Enough is Enough

Authors Note: This is AU; A different scenario after Rick returns to the Precinct in Episodes 3-1. Based on a few quotes I live by,

"Castle, go home! Go back to your ex-wife, your Hamptons, your book parties, okay? I've got work to do." This is what prompted this story

I don't own Castle; I only use the characters for amusement purposes, except the ones I create.

Also, we take liberties with the timeline from Canon and use events to make this more believable fiction, thanks. Remember This IS AU. Timelines, Events, and Outcomes may vary from the Original Script.

WARNING! THIS WILL NOT END AS A CASKETT FIC. If that disturbs you, please don't read

EPILOGUE

Ten Years Later

Rick and Kyra had settled into married life as if they never had been apart. One of the highlights of their wedding was the conversation between Kyra and Sheila Blaine.

FLASHBACK

"Kyra, I can't believe you are so hell-bent on throwing your life away with that nobody, who calls himself a writer. Look I talked to Gregg, and I think if you apologized, he would take you back"

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MOTHER? I was the faithful one, he was the one who cheated not once but twice that he was caught doing, God Only knows how many times he was unfaithful. When did you see Gregg and what brought this moronic conversation up?" Kyra was spitting fire, one more time Sheila tried to control her, and she was past that stage in her life.

"He saw the paper and called me to verify that the news was true, so we met for lunch. I told him, that you had been acting crazy since you returned,"

"STOP RIGHT THERE MOTHER, I have not acted crazy, I have shut you out of my life. I don't agree with your motherly advice, get a stud to service me, allow Gregg to cheat, boys will be boys, what the hell kind of a person are you? I know you and Dad are only married on paper, but it's not like that, for me. I love Rick, and I know he loves me. I would never have let you talk me into leaving to go to school in Paris if I knew how bad it was, and how you would hurt him and me.

"No More, go screw your boyfriend and stay out of my life, you're not welcome in my life, or my home, not get out! She held the door open and slammed it behind Sheila as she left. That was the last time she saw Sheila Blaine, her husband divorced three months later, and her boyfriend dropped her for a younger woman. She wound up moving in with her sister in New Jersey, depending on the alimony and Social Security checks to get by.

CURRENT TIME

Rick and Kyra had moved to a sprawling home situated on 4 acres of land one hour upstate, it was close enough to the city conveniences, yet far enough away to afford them the privacy. Alexis was married, and she and Kyra delivered healthy babies, both boys, within two hours of each other. Alexis named her son after her dad, and Kyra named her son, Matthew David Castle, which stood for Gift from God, and Beloved for David.

She knew that her little boy was truly a gift from above and she cherished the opportunity to become a mom. They seldom got into the city anymore, since Martha had passed, and Alexis and her husband lived on the next four-acre plot next to them. It happened to be the boy's birthday, and after much pleading from Ricky and his mother Alexis, she relented and allowed Matt to spend the weekend with his Great Uncle, even if they were the same age.

Rick surprised her with tickets to a play she had mentioned she liked, and then dinner at LeCerque, the place he had always wanted to take her to when they were in college but couldn't afford. As they were being seated, a brunette woman who looked familiar noticed them and whispered something to the man she was with.

A few moments later the woman stood before their table, and shyly said, Excuse me Rick, Kyra, it's Kate, Kate Beckett as you knew me back then. Today, I'm Mrs. Brent Edwards, and have been for the last seven years. Congratulations on your son, he looked so much like you both, well the pictures I've seen" she gushed,

"Kate, I can't believe it's you," Kyra said, you look fantastic. "Congratulations on your wedding, I know Rick tried to contact you a few times at the precinct until Roz finally admitted you took your retirement and left the city," Kyra said,

"Brent Edwards? Kate wasn't he your high school sweetheart that Maddie"

"I was the idiot back then Rick, but I looked for Kate for five years, until I found out that she had just ended her engagement with Dr. Davidson. It took me another two months to knock on her door, and we talked for hours on end before we even went to Remy's for a hamburger." He said, turning red, that his past with Maddy had been discussed and remembered all these years later.

"We were just kids back then Rick, and if you knew Maddy as I did, I couldn't fault Brent entirely," Kate said coming to her husband's defense. "What are you up to now Rick, I keep watching the new releases, but I never see any new works coming from you, have you retired?" Kate asked,

Kyra started laughing and then said "I'm sorry Kate, since our son was born Rick still writes, but he's a children's book author now. We spend a lot of time with our charity work, St. Jude, Shriners, Moffitt Cancer so we stay pretty busy." Rick smiled and shrugged his shoulders,

"Hey, the profits from the books go to one of the causes and it keeps me out of Kyra's dog house for doing something stupid" he laughed

"Alexis is a mom now, and we get to see our Grandson and the boys play together quite a bit. Rick bought each his own horse, and they are learning how to care for animals." Kyra said, "You know Kate the boring Mommy and housewife stuff," as Kate nodded her head.

"Well, we won't hold you, our table is ready but if you want to talk sometime, or maybe get a drink, you still own the Haunt don't you Rick" she laughed as she placed her business card down.

KB Investigations, Katherine Beckett, President then three office locations and several phone numbers. I wrote my personal cell on the back, it was really good to see you both, and I'm so happy for you" Kate said sincerely,

"As we are for you, it looks like we both took a chance on our first loves, and it proved to be the right choice. We will definitely keep in touch, "Rick said, as he placed the card in his suit coat,

Once they had walked away Kyra noticed her husband smiling, "I know Rick, it's good to see she pulled herself out of the bottle and is enjoying life now. I'm happy for her as well,"

"Mrs. Castle, I love you, just in case I haven't said it lately. It's great to see how everyone found their soulmate, even with all of the obstacles we had to overcome." He said,

Kyra leaned in and kissed him sweetly, "I know you were worried about her Sweetheart, now you can relax, we all have a fantastic life to live,"

Rick smiled, and raised his glass, "Amen, Mrs. Castle, Amen."

The End

The end of another Castle Journey with many thanks to the readers who enjoyed, read, and reviewed it even after it was determined not to be a Caskett Ending. Sometimes in life, we must take a few detours before we get back on the correct course, at least it was a happy ending for both RC and KB.

Till Next Time,
