An obvious statement, but pokemon doesnt belong to me. This is an english translation of my fanfic, which was originaly wrote on spanish.

"No! It was all a lie, a deception! ... I hate you! I hate you all!"

Those words echoed in the mind of this man who was once a trainer, for of course, they were his own words, sayings that ended what, once upon a time, was the best part of his life.

"...Today marks another year? And they say the devil has no sense of humor...".

Having conveyed these words in a dry, raspy tone inside the tent where he slept, Fives slowly decided to get up from his sleeping bag, taking care not to hit his disabled limb, which in this case would be his right arm. Morning had arrived in Hoenn, and it was time to continue his journey.

After stowing his camping equipment, and eating his last remaining ration for breakfast, Fives decides to look at a map he brought with him.

"Hmm... Well, I guess it's getting less and less to Rustboro City, or so I hope. I'm out of food."

Fives was the only son within the ◻◻◻◻◻◻◻◻ family, a high ranking family within society, due to being a family of champions. All of the first-born sons and daughters in the family were champions in the most important tournaments, whether it was champion of the region, or champion in the Pokémon beauty pageants. According to his parents, this hegemony lasted for generations. Fives' father, who was the champion of the Pokémon League in Hoenn, and his mother, undisputed champion in all Pokémon beauty contests, instructed him as a child and instilled in him the responsibilities of the ◻◻◻◻◻◻◻◻ family name, his duty as a son of champions to live up to his ancestors, and to uphold the glory of his family by becoming the next champion of Hoenn.

However, young Fives had other aspirations. Fives observed the world, (and under the scolding of his parents) not from his comfortable locked room, but from the outside. He used to venture into safe places, such as nearby parks, where he could observe the relationships between people and their Pokémon; the affection, respect, trust, love and care they had for one another, bonds that extended beyond their hearts...or so he heard on Professor Pokémon's programs. Still, it intrigued and piqued the curiosity of Fives, who always took every opportunity to keep this in the back of his mind, in what he believed, was his future.

A few years later, Fives was old enough to begin his Pokémon adventure. In his parents' eyes, it was time for him to fulfill his duty within the family, but for Fives, it was time to begin his fantastic adventure, worthy of a children's story.

Or so he thought.

If it wasn't for the cane he had in his left hand, Fives would have arrived at Rustboro City crawling. Luckily, thanks to the good endowment of Super Repellent he acquired, he was able to avoid any complication of a wild Pokémon attacking by surprise, however, he arrived fatigued. The years were not very pleasant for him, and he knew it, but he decided to continue despite the consequences.

In the past, Rustboro City was in simple words, a small big city, but over the years, because of its ability to possess a port that invites trade and with the success of Devon Corporation, the city underwent a considerable expansion. Apartments and stores everywhere, factories and warehouses that demonstrate the obvious growth and success within Devon, and curiously, now Rustboro's Gym was more like a huge stadium, where no matter how far away you were from it, you could always hear the cheers of the spectators. The beach of Rustboro City was as it had always been: crowded with people with their Pokémon. Azumarills, Poochyenas, Mudkips, Tailows, Pelippers, Goldeens, Magikarps... you could name any Pokémon, and you were sure to find them out and about, happy and cheerful playing among their peers, or their trainers.

Still, Fives had only one thing on his mind: Devon Corporation.

"Well...I've finally arrived, now I just hope the favors were worth it, and it's not a mere scam."

As he entered the offices, he could see that, despite a giant in terms of technology and research, the reception hallway was quite modest. Perhaps they wanted to avoid intimidating or didn't want to make a bad first impression? This was Fives' thinking, who, the moment he set foot in the offices, was greeted by a secretary manning the center of the hallway.

"Good morning, welcome to Devon Corporation., where we make your imagination explode. Tell me, how can I help you?

"Hello, I need access to one of Devon's warehouses, there are certain...objects I would like to remove."

"Excuse me, but you must be an employee, or authorized to access the company's warehouses."

Fives pulls a letter from his jacket pocket, stamped with a sticker bearing the Devon company symbol, and hands it to the secretary. "I hope this can give me the clearance I need."

"One second" The secretary begins to read the letter, and consult her computer, typing steadily, looking to corroborate the contents of the letter.

"Very good" The secretary confirms. "You must have very close contacts within the company" "Here you go" The secretary hands Fives a key. "Section K, Warehouse 76"

"Thank you very much" Fives receives the keys, and immediately heads for the exit.

"Do you need me to guide you out?"

"Don't worry, I may be old and crippled, but I can still read and walk."

"Okay, thank you for stopping by our offices, have a nice day."

"Likewise."

Finally, the meeting is getting closer and closer. With every step towards the warehouse, Fives' heart was pounding faster and faster. And how could it not? This meeting had a lot of meaning. He wanted to see them, especially her, but could they forgive him, the one who had committed a terrible betrayal, all because of his immaturity and greed?

Fives' Pokémon adventure did not begin in the same way as other youngsters his age. His parents had personally chosen Fives' initial Pokémon, in this case, a Torchic, because of the powerful final evolution it represented. They explained to Fives the steps he had to follow before becoming the next champion of the region: Acquire power, capture powerful Pokémon, challenge the gym leaders and acquire their medals, and finally, defeat the Elite 4 that guarded the champion's gates, in this case, his father. They weren't going to give him the title, but of course, his parents handed him a considerable amount of money so he wouldn't have to worry about it, camping equipment, plenty of Ultra Balls, a pokedex, and supplies such as food for him and his Pokémon so he could get off to a fairly comfortable start. He was also given a map of the region, and locations where he could catch powerful Pokémon, such as Manetrics, Bagons, Machops, Spheals, among others.

