: OBSCENE. THREAT TO EGGMAN: VERY HIGH. MUST TERMINATE," the robot robotically said, turning its raised arm into a cannon. Jaiden's ears perk up, noticing this, and before the robot takes a shot, the hedgehog jumps in the air, avoiding the blast.
Jaiden in the air now is looking at the robot from above, seeing that this heap of metal is hostile, obviously. He knew he needed to take it out to save himself and these people. Coming from the air, he holds a fist in his right hand, hoping for a strong pound punch. While he was declining, his right hand started to glow blue, coming from his chaos emerald. He let out a battle cry. Once he hit the ground, his fist met the robot, causing a vast blue energy shockwave, letting out a massive pulse across the area, disintegrating, and eradicating the robot. The robot's destruction released an enormous smoke cloud, and some citizens came from their housing. The smoke clouds were clearing up, and the citizens saw the shape of a hedgehog sitting in a landing stance.
"Alright! Thanks Son-" some citizens cheered, cutting themselves off when the smoke cleared, showing a completely different hedgehog from what they thought. At this sight, some citizens started whispering to each other, Who was this guy? How did he do that? Is he trustworthy? After keeping to themselves for a bit, and an awkward silence fills the atmosphere, a citizen finally speaks up. "Thanks, stranger! Who, who are you?" Jaiden turns to look at the citizen who asked that, a bear with a shirt on. The hedgehog smiles to ease the atmosphere and shows that these citizens can trust him, and he replies to the bear's question.
"What's up homie," Jaiden starts, "My name is Jaiden, Jaiden the Hedgehog. Don't worry, I'm someone to be trusted."
"Okay good, we didn't need the city to be breached by another evil work of Eggman," the bear citizen replies
"What's your name?"
"Fuzzy."
"Okay, Fuzzy, can you tell me what this place is and who this Eggman person is?"
Fuzzy calmly looks at our hedgehog; the bear knows this is an ally he is talking to. He doesn't even know who Eggman even is. "Well, calling him a person is one thing."
"Well… is he… an egg?"
"What? No! I meant like he is too cruel and horrible to be a person!"
"Oh," Jaiden smacks his hand above his nose, "I'm so slow! My fault there."
"It's okay. You know, it's actually quite reassuring that another mobian doesn't know the evil that is Eggman."
"M- Mobian?" Jaiden gives the bear a confused look. "What's… a mobian?"
The people around Fuzzy, including himself, jump back from a realization, "You… aren't from around here?"
Before Jaiden could give a reply, that blue blur that he had seen earlier comes speeding back to the civilization, he stops in front of Fuzzy.
"Woah! What happened here? I heard the explosions," the blue hedgehog says to the bear worriedly. "I bought some backup with me just in case."
Behind the blue hedgehog came an orange two-tailed fox and a pink hedgehog with pink quills and a big hammer… for some reason? Jaiden was still standing in the same spot; the three still hadn't noticed him.
The orange fox stepped up to Fuzzy, holding what looked to be a GPS in his hand, "According to this radar, we picked up some badnik activity in this area. As soon as we noticed it we came as fast as we could to check it out, but someone beat us to it." As he says this, the three finally turn to face Jaiden.
The blue hedgehog is the first to say something, "Woah! Who's this guy? Is he threatening you guys?" As he says this, the trio goes into a fighting stance. "Don't worry; we can take care of him!" Jaiden balds his fists and is ready to throw down, but Fuzzy intervenes.
"Woah," the bear said, using his hand to block the trio, "This is the one who saved us, Sonic. He's trustworthy." Sonic and the other two animals look up at Jaiden, who looks at Fuzzy, then at them.
"Hey, thanks for the assist, dude!" Sonic says, winking and holding a thumbs up at Jaiden. The light-grey hedgehog gives the blue hedgehog a neutral look. "Sorry for accusing you like that. With the whole… everything that's happened, it's hard to trust anyone." The hedgehog walks up to Jaiden with his hands behind his head. "My name is Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog," The hedgehog's friends walk up with smiles toward Jaiden; the light-grey hedgehog still stands there, emotionless. The fox follows up, "This is my best friend, Tails. He's a genius when it comes to tech. Couldn't ask for a better partner." The 2-tailed fox, now known as Tails, steps toward Jaiden.
