Episode 40: Violet Is Free

CHAPTER 1: GETTING BACK ON TRACK

Halfway house owned by Millicent Hightower

Lucy and Violet pulled up to the halfway house Violet would be staying at for the next month. It was the same house Lucy stayed at after she was first paroled. Millicent "Millie" Hightower was sweeping the porch when the two women pulled up to the house. She immediately recognized Lucy when she got out.

"Lucy!" Millie said. "So glad to see you dear!"

"How are you, Millie?" said Lucy. The two women hugged one another.

"And who is this lovely lady that came with you?" asked Millie seeing Violet.

"My friend and your next resident after leaving HCWCF," said Lucy.

"Oh, you must be Violet Gray," said Millie. "How do you know Lucy?"

"Lucy and I have known each other since we were kids, ma'am," said Violet.

"Well, my name is Millicent Hightower, but you can call me Millie," said the elderly woman with a warm smile on her face.

"Nice to meet you, Millie," said Violet, shaking her hand.

"I need to get this car back home," Lucy said. "My boyfriend Derrick needs it to go to work later tonight. It was good to see you, Millie."

"You too, Lucy," said Millie, who gave one more hug.

"Vi, I'll call you later tonight," said Lucy to Violet. "She's a good woman. Just do as she says and you'll be out of here soon."

"Okay, Lucy," said Violet. "Thanks again for the ride, and the burger."

"No problem." And Lucy left for home. Millie turned to Violet.

"I will show you around, dear, and go over the ground rules of being here," Millie began. "Unless you get a job and they keep you late, curfew is at 11 PM sharp. I do extend it to 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. The curfew ends at 5 AM. Between 5 AM and 11 PM Monday through Thursday you are free to come and go as you please, though every girl that stays here are assigned chores. So as long as you do your chores, you can do whatever you want to do, aside from having alcohol in the house. Are there any questions you have, Violet?"

"None at the moment, Millie," Violet replied. And Millie continued to give Violet a tour of the house. She knew she would have to stay there for the time being. But, when she could, she would plan to move out of Sparkyville immediately.

Later that day, Mike Stone, Violet's attorney came to the house to visit. He also had a message to deliver to her about Patty and her wanting to see her after she got out.

"Patty actually wants to talk to me?" asked a bewildered Violet. "After everything that has happened between us?!"

"I think she wants to clear the air, Violet," Mike replied. "Make peace of some sort."

"Well, I never intended to shoot her, my actual target was the Browns."

"She knows that, Violet. She also knows that you've been rehabilitated. I think this is why she wants to see you."

"I don't expect to be friends with her again after what I done. I do want to apologize to her, though. I can't do the same for the Browns unfortunately, due to me being banned from seeing them as part of my probation."

"Well you did do the letter that the courts agreed to. They do know you're sorry."

"I'm glad about that. Can you set something up for us, Mike?"

"I think she wants to meet up somewhere. Is it okay if I give her your cell number?"

"Sure."

"I'll let her know she can reach you here." And after saying their "goodbyes", Mike left, and Violet went back to her room to finish getting things organized.
