C: Civilization

Carter was down to his last few cigarettes till the Red Cross sent more. He leaned against the front of the Kommandants building in a nice spot of shade. He pulled his lighter out and struck it but no flame appeared. He looked at it for a moment in confusion, surely there was enough in it to light one lousy cigarette? Carter struck it again and again, even cupping his hand around it to try and coax a flame out.

Eventually, he relented and stowed his lighter back in his pocket. That's when something hit his knuckle, drawing the object out he found that it was a magnifying glass. Childhood memories of burning words into sticks came flooding back to him.

Kommandant Klink had been out for a stroll around the camp to try and get his eyes to uncross from staring at paperwork for so long. Rounding the corner he came across Carter. The young man appeared to be angling a magnifying glass to try and light a cigarette. So focused was Carter that he didn't see the German stroll up to him.

The older German watched Carter for a few moments before taking pity on the man's inferior American brain. He pulled out his own lighter and struck a flame to it on the first try. The click of the lighter got Carter's attention as he looked at the German.

Carter leaned forward and lit his cigarette.

"Thanks." he said through a puff of smoke.

Klink snapped his lighter back shut and stowed it before crossing his arms behind him.

"Carter around her we are quite civilized." He stated smartly before strolling off.
