Sunlight barely crept through the window when Bo-Katan stirred. She saw that the space on the couch was already empty. He had probably gone off to train, which she was jealous of since she would probably be asked to join a council meeting at some point. She started packing up her things, they would be moving into their new home today. At least the space would be new for both of them and they could learn to grow accustomed to it together. Bo-Katan remembered the first time he was on her ship, it felt like such a violation and she didn't want him moving anything around. She adorned her armor and brushed her teeth before heading out the door.
"Why are you here?" The armorer asked sharply.
"What do you mean? I thought my presence was required." Bo-Katan said sitting at the head of the council table.
"You were just married yesterday. Maybe you have forgotten Lady Kryze but we decided to table all matters that required your decision for a week so that you could spend time with your new mate." Said the armorer.
Bo-Katan cringed a little at the word mate.
"Please, Lady Kryze, we can handle the business today. You've been such a dedicated leader but family life is very important and I'm sure you wish to return to your husband. This is a honeymoon of sorts for you." Said Re-Han.
"If anything urgent arises please let me know and I'll be here." Said Bo-Katan as she not so gracefully got up from the table to leave.
Din Djarin had two small bags packed and stood next to Grogu in his pod at their new residence.
"Well, this is certainly nicer than what we've been sleeping in." Said Din. He had just retrieved him from Ha-Rumi's place, a trusted sitter. She worked in one of the schools and had children of her own that enjoyed playing with Grogu.
He heard jostling of armor in the distance and turned to see Bo-Katan jogging toward them with a bag of her own. The sun illuminated her red hair as it swayed around her face from her jog, captivating him.
"Hey sorry, I'm late boys." She said. "Shall we do this?"
Din Djarin pulled out the fob he was given and held it to the keypad. The door unlocked and he pushed it open. The doorway was wide enough that they could step through together.
"I made sure to put in a request for another bedroom so that Grogu could have his own space." She said.
It was a sweet gesture but Din Djarin internally groaned at the thought of Grogu having his own room to get up to even more mischief. Grogu seemed quite excited by the idea and his pod raced around their new home looking for the empty room that would be his.
"The council gave me time off for the week so that we could spend time together." Bo-Katan said as they walked to the master bedroom to unpack their things.
"The armorer, also informed me that I've been locked out of the system to receive new missions this week." He said.
"I'm not sure what to do with a week off. It has been a while. Perhaps we should have gotten married earlier, there were certainly times in the past year I wouldn't have minded getting out of council meetings for a whole week." She said taking a seat on the edge of the bed.
"Do you think you would have gotten married at all if the council hadn't requested it?" He asked.
He sat next to her and his helmet hissed as he undid the locking mechanism. She wanted to brush his hair back with her fingers but that would probably feel too intimate.
"Hmmm. She didn't have to tell me anything about it because I could see the agony my sister was in when she fell in love. Witnessing that put me off going out of my way to find a partner. It felt safer to be independent. Not being tied down to someone meant that I could also come and go as I pleased. But, perhaps one day I would've if I had become lonely enough and someone wouldn't have minded joining me in my misery."
"Were you close? With your sister?"
She grinned at the thought of her childhood.
"There was a time when we were young that nothing could separate us. Then we started to grow up and notice our difference and we became like strangers to each other. Before she died I thought that we were starting to understand one another more. I would have loved for her to see Mandalore as it is now. Satine would have been way better at all the council affairs."
He stared at her. Her shoulders seemed much more relaxed recounting her childhood than they normally did.
"I'm sorry about your sister."
She squeezed his hand.
"I'm sorry about your family too."
Her hand was still on his. He brought it closer to him for inspection and traced her scars with his finger.
"You know that there are procedures out there where they could replace your hand. I've heard they can make the prosthetic look exactly the same."
His touches felt gentle on her skin but rough on her heart. She wasn't used to such tender contact and slipped her hand away.
"I know. My hand does make me a little slower but it's also a reminder for me of our victory. It wasn't an easy one and we lost good people along the way. I don't want to forget everything that went into building this second chance for us."
He felt immense admiration swell inside him.
"Oh! Before I forget..."
She hopped to her feet and searched through her bag and pulled out a small box. It contained the chain from their wedding ceremony.
"Maybe we could find somewhere in our home to display this?"
He stood up to join her at the doorway of their new room. Din lightly placed a hand on the small of her back and gestured out the door.
"After you."
