Despite her reputation for hating boys, Fanny Fulbright did in fact have the one thing no one could have ever imagined, a crush. Having a crush was always awkward, and when you are Global Tactical Officer for the Kids Next Door it causes more problems. She devoted almost every waking moment of her life to the KND, from her time as a medic to Head of Decommissioning to Global Tactical Officer she had always put the KND first and foremost in her life. To say she was dedicated to her job would be an understatement, and having a crush was something she could not let get in the way of her duty. So why did this boy stick out to her so much? She knew all boys were stupid, she had been working with them long enough to know that, and this one was no exception. And yet, here she was, infatuated with probably the dumbest of all KND operatives.
Numbuh 4, why couldn't she get him out of her head? She thought gazing at the ceiling from her bed. She often replayed the memory of the time she confessed prior to temporarily decommissioning him, she always felt embarrassed that she chose then of all times to be open and upfront to him, but he could not remember it happening, so she was saved the embarrassment of the word getting out. Well at least she hoped he had no recollection of it…
She thought that maybe she should start being nicer to him? Her often spiky personality probably was not endearing herself to him, maybe she should take the time to befriend him? She did not have many friends outside of Numbuh 3 and Numbuh 362. Fanny never had the best social skills, but she could at least try. They would both forget about it when they turn 13 anyway, what does she have to lose by at minimum making friends with him?
"Fanny, it's time to go to school!" Cried her mother from downstairs.
"Ok mom." She sighed to herself, she had spent almost all morning thinking about her crush and had completely lost track of time, she haphazardly stuffed her books into her schoolbag and rushed downstairs.
The drive to school was a quiet one on Fanny's part, she gazed out of the car's passenger window with her head resting in her hand. She tuned out her brothers, who were bickering about something she couldn't possibly care less about, all she had on her mind was what she would do in the event of her running into Numbuh 4.
After a full ten minutes of blocking out her brother's spat, the car had pulled up to Gallagher Elementary. She said her goodbyes to her mother made her way to the school. She couldn't help noticing that people would steer clear if she was heading their way, she couldn't blame them however, she knew she wasn't exactly an easy person to get along with and she kept her softer side closely guarded. She did not want anyone to perceive her as weak, particularly with the burden of responsibility she had on her shoulders as a high ranking KND operative. At home she shed Numbuh 86 and allowed herself to be Fanny Fulbright, the only other time she let her true self show was at her infamous slumber party where she was betrayed by Numbuh 12, the first person she ever considered a true friend, all she could muster was a mournful sigh at that particular memory.
She opened her locker and placed inside her books for later in the day. Suddenly she heard an oh so familiar voice and she froze in place, it was him.
"Just close you cruddy thing!" Numbuh 4 barked.
Her head turned slightly to get a look at him, it appeared he was having trouble stuffing his locker, she giggled quietly to herself, he was even kind of cute when he was angry, she thought.
After a few minutes of struggling with his locker he had won with one mighty slam of the locker's door, frustrated he stormed off grumbling to himself. Fanny gazed at him as he walked away, her cheeks were glowing red at just his mere presence.
She snapped herself out of her daze and returned to planet Earth, she had got what she needed out of her locker and was ready to head to her first class. However, she noticed something, a lone schoolbook sat directly below Numbuh 4's locker. She looked around to see if anyone was looking and walked towards it, she picked up the book and despite its poor handwriting and spelling she found it had "Wallabee Beetles" scrawled on it, it was his! Her heart skipped a beat, she had his book maybe this was her chance. She was sure that he would appreciate her finding his lost book, her plan had come to her, and, in her excitement her walking quickly morphed into a skip as she made her way to class.