"Nice to meet you, friend!" The fox offers his hand. The greyed hedgehog shakes it. "So, were you really able to take down that badnik by yourself?" The hedgehog nods at the curious fox, "Fasinating…." The pink hedgehog steps up, and Sonic introduces her.
"This is my other best friend, Amy. She's about as sweet as they come, a true friend to anyone." The pink hedgehog looks back at Sonic with googly eyes.
"Awwww… that was a sweet description, Sonic!" she says to him. He blushes slightly and replies.
"Heh. Don't mention it; probably won't happen again." They smile at each other, then Amy turns back to Jaiden, still standing there with no emotion.
"You know, it's rude not to introduce yourself after we all did to you, stranger! What's your name?" the pink hedgehog says to Jaiden. He stands for a bit, looking around at this trio, and he finally gives a reply.
"Jaiden. It's nice to meet y'all," he says semi-quietly. He points at Sonic, "Your that blue blur I saw earlier when I came here. From what I seen, your pretty fast homie."
Sonic looks at Jaiden with a cocky smirk, "Well, they don't call me the fastest thing alive for nothing!"
After Sonic says this, Amy notices the necklace Jaiden is wearing, "Wow! That's such a pretty necklace you have on there, Jaiden! Where'd you get it?"
"Erm…." Jaiden couldn't get the words out before Tails said something instead.
"Wow!" The fox says with some kind of device in his hand, "Sonic, Amy, come check this out. The chaos energy levels on this guy are insane!" The two hedgehogs ran over to Tails. They walked over to a private area to look at the chaos readings, and what they saw made their pupils shrink in shock. The two-tailed fox then spoke, "That's not a natural level, even when you go 'Super Sonic.' Sonic, this goes above it, by a number of multiples."
"So, this guy, is unlike anything we've ever seen?" asked Amy, looking very worryingly.
"Yes," Tails said, then turning to Sonic. "We can't leave this guy out and about, Sonic. If Eggman finds him, it will be trouble for us, big time."
"Your right," says Sonic to the young fox, "But, will it be safe for us to keep him around? This is just a random guy were talking about."
"Sonic, if he was able to take down a badnik without a scratch on him and have chaos reading such as this, then he is far from a random guy. He might be just what we need to take down Eggman and Starline once and for all, and end this nightmare."
"Your right, your right. Okay, let's grab him and head back to the Resistance base."
The trio comes from their privacy and over to the light-grey hedgehog, who was talking to Fuzzy the whole time. Amy walks up to him and taps his shoulder to get his attention. Jaiden turns his head over his shoulder, giving Amy and the gang his attention.
"Hey, Jaiden, was it? We were wondering if you'd like to come with us to the Resistance HQ. We would hate to leave you out here by yourself!" says the young pink hedgehog. Jaiden fully faces the three.
"Resistance?" Jaiden turns to Fuzzy, "Is this what you were talking about dawg?"
"Yes," replies the bear. "Sonic and his friends put together a team to protect us and put an end to Eggman's forces." Jaiden breathes for a second. He turns to the trio and smiles at them.
"I admire your work, y'all. Its very noble what you guys are doing," he complimented. The trio smiled at these words.
"Well, we try!" the blue hedgehog says, winking with a smile, while the rest closes their eyes and smile with glee.
"But, I can't go with you guys," the greyed hedgehog adds. The trio's faces were replaced with shocked gasps. "Your worlds problems are not my own." He turns around, "Bye guys, see you later Fuzzy." He starts to walk away. Moments after, Tails hollers to Jaiden.
"Wait!" he shouts, "We, could really use your help!" Jaiden slightly turns his head over his shoulder.
"My help?" he says faintly. He stops in his tracks and turns around.
"Jaiden, you have extremely high chaos ratings, it's… unlike anything I've ever seen! I'm sure Fuzzy told you why this place is a massive wasteland. Its terrible, but with your power, we can stop him and rebuild faster!"
