I don't own House of the Dragon.
Chapter 1
Alicent has been queen for years. She has already five children. Well, she had to send her youngest son, Daeron Targaryen to be fostered in Oldtown, her birthplace.
She has her four children with her here in Kingslanding.
'It is a long and eventful battle, but now I have a secret weapon…!' Alicent smiled viciously at her second daughter who had her hair being comb and looked at the mirror.
Princess Viserra Targaryen is the perfect little princess. She is very apple in King Viserys eyes.
Indeed, a little lady. At age six, she was a well-mannered, quiet, and contemplative child whose complexion, while pretty, was too pale and fragile.
But Alicent recalls that she too was pretty when she was young, but now she is at a mature age as beautiful as a queen.
Unlike the rest of her children wearing green colors for her faction the Greens against the Blacks. Viserra's dressed in autumn colors of yellow, orange, red, purple, and brown blending mixed and stitching patterns are beautiful as fall leaves.
Viserra Targaryen is another child to be proud of.
Already showing more customs as a daughter of a king. Viserra is blessed with more worthy titles.
Princess of the seven kingdoms.
The Jewel of the Dragons.
And the most favorable title that people tend to call her…
The Autumn Princess.
Despite what seemed to be a perfect fairytale for smallfolk to brag about their noble princess. The reality of the royal family is more the reality and truth of the so-called unity of Targaryen.
Her family life tends to leave much estrangement. Viserra deeply loves them, but on her mother's side, the Hightowers are ambitious people who would rather see Aegon Targaryen whose blood came from their mother on the throne instead of an unstable princess Rhaenyra Targaryen with no power or authority other than the title as the Heir to their father's throne.
Yes, it is a battle that could break their kingdom into a civil war.
Viserra looked at the portrait of her family picture that was painted years back before Daeron left to be fostered in Oldtown.
King Viserys never shows much love or attention to the other children besides Princess Rhaenyra and her offspring. That had changed the day she was named by him. It is Princess Viserra's affection as well as favor keeping the king happy and willing to do almost anything to make her happy. Viserra had a feeling that his love for her is not enough compare to Rhaeynra's being the more loved and favorable daughter. Still, she clings to the naïve hope that he does love them just as much as he loved Princess Rhaenyra.
Aegon is a bully, lazy, and sexually active toward the maids and whores. He even drank wine every time. He hated his youngest sister. For compared to him, she is the bright, pious, and obedient girl that received love and attention from their sire. Aegon was always jealous that Viserra had Viserys, Alicent, and even Aemond's attention and protection. He would tease her and mock him, but Viserra would ignore his taunts by reading her books gifted by Oldtown.
Helaena Targaryen was supposed to be a role model of being the older and wiser sister to Viserra, but they are mutually understanding. Viserra in her honesty, cringed at the sight of bugs. SO, there is not much future for their closeness.
But there is her favorite brother, Aemond.
Aemond was always her knight. He would often shield her away from any other stranger's company. They would spend days in the sun and read books together. Every time he was picked on by Aegon and their nephews, he would always come running toward her like Viserra. He would cry in anger or frustration. Viserra did what being a good sister would do. She would let him lay on her lap as she combed his hair to calm him down. She understands that Aemond was frustrated about not having a dragon. In fact, all three of her older siblings didn't even have eggs to lay in their cradles until they claimed dragons.
Viserra and Daeron were the only ones that managed to have dragon eggs in their cradles.
Her dragon was born from the Balerion The Black Dread. His name is Onyx.
If you believe that she has a complex relationship with her siblings, try complete hostility with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Viserra is not sure why Rhaenyra had complete malice and hostilities come from. But she was told that the day she was baptized a name from her sire. The entire court saw Viserra as the maiden reborn and practically worshipped her. Her queen mother was full of joy.
Viserra knew that she took the joy of beating Rhaenyra, of being the main threat to her position as heir.
She recalls when the time as her newest nephew was born.
"Princess, your queen mother wished to see you now."
Viserra was curious and confused. 'Now during my lesson?'
She placed her book down and walked with the maid to go see her mother. Looking at the court, they are in no doubt wished to congratulate the princess delivers of an infant.
She was curious as her older half-sister Princess Rhaenyra had just started labor. But she had heard rumors about her half-sister's reputation. Viserra doesn't wish to speak of it because she fears that her mother would get in trouble with Sire.
When she reaches for the room where they would greet Queen Alicent.
"My queen," the maid curtsy as Viserra followed her example.
"Come here, child." Alicent gestured to her with a smile. Viserra obeyed and went to her mother's side.
Viserra waited and remained silent.
a knock on the door was heard. It opened to reveal a maid, who came bearing news.
"My Queen, the Princess's maids have confirmed the babe is expected to be born any moment."
"Well then, have the babe brought to me." Came the Queen's response followed by an icy cold smile appearing on her beautiful face.
"Now?" The maid swallowed nervously. The command she received is still being processed. "But the babe would have probably just been bo—"
"Yes, now!" Alicent cut in sharply, frightening the maid in the process. The maid scurried away to bring the message.
Viserra looked at her mother in confusion. Why? Why must mothers insist that they bring the baby?
Alicent looked down at her child and suggested that she sit down on the chair to wait for the baby. Viserra obeyed and looked at the door as if she was waiting for someone to come soon.
