Stealth Suit was not even necessary
Mojave already claimed the would-be invaders, and only one of them managed to escape back to gate, Courier was delighted to see how a single hologram alone managed to wipe a few dozen of them, they did not even seem to realize their attacks were completely inneffective and just stupidly attacked it. At least most wastelanders were smart enough to escape from holograms.
That made her job much easier but less fun. So, Courier, with Rex and ED-E, quickly arrived at the gate and slowly started to examine it. She was fascinated with it, she had seen many bizarre things in her strange life, but this? this was new, first of all this Gate was big, so big that a vertibird probably could fit inside. From her brief examination, she guessed that this gate was some sort of transportation. Lıke connecting two places and freely move between them. If so such technology would be very valuable, sure she had teleportation but it had it's limits, this ''GATE'' on the other hand, could transport anything instantly. And she had to let think tank to examine it to see if it could be replicated. Of course... she couldn't let anyone bother them or her during their examination.
Which is why she throwed bunch of cloud canisters ''inside'' the gate, if there were anyone behind the gate, they would be in one hell of a surprise. She also placed few hologram emitters around it and ordered Yes Man to bring many securitrons. She had many questions, best way to start was capturing few prisoners. But first she had to test how safe this gate was, she ordered yes man to hijack a securitron to go inside for scouting, shortly after Yes Man returned.
''Wow! let me tell you there's a new whole world out there! all green! and no I'm not talking about radioactive green, it's like great war has never happened at all! well if you ignore the corpses'' Yes man reported enthusiasticly, "She raised an eyebrow. Confusion was clear on her face, despite the elite riot gear helmet she wore. She really did not understand what he meant exactly, now she really wanted to take a look now. But no, not yet, she had to wait for the think tank first.
Speak of the devil... Finally, at last, Mobius has arrived, He did not even bother to greet her as he eagerly started to study gate with scanning tools, muttering bunch of incomprehensive words in the process, after few minutes, he spoke.
''Yes.. Yes, yes fascinating'' His screens then looked at her as if he saw her now, courier crossed her arms, signaling that she was expecting answers ''Oh, my apologies. I forgot you were standing there. Well, I finished my examination. Of course, my colleagues and I have to study this in detail, but at least I have an idea how this works''
''It seems to be somehow warping dimensions connecting two points to one place, I wonder how...'' Mobius muttered, well she guessed it right then, but wait... warping reality?
''How is that possible? warping the very reality itself I mean?'' she asked, such technology... would be invaluable if they could crack it open.
''I don't know! and this is why IT'S MAGNICIFENT! BUT WE SHALL LEARN IT'S SECRETS DON'T YOU WORRY! FOR SCIENCE!'' Mobius shouted, great, it seemed psycho slowly started to kick in, she had to finish this conversation quickly.
''And may I ask where the rest of your colleagues are? We literally have a reality-warping technology in here. What could be more important than this?' She asked, Mobius paused for a few seconds before answering, seemingly embarrassed.
''W-Well Dala tried to make some ''adjustments'' with her hologram body and then-'' Courier raised her hand to stop the talking and She facepalmed, of course. Still she was glad to see she still could feel embarrassement.
''Well... I still have to examine the lands beyond, it seems to be perfectly safe, ED-E and Rex come with me, Yes man, bring a few dozen securitrons and follow me, I have many questions but no answers and I need answers.
''Okey dokey! your wish is my command!'' Yes man said as he and securitrons started follow her. Before going to the gate, however, she had one more thing to say.
''Oh and Mobius? bring Elijah and your newest ''colleague'' here as well I think they will be fascinated by this'' Mobius made a sound of agreement, as she focused on the gate and slowly walked towards it, Courier hold her breath and entered the lands beyond.
The Army was in dissarray since Legate Atticus ordered his army to retreat from the gate to escape the cloud, Legate couldn't blame them, of all things, no one expected a death fog, they could barely see the gate as the area beyond it was now completely covered in that red mist, even this far he felt a chill down his spine when he looked at the mist. It was trying to reach heavens, as if like the mist was alive and was offended to see the clean blue sky, thus wanted to corrupt it. He was glad that he made the right decision about sending scouts first, to his regret, all of the scouts had died, probably his friend Manius as well. He couldn't see the tent he left behind. But he had no illusions, Manius was most likely dead.
On the bright side, at least he saved his men, oh he really wanted see face of others who criticized him for his decision to send the scouts now, he had far greater concerns though, specifically that red mist.
What to do now? he knew he should retreat and return to the city of the Empire. but what if those abominations Manius told about him would arrive from the gate as well? Could he let such powerful savage creatures break havok in the lands of Empire? let them kill innocent people? No he couldn't, it was better to stay here and watch the gate for such creatures with an army that could destroy them, thankfully spread of the mist seems to be stopped at the moment, so they could keep watch on the Alnus Hill.