"Tails, right? Fuzzy told me what happened. I'm sorry to hear that this Eggman person basically destroyed your world, but nothing is in it for me to help you guys. What I've seen, is nothing compared to this. Consider yourselves lucky." He continues to walk away but was stopped at the sound of a female voice.
"Hey!" Amy shouts defiantly, "I know we just met, but we are the good guys here! We're only asking you for your help to rebuild what that Eggman destroyed! It's the least you can do since your here!" Jaiden turns with a slight frown on his face, he walks back over to Amy and the trio. He gets in Amy's face and gives her a death stare, with her returning it back. Seconds into the stare, Jaiden blinks a couple of times. For a couple of moments, he could see Shira, the purple-quilled hedgehog he misses as, Amy…? That defiance in her voice, that eagerness, reminds him a lot of her. Jaiden shakes off this feeling, and Shira returns to being Amy. He backs up out of her face.
"Fine," Jaiden says quietly. "Just know you might regret this."
"We don't plan to," Amy replies. The hedgehog agrees to follow the trio out of the civilization; Fuzzy and more citizens wave at them, still thanking Jaiden for his help. When they get around the corner of the gate, Jaiden sees a red-looking plane with propellors at the front, two seats, and a giant 'Sonic' graffiti at the back.
"This, this is your ride?" Jaiden asks. He stops to look as the trio hops in. Tails getting in the driver's seat, Amy in the passenger seat, and Sonic, on top of the wings?
"Yep! It's called The Tornado, made it myself!" Tails replies as he starts The Tornado. Jaiden hears the engine start, and the propellors start to accelerate.
"Well, Tails, this is cool and all little homie, but where am I supposed to ride?" Jaiden asks. Tails look around at The Tornado.
"Looks like you'll have to ride with Sonic," the young fox observes.
"At the front? With no seatbelt? No, seats?"
"C'mon, it's not that bad once you get used to it," the blue hedgehog says, standing up on the wings. "Here, let me help you up here!" Sonic offers Jaiden his hand, his white glove. Jaiden walks up to it and grabs it, allowing Sonic to help him up on the wing. Jaiden almost loses balance, but he then gains it and stands up. He looks over at Sonic, the hedgehog looking off into the setting sun with his arms crossed.
"This is what you do all the time?" Jaiden asks the blue blur.
"Yep. You might think it's scary at first, trust me, for me it was, but when you've done the stuff I've done, and seen what I've seen, you can't help but to just, enjoy the ride, y'know?" Jaiden looks at Sonic, then looks at the sunset. As he looks, he thinks about what happened today. He lost the world that he was supposed to rule; all the Limnites except him were gone, his sister was gone, and he had to kill his adopted brother. At these thoughts, the greyed hedgehog tears up and can be audibly heard crying for a bit by the trio, he had nothing, and he knew this all too much. They look over at him with sympathy.
"You, okay, Jaiden?" Sonic asks, looking over at a crying Jaiden. The light-grey hedgehog quickly clears up his tears and fixes his face. He puts on a smile, looking at the distant sun, which was almost fully gone out of the sky.
"Yeah, I'm ight," he weakly says, standing up tall and looking at the sunset, letting all of these emotions fade away with the sunset, or trying to at least. The rest of the trio smiles along with Jaiden's smile, and they prepare to take off. Tails kicks the plane into gear, and it starts to elevate off the ground. The plane gained a lot of air, Amy and Tails in the seats, and Sonic and Jaiden standing at the wing of the plane. Sonic crossed his arms, looking at the night entering the sky, and Jaiden, just holding his necklace, remembered that promise he made to his sister.
'I will make you proud.' Jaiden says to himself, remembering his promise to Shira in an echo in his head. 'Please guide me, Shira.' The hedgehog says to himself, closing his eyes with a smile, still holding the necklace, Shira's necklace. One tear runs down his cheek, and he then looks back up at the night sky, still flying through the air with these new people, to a Resistance base.