After what seemed like an eternity, the door finally opened, revealing Princess Rhaenyra and her husband Ser Laenor with their newborn.
"Your grace." Rhaenyra greeted, her voice cold, with no emotion within it. All those bitter emotions were expressed through her eyes.
"Rhaenyra! You should be resting after your labor." Alicent gasped. Viserra looked back at her mother.
'But you were the one who ordered that maid to bring in the baby? But not Rhaenyra herself?'
"I have no doubt you'd prefer that, your grace," Rhaenyra answered sarcastically.
"You must sit. Talya fetches a cushion for the princess."
"There's no need." Rhaenyra attempted to put a stop to this false show of kindness. But the Queen insisted, not letting the Princess have it her way.
"Nonsense! You should sit."
Viserra didn't like the quietness, especially with Rhaenyra in their presence. Ser Laenor was always kind to her as he brings her stone jewels and stories that she wished to hear.
She wished to say something but judging by Rhaenyra's facial. She looks like she is not in the mood to be comforted.
The King walked in that very moment loudly declaring his happiness.
"What happy news this morning."
"Indeed, your grace." Ser Leanor's voice matched the King's excitement.
A fine prince… sturdy." The King observed. "Oh, Viserra are you here to see the baby?" He noticed his youngest daughter. Viserra quickly nodded her head happily. The mention of the baby does bring joy to her.
"Does the babe have a name yet?" Alicent finally spoke after staying on the sidelines all these times.
"We haven't—" Rhaenyra began only to be abruptly cut off by her husband.
"Joffrey. He will be called Joffrey."
Alicent watched amused as Rhaenyra threw the man a nasty glare before lighting her match to ignite the fire.
"An unusual name for a Velaryon." Her voice came with a full-blown taunt. Viserra was curious. What's wrong with the name Joffrey? But then again, that sounded like a weird name.
"Where is he? Where is my grandson?"
Viserys cradles his grandchild with such happiness and joy. It made the princess notice something.
In her heart, she felt a bad thing.
Jealousy.
Her Septa always said that jealousy is a sin because they hurt people and turn them into sinners.
She wished to see the baby.
Viserys bend down and gestured Viserra to come closer. "Come now, this is your nephew."
Viserra walked slowly and looked at the baby. Her eyes widened and saw that it was brown-haired and pug-nose. She looked at her mother, but her mother revealed nothing but a gleaming shine in her eyes.
Yes, she knew where the child had figured it out. Jacaerys and Lucerys had brown-haired and pug-nosed as well. With this belief, there is a chance of another succession issue.
Was this the real reason why both grandsire and mother try to prevent it?
She guesses that the world is so black and white. She doesn't know anymore. "Do keep trying Ser Laenor, sooner or later you'll get one that looks like you." She told the Velaryon man in a nauseatingly sweet voice as she handed him the newborn and strode back to her daughter.
Alicent keeps Viserra on her side until they are away.
Why was Sire not see what is right in front of him?
Viserra wonders one thought.
'Love is blind.'
'I have no interest in politics or power struggles.' Viserra believed it. If anyone asked, she would rather be as happy as a common daughter or be a bird so that she can fly away from everything.
But that is a secret that she kept from everyone. Even the queen's mother.
Viserra was walking down the halls since Septa Daisy gave her half-day off since she did fine work in her sewing lessons.
She carries a book to learn more philosophies from a famous scholar centuries ago. Happily skipping her feet, she decided to go where the tree was.
The tree where the face is carved and bleeding eyes.
She read her Valyrian history book.
"My such an interesting book to read princess?" A voice startled her as she looked toward the source.
Larys Strong is the brother of Harwin Strong and his father is Lyonel Strong Hand of the King. They called him, "Clubfoot." Since he was born with a twisted ankle on his feet and used a firefly cane for him to walk.
"I doubt it might be too hard to read for someone as young as you." Larys Strong walked towards her.
Viserra does not like that tone. It sounded like he was mocking her.
"I'll have you know, sir. That I can read faster than most girls my age." She may sound rude, but he started it first.
Larys simply chuckled, "My apologies, princess. It was not my intention to be rude. I am simply comparing you to your siblings."
Viserra heard this before.
Compared to her siblings, she was a dutiful, obedient, and smart princess that does no wrong. There were times when she wished that she could rebel for a bit but knowing her mother she would be disappointed in her.
"It is not a bad thing," Larys came closer to the princess. "That means you have a brighter future ahead of you."
"I do hope that you won't burn away," Larys whispers to her. He smiled and bowed as he was walking away, but Viserra came after him before he could disappear.
She said, "Why are you interested in what I do?"
Larys paused his walk then he spoke, "I'm actually interested in my investment in you princess."
Then he left just like that.
Viserra is confused, but his words do scare her.
Investment?
What kind of investment does he gain from her?
Viserra is frightened.
She will realize those years for now.
She will become the center of the pollical games.
Game of Thrones.
You win. You die. There is no such thing as neutral ground.
Reviews are welcome. What is Lary's Strong planning? Viserra is someone to gain or lose. Whose side she will go?
The Greens?
The Blacks?
Who knows what will happen if she chooses the wrong side and dies in vain?
