A/N: Hello everyone. Zephyr here, so you may wonder where I've been for the past month or so.
I've been getting back into Animal Crossing so you may know what this story's about. I've been busy focusing on Pokemon GO community days, alongside irl stuff, so it's the reason why I haven't been posting as much.
And speaking of Animal Crossing, this is the first time I'll be writing something related to the said game. Now, you may wonder why I haven't done any content of it sooner, so let me explain from the start.
I got New Horizons on Christmas Day almost 2 years ago, and I was pretty busy with the game itself. A while later I stopped playing in order to work on projects, and once I came back, my interest in Animal Crossing came back.
Note this takes place during a Modern AU, where the villagers and residents all live in a city.
Now without further ado, let's get started.
"Pah, been looking for this bird for hours.." Said the Eagle. Apollo can be seen laying on his bed, holding a Switch in his feathered hands. He's been playing what appeared to be "Pokemon: Sword" for not too long, and all he was doing was shiny hunting.
Now, shiny hunting can be pretty hard, but in modern games according to Biff, it makes it easier depending on the time they've spent, or the required ingredients to use. Apollo however hasn't completed the full Pokedex yet, and he still hasn't gotten the shiny charm. Unfortunately, he never had the Shiny Charm...up to now.
Was he really looking for a shiny Hawlucha? No, but is he looking for a Cramorant? Turns out the player is at Route 5, currently riding their bike around to hatch eggs faster, and it appears they have their Talonflame in their party; the flame body ability makes it easier and faster to hatch eggs.
And turns out he's doing the Masuda method on his recently caught Braviary. He is looking for a shiny Rufflet.
A few hours have passed, and still no shiny Eaglet. He'd killed some time eating dinner, working out, and hung out with his human villager friend for a bit before coming back to his game, and despite spending the whole day, no luck.
It was almost 8 PM, he should be getting himself ready for bed now. Usually he goes to bed at 9, but now he prefers to sleep early- No. He wants that shiny Eaglet, and he doesn't care if it's too late to get it now.
8 PM, and no shiny Rufflet.
9 PM, no shiny Rufflet.
Almost 10 PM, he should be heading to bed now, but with all the luck used up, still no shiny Rufflet.
Apollo spent days and days, egg after egg for a shiny, but he still hasn't gotten the luck he deserved.
10 PM, still no shiny.
Nearly 11 PM, and still none.
The eagle grew tired. He should be heading to bed right now. He spent hours looking for the shiny bird he wanted, but after nearly a thousand eggs, he still hasn't had any luck.
"Pah! Just give me the shiny bird for once!"
His eyes grew baggy, he wanted to end this shiny hunt for tonight, but all he wanted was one shiny eagle Pokemon. Just as the final egg in his party hatched; and unfortunately not a shiny, Apollo lets out a defeated sigh. "That's enough shiny hunting.."
He was already growing tired. He was supposed to pull an all-nighter in order to get the shiny Rufflet he wanted, but without the Shiny Charm, it was difficult, and already difficult than before.
The cranky eagle villager yawned and placed his Switch onto the charging port. He's done with shiny hunting for tonight, and he wanted to continue the next morning. Just as he was about to head to the bathroom, a loud scream can be heard across the hallways.
"A-AVERY!?" Apollo screamed as he heard what sounded like his other Eagle friend, but as he opened the door, it was Zephyr, on his bed with his Switch next to him. "Oh, I thought you we-"
"SHINY..TYROGUE.." Said the human Villager as he grabbed the Switch that was lying next to him. "SHINY..TYROGUE. I FINALLY CAUGHT IT!"
"Pah..a shiny Tyrogue, huh?" The cranky Apollo boasted as he walked over to the Switch that showed Zephyr's shiny Tyrogue on the screen. "And it's not hacked, is it?"
"Nope! I've been looking for one that wasn't from someone else's, and I finally got one! Trust me, it's legit!" The human villager responded enthusiastically as he showed the Eagle the Tyrogue on the screen. "He reminds me of Adir!"
"Adir.." Apollo sighed as he turned himself away from Zephyr. "If only I knew how to look for a shiny I wanted."
"What are you looking for?"
Apollo opened his mouth to talk, but nothing just came out. "A shiny Rufflet?"
The villager shook as he heard what Zephyr asked him. "How'd you know?"
"I heard you were struggling earlier." Zephyr spoke as he hopped out of bed, still holding the Switch in his hands. "I'm a shiny hunter too, so it's hard to look for the rare variants in general. What I suggest you to do is to try the best you can, and maybe when you find one, the next time you'll look for is something different!"
The next morning, Apollo came back to his bedroom to find his Switch in its usual position, sitting on the charging dock. He sighed and took the device out, pulling out "Sword" into the screen. The player is back into the same Route, with his Talonflame by their side, flapping its wings up and down.
"Back to business.." Said the Eagle as he moved his character with the Talonflame following them.
Hours have passed and no shiny. He'd collected almost a hundred eggs in total, and as he went through each one, the eggs that hatched still haven't reveal the shiny Rufflet Apollo wanted.
He dreamt of getting a Rufflet via Masuda hunting, and his wish is about to come true someday..someday..
The first batch of eggs hatched, no shiny bird.
Second batch of eggs later, no shiny bird.
Third batch of eggs later, still no shiny bird.
He was getting close to the final two batches of eggs remaining in his PC boxes. The next batch of eggs, and still no shiny Rufflet.
The time has come, the final batch of eggs remaining in his PC. He was close in giving up, he didn't want to spend the rest of his time collecting thousands of eggs from the daycare worker. All he wanted was a shiny Rufflet.
First row of eggs, no shiny.
Second row later, no shiny.
Third row, and still now shiny.
He was getting close to the last row. Hatching five eggs in total, and still no shiny.
"Pah..where's that shiny Rufflet now?" Apollo growled as he continued moving his character on the screen, their Talonflame following them in the process.
He's close in giving up now. Fourth row remaining, and unfortunately still no shiny.
With 738 eggs in total, the eagle has his hopes the last row could be the shiny he wanted. Dragging the final row back into his party box, he let out a low sigh and braced himself. He's going to get that shiny, and he's going to get it no matter the number of eggs it took long to collect.
"Oh?" Those were the words before the egg hatched. The first egg of the party box broke into pieces, and no shiny. Apollo started to sweat profusely, he was getting close in giving up.
The next two eggs remain, and still no shiny. His face grew red, and he continued to move his character on the screen. "Oh?"
This could be the last egg. As it started to bounce up and down, the egg shook and broke into a few pieces, before a large beam of light shot out of it. Apollo's breathing got heavier and his heart began to race. As the light faded, finally, a brown Eaglet hatched out of the egg, letting out its war cry while attempting to fly.
He had found the shiny he was looking for. After several days of hunting via Masuda, he finally got the small eaglet he was looking for. Standing up with a normal expression on its face, the screen said, "Rufflet hatched from the egg!"
"YES!" Screamed the crank eagle villager as he hopped of of bed, with his switch next to him. "YES YES YES!"
Just like Zephyr said, you always gotta try your best, and when you find one, you gotta hunt for something different.."
-THE END-