However, Fives only cared about the experience and the adventures he was going to share with his future companions, and after short farewells, he headed to the nearest town, in this case, Dewford Town. Already en route, he decided it was a good time to meet his new feathered friend.

"Okay, Torchic, come here!" the young Fives said after touching the button located in the middle of the Pokeball where he was standing. A beam of light emerged from the open Pokeball, and with a red light materialized the Torchic inside.

"(Torchic!) (tor tor?) (torchic!)" The orange chick expressed happily, jumping up and down and running back and forth with his new friend.

"My, you're a fast-paced boy. I'm Fives, and you and I are going to be best friends ever!."

"(Torchic!)" The little bird, happy to hear such words, pounces on Fives and starts nuzzling his new friend's neck with his head.

"Haha, okay Torchic, we must make more friends and become stronger if we're going to enjoy this adventure!"

"(Torchic!)"

"Hmm...I think I should give you a proper name. I don't think mentioning the name of your species at every turn is the most pleasant thing to do."

For a few seconds, Fives thought of a name that would accommodate his friend well.

"How about the name...Cinder?"

The bird pokemon looked at the sky for a few seconds, hesitantly.

"(Torchic!)" The feathered Pokémon nods its head, affirming its decision.

"Okay, Cinder, let's start our great adventure, shall we?

"(Torchic?)" Ash tilts his head in questioning fashion.

"You know, explore, make friends have adventures and have fun."

And so, Fives and his new companion, Cinder, began their adventure, but...

How did it end so badly?

Fives kept walking inside the long asphalt corridors that surrounded the warehouses, closer and closer to the one he was looking for, but with every step he took, he felt that time was slowing down.

"Is it because of your influence, or is it a sign that you want nothing more to do with me?"

Dubitative, but determined, Fives continued on his way, until he reached warehouse 76.

"Okay, maybe none of you want to see me, but I want to see you."

With his heart racing, Fives turns the deadbolt and unlocks the padlock that held the warehouse door shut.

"I can't believe it...they're really still here."

Fives could see, besides the boxes flooding the warehouse, his old scouting equipment, but most importantly, the backpack in which he kept his Pokémon.

"Finally, we will be reunited once again" Small tears were falling from his face.

After picking up his backpack, and some other implements he used in his youth, such as his pokedex, he left the stores, and headed to the nearest store to restock and buy food for himself, and a considerable amount of Pokémon. Once this was done, he decided to leave Iron City, and began to head into the forest, but not before applying a light amount of Repel to avoid bringing unwanted company. When he knew he was far enough away, he decides to rest for a moment, and observe the bag that contained his companions.

"Well...who should I release first? It's been many years, and they may still be anxious to get out, but the cautious thing to do would be to take them out one at a time."

For a while, Fives thought about who should come out first, who would hold the least grudge, or desire to end his life. Until he finally decided to leave it to chance, shuffling the pokeballs inside his bag, and pulling one out at random without looking. However, he immediately recognized who this pokeball belonged to, which specifically was an Honor Ball.

"Wow... who knew you'd be the first, but hey, that's the way fate would have it, right?"

Fives took the Honor Ball, pressed the button, and tossed it in front of him. At first, there was no reaction from that device. Fives thought it was either a malfunction, or that there was no hope at all that she wanted to see him again.

"Well, I guess you have every right not to go out. I'd better try another one."

Fives randomly grabbed another one of the pokeballs when suddenly, in front of him, a red beam of light materialized a certain Pokémon of human appearance, which stood out for its beauty and elegance, whose hair color was green that stood out with its pale skin color, not to mention that red protuberance that crossed its torso and back, where its heart was possibly located.

"(Gaaar...)."

At first, she looked confused and a little scared. Fives slowly approaches towards her until she is less than a meter away.

"(Gard...evoir?)".

"It's been a long time, Gard...no...Amalia."

However, after regaining her senses and recognizing the person in front of her, the Gardevoir named Amalia began to give off a murderous aura, and grabs Fives by his neck.

"(VOIR!)" Amalia expresses with immeasurable rage, and increasingly squeezes the neck of the one who was once her "Master", and the love of her life.

"AGH" Fives expresses his pain, and tries to wriggle out of Amalia's hands, to no avail.

"N-n...it's n-not t-the w-worst re...unions we've t-had" Fives chuckles lightly.

That gesture enraged Amalia more, who now decides to release Fives, only to squeeze his neck with her psychic powers.

"AGHHHHH!"

At that moment, Fives didn't know what to do. He was at the mercy of the one who cherished him more than anything else in the world, and to whom he had committed the ultimate betrayal. He had broken her heart, and abandoned her. Fives thought that that was excuse enough to justify what he was doing... however.

"(No...I can't die now, not until...I finish what I started.)"

Fives remembers the pokeball he had in his hand, which could perhaps be the last hope he had to survive that tragic reunion, and after pressing the button with his last breath, he decides to throw it, however, there was no response.

"(Ha...so...this is...my end?...I guess it's...right...for me...)".

Fives was about to lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen, but just as everything went black, he noticed a Pokémon materializing in the same spot where he had thrown the pokeball. Kneeling down and analyzing the situation, Cinder observes his trainer being hung by Amalia's powers, and immediately pounces against the Gardevoir with his Bold Bird move.

"(GHAA)" Amalia had managed to raise a barrier before Cinder hit it, but that didn't stop it from taking a bit of damage, as well as releasing Fives from its psychic grip.

"(Blaziken!)" After the move, Cinder immediately steps in front of Fives, standing guard with only his left arm, while keeping his right arm hanging motionless. That's right... he had lost it a long time ago.

"How...good...to see you again...my friend..." After greeting his friend, Fives lost consciousness. And now, both pokemon stared at each other, preparing for a fight that would decide the fate of their trainer.
