Hogan roved around the camp one dreary afternoon. No missions were planned and business was slow to the point of non-existent, to put it in short, Hogan was bored. Therefore he had some time to do one of his favorite hobbies, annoy the Kommandant.
He strolled through the outer office and was only slightly annoyed that Klinks' secretary wasn't there. Pushing the office door open he found Klink doing a mound of paperwork at his desk.
"Hogan today is not the day to be complaining." Klink said continuing to write.
Hogan plopped himself down in the chair opposite Klink.
"You sure? Because I'm pretty sure I can complain any day I want." he smiled
Klink kept writing while ignoring Hogan. The American colonel leaned forward to try and catch Klink's attention. This wasn't any fun unless his German counterpart actually paid attention.
Then a glint from Klinks left hand caught his eye. Hogan's eyebrows moved closer to his hairline. Klink had a wedding ring on his finger!
"Congratulations Kommandant. Finally found the one?" Hogan asked
"What?" Klink looked up at him finally.
"You've got a wedding band on! Congratulations." Klink looked at his left hand and then planted his head in his right obviously annoyed.
"No Hogan it's not mine. It was my father's. My lovely sister found our parents' rings while cleaning and thought to send them to me for some reason." the last part was almost a mumble.
"Soo…why are you wearing it then?" Klink looked like he wanted to go hide even more than he usually does.
"I decided to try it on and now it won't come off." He sighed and drummed his fingers against his head "My father mocks my ability to find a wife from beyond the grave even." The Kommandant shrank even more.
"Oh" was the only response Hogan really had at the moment.
He had never really thought about Klink being lonely before. Now that ring was really bothering Klink, even more than Hogan probably could. Unfortunately for the ring, Hogan was quite competitive. He started to offer a way to get the ring off when Klink snapped up.
"Hogan, why am I even telling you this?" Klink threw his arms up and was about to go on one of his signature rants when Hogan had an idea.
"You could use some butter." He said casually.
"Butter? What good would butter do me? A nice piece of toast wouldn't solve my problem!" Klink slapped his hands on his desk.
Hogan rolled his eyes and slapped his forehead with his hand. Klink may be a Kommandant but he was no genius.
"No you put butter on your finger and slide the ring off." he droned
Klink's eyebrows drew together and he looked from the ring to Hogan.
"Really? Or is this some idea for you to make a mockery of me?"
Hogan stood and headed for the door.
"One minute." Hogan went out and made his way to the kitchens. Quickly he found the butter and nabbed a spoonful.
Once back in the office Hogan entered and went straight to Klink. He grabbed the Kommandants hand and slapped the spoonful of butter directly on the ring.
"What are you do…" Klink started to ask but Hogan grabbed the ring and pulled..hard.
Klink yelped and went to lean forward to relieve the pressure on his knuckle but Hogan planted his empty hand on Klink's shoulder and pushed him back. The ring came loose with a nearly audible pop making Hogan take a few steps backward and sending Klink leaning in his chair.
"Ouch!" The Kommandant whined inspecting his finger. Hogan eyed the buttery ring in his hand before tossing it to Klink.
"There. One ring removal system."
"Interesting. How did you know of this method?" Klink asked.
Now it was Hogan's turn to sigh.
"I had to help my father get his off after the divorce. His finger had grown in the years they were married and it wouldn't come off after it was all final." He turned to leave "I guess taking wedding bands off when your single is always painful." With that, he sauntered out leaving a confused Kommandant in his wake.