They walked through their house for the first time, trying to find the perfect spot.
"What do you think about here? We could make this a family room." Bo-Katan suggested.
"Should we hang it from the wall or get a frame to put it in and then mount it to the wall?"
She liked the care he put into his answer.
"Your frame idea sounds lovely. I'll ask around and see where we could get a nice one for it."
There wasn't much in the way of furniture in their home so they sat together on the floor of what they were calling their family room. She seemed to be making plans in her head of how their home was going to look.
"You know I've never really shared a living space with someone before. Would you let me know if I'm ever pushing a boundary? Or if you don't like something that I do?"
She turned her attention to him and patted his knee.
"Of course, I'll try my best to communicate with you. I know I tend to have a short temper and as you've seen I can be particular in how I like things done... this is your space too, I want you to be comfortable here. Grogu as well."
He stood up quickly. Speaking of Grogu it was suspiciously quiet.
"Kid? What trouble are you getting yourself into?" Din called out.
Din Djarin swiftly walked into his room and saw Grogu napping, letting out tiny snores.
"I think he tuckered himself out from all the excitement of a new environment." Din Djarin said.
Bo-Katan had stood up at this point and was making her way to the kitchen area for a glass of water.
"Was there anything, in particular, you'd like to do this week?" She asked.
"I don't know if you've been able to tell yet but I've never really been in a situation like this before so I'm not entirely sure how this goes and what activities to suggest for us."
"We are both warriors. Sitting still like this for a week will probably drive us both crazy. How about a mission? A simple one? We could check the distress call logs and maybe sneak out of here for a bit."
"My clearance card doesn't work to access the logs, they seriously want us making house during this week."
"Maybe your clearance card doesn't work but they wouldn't deny their ruler access." She grinned mischievously and waved her card up in front of him.
"Maybe we could go out for a bit. Grogu is going to be asleep for a while. We should probably pick up a couple of things for the place and perhaps check the logs."
He winked at her and she let out a giddy laugh and rushed off to get her shoes on.
"This is bullshit." Bo-Katan said as she got the same message in big red words as the first three times she swiped her card.
She leaned against the wall and crossed her arms. Looking up at him with a small pout.
"So what's plan b?"
"Hmmmm, training grounds or grocery run?"
Bo-Katan's eyes tracked Koska's approaching movements in the distance and waved her over.
"Awww the new happy couple! What are you doing here?" Koska asked the two of them.
"We were hoping to check the logs to see if there were any missions...but our cards got denied." Said Bo-Katan clearly annoyed.
"Isn't this supposed to be your honeymoon?"
Bo-Katan and Din's eyes slowly met. Koska gently pulled on Bo-Katan's arm.
"One moment." She said to Din and then turned to Bo-Katan.
"So, are things not meshing well?" Koska asked in a hushed tone.
"Things are going fine, we both just don't like sitting still. I've only been on one mission in the past year and this might be my only free week in a while."
"Yeah and everyone thinks you'll be using it to solidify yourselves as a couple, and do you know, the usually newly married couple things. Is he bad in bed and you need a distraction?"
Bo-Katan's cheeks became boiling hot and she knew her color must've changed by the look on Koska's face.
"I assume that if he was pleasing you, you would still be at home."
Bo-Katan covered Koska's mouth instantly uncomfortable.
"We haven't gotten there yet..." Bo-Katan whispered and looked over her should to see if Din had caught onto their conversation
"What? Why not? You're literally married. Even though none of us have seen his face we can tell that he looks at you...wantonly. There was always a vibe between the two of you. Honestly, bets were going around long before all of this on if the two of you would smash or not."
Bo-Katan's mouth was left gaping.
"So... here." Koska handed over her card to Bo-Katan.
"Why are you giving me this?"
"Wedding present. Just make sure the two of you complete the mission since my name will be attached to the file." Koska gripped Bo-Katan's shoulder. "And try to have fun with him, maybe loosen up a little."
Bo-Katan smiled and tilted her head.
"Thank you so much."
"Then come back and tell me everything; spill the tea."
Koska winked not very subtly.
"Okay, yeah, nope. Thanks for this."
Bo-Katan was already briskly walking to the door and grabbing Din's arm for him to follow.
Note: So a confession, I'm demisexual, and it can be hard to relate sometimes to more sexual content. I'm always in awe of romance writing because it was something that I didn't think I would be able to put words towards and capture accurately. Going to try it out next chapter and see what happens