Humankind was a failure
Courier come to this conclusion in her life, or perhaps bullets changed her? perhaps her brain extraction changed her instead? she did not know nor did she really cared. Her journey in the mojave only enforced that claim. No matter what society humanity has created, whatever they were Unity, Enclave, Arroyo,Tribals, Brotherhood, NCR, Legion, Strip, pre-war goverments etc. all of them had fatal flaws brought their end, and cycle continued. Such was the human nature.
Super Mutans and ghouls were failures as well, they had the same flaws plagued mankind.
But was it really humanity's fault when evolution and life itself shaped her species in this way? Life was unforgiving, in nature strong crushed the weak, no matter how humanity tried to mask it, humans did the exactly same thing too. Didn't life itself especially her kind only advanced, evolved through conflict? and eventually become superior to animals despite their weak bodies?
She decided to test this by bringing another apocalypse. Elijah's plans interested her, she sided with him, even she was surprised when she realized she had no grudges to Elijah for collaring her, or to Benny when she finally killed him. Courier felt nothing, she knew she should have felt satisfaction for her revenge, but it felt more like crushing a radroach instead. Thus She and Elijah reverse engineered Sierra Madre technology and made them even better with the help of Think Tank, she unleashed the cloud, nukes, holograms to the mojave, massacred everything stood in her way, Courier was declared as number one mad terrorist in the NCR, to the Legion, Courier was the diabolus of the west.
All of her companions eventually abondoned her in disgust for her atrocities, they did not understand what she wanted to achieve. She wanted to end this cycle, to manipulate, twist the very lite itself and bend it to her will. And when cloud covers the world, humanity would have no choice but to evolve into something different... something better. Or they would die and other species would inherit the Earth.
So after the battle of hoover dam she wandered aroung the mojave she created,in the empty red mist, sometimes with ED-E and Rex, looking answers to her questions.
She saw some potential in ghost people as the next step in the evolution of mankind, they eventually spread to the Mojave after the cloud, she already knew they were intelligent in sierra madre, they set up traps and even had religios beliefs as they worshipped the holograms as ghosts. At first she examined them from afar, but to her surprise, eventually she realized that ghost people in the mojave were not hostile to her. Did they feared her since she easily killed them? did they knew she killed many of their kind? or perhaps it was something different? regardless all of this was so exciting! they grew more and more intelligent, she even saw some primitive buildings they constructed, in the cloud she programmed her robots and holograms to ignore them. And suggested the think tank to leave them alone. To her further fascination, ghost people even leaved her ''gifts'' on front doors of lucky 38. Just what did they think about her?
Think Tank and Robobrains were very interesting too, perhaps cyborgs and robots through science were mankind's future instead? a mechanical technological evolution instead of biological. Elijah definitely seemed to think so. Courier was a cyborg too, she had metal-imbued self-replicating cells, hide stronger than metal, an artificial heart, spine and brain, and a dozen and more implants and mutations crammed into her remaining flesh. Even before and after meeting the Think Tank, she installed implants and cybernetics into her flesh. Courier sometimes wondered what kind of creature she was, outside she looked human(mostly), but inside... she doubted pure human flesh remained in her body due to mutations and cybernetics.
After stepping through the gate first thing reached to her enchanced senses was the smell, both familiar and new, cloud was easy enough to recognize so was the corpse, but what was those new smells?
When She looked around with her enchanced eyes, beyond the mist, she saw it... despite the cloud, life, nature, completely clean and natural. Truly it felt like Great War has never happened at all. How was this possible? new continent perhaps? she was tired with these questions.
Rex barked happily, rolled around, she never seen such happines from Rex, even when she cured him, he wasn't this happy, ED-E too beeped happily and in admiration.
Perhaps she should be happy too, wasn't this the dream of every wastelander? a virgin clean land filled with life, non-mutated animals roaming around, with green grass and leafs, clean fresh air, truly this felt like heaven.
Then she saw all the flaws.
Courier saw the corpsed of the invaders, probably died after she throwed cloud cannisters, she saw an animal brutally tearing apart another animal and eating it, she saw yellow leafs and dead plants. Even here entropy was inevitable.
Just as the securitrons with Yes Man arrived from the gate as well, she now noticed something. Danger. She was too distracted to realize it. She quickly activated her thermal vision from her bionic eyes to confirm it.
There were hundreds if not thousands of humanoid shapes in her vision, there was an army standing not that far from here, cloud must have kept them away. They were definitely primitive and their armor were similiar to the ones she saw in mojave. That means they were would-be invaders, they were enemy, and she would deal with them as such.
''Can you see that army?'' She asked to Yes Man, Pointing her hand to their direction.
''Of Course I can! I already saw those legion cosplayers when I first arrived here, I stayed inside the cloud though, so they did not noticed me, what about them?'' Yes man replied, as if like it was not obvius already
''Well I don't want to see them'' She replied coldly, ''Bring the rest of the securitrons and roboscorpions in here and I will bring the holograms, capture some of them alive''
